The slide lock reload is the best method for a magazine change when it comes to operating a pistol for personal defense. While tactical reloads and reloading schemes for shooting sports have their place as well, the armed civilian should practice the slide lock reload firstly and foremostly, as it is the most practical.
Many reloading techniques that are taught are simply wrong or inefficient. Here, we go over the fundamentals of a slide lock reload, starting with getting your pistol into position by rotating it backwards toward you.
You may need to rotate the gun in your hand. Do so by pushing the grip with your fingertips toward the thumb, so your shooting hand thumb can operate the magazine release.
At the same time, the support hand draws a fresh magazine. Your index finger should be straight, and indexed against the front of the magazine. Essentially you guide the magazine into the magazine well of the pistol.
Don't take your eyes off the target until the magazine reaches the magazine well. Look just long enough to get the magazine started into the gun. Get your eyes back on target, and finish pressing the magazine home.
Once it's seated, reposition the gun into a good shooting grip, and actuate the slide release to complete the reload. Represent the pistol to the target, acquire a sight picture and resume firing.
It's not complicated, but takes some time to become efficient at it. Start practicing slow, and build up to reloading at speed. You can incorporate reloading into your dry fire practice as well to get extra reps.
You also want to make sure you have good mag carriers for range use and daily carry. You can find those, and other quality carry gear, at:

Why do so many shooters rack the slide during a reload instead of just dropping it with the release? Do the fear a round going off on the drop?
Not all releases are easy to get to - sometimes this is by design. Training to rack builds muscle memory.
Different shooters do it differently, finding a good way for you is what is important.

It is not a slide release, it is a slide stop.
I can't use most of this, because I have to operate my mag and slide releases with my trigger finger... all the controls are on the wrong side of the gun for me
That sucks, fo John Whick and use both hands.....
Interesting. Training with your EDC is important for this reason since people and guns are all a little different. Hopefully you've found a way for it to work for you! Thank you for commenting and being a subscriber on our channel.
Don’t use this company. You will never actually get your product. Ordered on May 18, 2020. My order still hasn’t left the warehouse.
We are sorry for the long wait because of production times, we know it can be frustrating. Due to recent events, demand has skyrocketed past what anyone predicted at the start of 2020. However, we have hired new staff, invested in new machines, and shifted all available resources to production in an effort to keep up, and are now working 24/7 to fulfill orders. If there's anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to call (208) 215-2046 .

Derek Woodard got mine two weeks after I ordered it and ten days before they initially said it would arrive. I’m sooty that you had a bad experience, but it is in no way indicative of the company.
