hacienda choyob

We spotted the tall chimney of hacienda Choyob off in the distance and decided to investigate. Little remains of the main hacienda. Crumbling and pilaged, only traces of a once large operation can be seen. Most large haciendas included many other buildings a chapel, stores and living spaces for the often hundreds of workers. Interestingly in this case, most of the other buildings remain intact since people have continued to occupy these spaces for hundreds of years. And as most of these outter buildings have people living in them, we chose not to intrude and film. Choyob is indeed an interesting place, where a look into the yucatan's colored history is still possible.
