I was going through a rough time like a A LOT of kids were in their high school years. Loneliness, angst, and being diagnosed with clinical depression. I was an athlete on the basketball team, I would go to school, go to basketball practice/game and come home, rinse and repeat. Once the basketball off season came, I was more free to do what I wanted. My teammates urged me to got to parties and things with them, but I was a loner at heart. I would come home and play single player games. My cousin let me have Fallout 3 a year or two before, I finally decided to play it, I was absolutely thrilled to find out you had such in depth character customization, including name and skills. I fell in love, it was a new world, a real escape, I was fresh in....it got me through my first two years of High School. This soundtrack has flooded back those memories of solitary nights in my room just exploring and RPing, video games for a teenager , in that particular age range who are depressed and lonely, are magical, they send you away, you are young enough to still not be too jaded to play "make believe" to yourself, and old enough to want to get far away from home. Fallout 3, Oblivion, Bioshock, Fallout New Vegas, really let me escape....Never lose your imagination, never lose the ability to "pretend" in a video game, cause when you do, you lose that little spark inside you, that spark can make a lonely time fun and exciting, we all need that spark no matter how old we are.

Paradise lost is amazing soundtrack and it standout form the rest of the soundtrack and it tells the story of fallout as well, notice how the instruments get louder and louder them muffled by a big BOOM of the drums like how civilization was growing and expanding but was destroyed by the bombs. This soundtrack imo is better than the theme if fallout and why I absolutely love fallout 3's ost the music is ambient yet but the use of flutes, bassfluts and pan flute gives it a more esoteric feel to it and it tells a story.

Then in FO4 and 76 they made the mistake of reversing it. The entire world was green and lush like nothing had happened, and there was a small tiny section of the map which looked like it had been hit by nuclear bombs. Big mistake. It was too "candy".

FO4 certainly had a lot of enjoyable aspects to it. There certainly were some improvements from FO3 as you would expect.
I'd like to see FO5 go back to the formula that made the FO3 experience so magical.... the feeling of loneliness and desperation with just that glimmer of hope at the horizon... whilst incorporating the best parts of FO4, such as the parts you mention.
I reckon we'd have an absolute winner of a game.
P.S. Speaking of bases, I didn't mind my old Megaton home. That was pretty good. Before I got that house, I actually set up in the entrance of Vault 106, storing all my stuff in the four lockers there. That was pretty cool and really helped add to that "makeshift" survival at all costs mentality that FO3 fostered so well.

I love FO3! More than NV and especially FO4, partly because of the music but mostly because of the world. FO3 has a more..."natural" feel, I love the gloomy sickly green color of the sky, everything is grey and depressing, the feeling of being lost in those vast wastes is just fantastic. FO4 is somewhat too intact, too colorful and DC felt like a huge ruined city, Boston feels like some small town with a few sky scrapers, the whole world of FO4 feels so cramped and a bit too full, I miss the empty quarters between towns where you could sometimes randomly encounter one single individual with his own little story. I really hope for FO5 they change the style back to FO3 and NV and I hope they will use some more epic music like this and/ or parts of the original FO1 soundtrack like in NV. Exploration and City Of Lost Angels really stuck in my mind but these wouldn't work with the map of FO4.

FO3 had the post apocalyptic vibe down perfectly. New Vegas and FO4 are post post-apocalyptic if that makes sense - you never feel like you're exploring uncharted territory because there's always a town with settled people.

I miss that time,as I feel I'm growing older and all my life is rapidly and drastically changing... Especially the "explore 1" theme, which I almost always recall in my memory whenever I feel loneliness or desolation... My regards to all fellow Fallout Friends!

Fallout 3 got so much hate and I do t understand why? To me Fallout 3 was the best and had the saddest story, you literally leave the Vault losing everyone you ever knew including your best friend Amata, but at least you can have Butch. And you never have a mother because she dies early do to your birth. You have your dad who raises you then leaves you in the vault to nearly die! You’re exiled out into the waste running all sorts of errands to find your father. And after finding him you only have him for a short time before the Enclave comes in and has your father kills him self to try and save everyone at the Jefferson Memorial. Then you ultimately end up dying continuing your mothers dream, but then there’s broken steal.

the writing in new vegas blows it away. i used to live just outside dc is what fallout 3 calls "andale" so i knew the area well and it was cool seeing it, and the world was immersive with little bits of storytelling. but the character writing and decisions just weren't there. blow up megaton or be apocalypse jesus. really not that great.

Fallout 3 is a game I've played through so many times just because it's that good.
The world/setting is pretty much one of if not the most immersive place in a video game, something about the atmosphere of Fallout 3 compared to all the other post apocalyptic games gives a welcoming sense into a world that is absolute hell. And the music... the music is what just sells it all and brings it home.
This music has been ingrained in my memory, even when I'm playing the game and not hearing it I somehow do hear it. It's the perfect ambience to the world of Fallout 3.

Since everyone is sharing their story for this game I thought I will share my own
I got fallout 3 a year after its release, my brother gave me a bunch of random games and fo3 was one of them, but I never got around to playing it until the summer of 2015, I played it that year because there was so much hype around fallout 4 that I guess I was curious what the hype was all about... I didn't know it at the time but what really made me love the game was that loneliness feeling to it, and the OST enhanced that feeling, mixed with the aesthetic and the contrasting, happy music from the radio, fallout3 was something unlike anything ever played... after falling for the hype of f4 and finishing the game I was left disappointed and returned to fallout 3 only to be hit with nostalgia from the original soundtrack, it made me realize that all this time fallout 3 was helping me cope with my own loneliness that summer, while I had friends I would spend most of my high school summers alone, and fallout 3 taught me that there's sometimes beauty in loneliness and its atmosphere, to this day is unmatched
