I love everything Jason does. Thankfully in his short time he left us with quite a bit of his music.

nice -- it took me a page to say what you said in once sentence.... this music grows on you.... and lots of critics or whatever will say all his songs are the same, with the same theme....perhaps so...he was fighting for his life, he just didn't know it. I gotta find out more about this guy -- he's become a HUGE influence in these short hours....I share silmilaries in his guitar and singing -- but I can't write a single song this good. This is on a whole other level.

It's 2022, and Jason is still earning converts. I just heard him first time last week with Farewell Transmission and was blown away.... Im 63, and a musician, so songwriting is my life. Saw all the "big stuff."' - or that's what they call it. Since hearing this I've been basically binge listening. He is honest and deep -and so so good-- the instrumentation -- I didn't even know if he was the one playing that great steel pedal or guitar.......it just all meshed, this great band.
But he had a disease, alcoholism -- or as his put it, "he was sick," which is totally accurate.- and it killed him, apparently without much notice. Organ failure. So sad. But frankly if you take the mythology about HIM out of it -- this is a man who drank himself to death -- apparently In relative secrecy -- though he can't hide it from his loved ones.
"Jason has the kind of alcoholism that kills people" I read his brother say in an interview.
I'm recovering from alcoholism for 30 years, once it gets you it's a downhill slide.....but alcohol is not my drug of choice -- stuff that kills you quicker is - but it's all the same thing... Alcohol is just as dangerous asan illegal drug.IMO-- and coming off it cold turkey will kill you - though I"m unclear about the details of his death.
But this guy was something.else......THANK YOU YOUTIUBE.... He didn't seem to care about fame and all that nonsense..He lived a seemingly simple life and made brilliant music and died all but unknown. There's got to be more there -- Plus he's a character on film -- funny, chameleon-like, makes strange faces when he smiles..... His story really deserves a full blown Netflix doc or something .that wins some film festival and finally gives him his legacy.....Why not a 20 year reissue or the Farewell Transmission record -- see? I don't even know the name of record -- he changed it all the time -- And it would revive his "dead" career -- for somebody. Whatever.. I'm a journalist -- so that's been done on him -- But doc ilmmakers out there: ARE YOYU LISTENING? I only know about good music and this is it. Pitch it to Netflix or something similar -- the "suits" will eat it up cause they are at an age when this stuff starts to weight on them. JMHO THANKS! RIP Jason Molina

that take of steve albini's blues is some of the best work i've ever heard jason perform. otherworldly and yet so distinctly midwest. thank you so much for uploading this.

If Gordon Downie and Townes Van Zandt had a brother, it would be Jason Molina. sharp as a straight razor, deep and a little dark ( a little??). Don't fade on me and stay simple.

2022. just learned of Jason Molina at 63 a few weeks ago....by chance heard Transmission and was transfixed. -- this music is not for everyone, especially ones with short attention spans and the inability to go deep. but these are such deceptively simple songs.....most have no chorus....and he sings about same themes...but I've found big difference in many of them....He's not just doing a version of himself -- I know he quit touring before his death....this is just so sad....."Before the dark finally get a hold of me...'Hold on." He deserves one of those fantastic music docs that steam all over the place now, Netflix -- there's enough footage -- Filmakers -- are you listening? There's so much filmed stuff. It's a story waiting to be told. But I'm a journalist so I think that about a lot of thing.
HIs father said that at an early age he was intruded to "Lots of Classical Music -- and Neil Young"
Neil Young fake singers are awful -- so transparent.
This is Jason Molina, not Neil Young --it sounds like Jason. influenced by Neil? Sure! Who wasn't?
Some folks --NOT ME!! ! would dismiss this as self pity. or depressing 3 chord repetition. .. - but it's got great beauty and tenderness and grace -- and that takes a special ARITST to bring that out of such misery he sings of..... it's is SO real.....I could listen to this guy forever I"m a recovering alcoholic of 20 years.....But he's even got me fooled - I'm kinda joking here, but ---with all the solid touring, well-recorded and excellent records -- so many songs he wrote.....When, I ask, did he have time for ALL THE DRINKING that killed him? You can perform drunk but I don't recommend. it. Most of it takes places AFTER the show. and on the road. I'm a recovering alcoholic myself, so perhaps I'm looking at it from a different level -- but I just don't understand how he could have kept it up for so long. at excellence. ....I noticed his last shows slipping a bit -- but for christ sake, it's only rock and roll.! This guy is not only rock and roll. He's much more.

ive' just discovered this guy -- lucky me -- but I'm confused as to what happened to the other band member who died in mid-2000s. What happened to him? The thing is, he doesn't appear to be an alcoholic, or it hasn't caught up with him yet. It takes a while. He doesn't slur, stumble or make stupid remarks. Never noticed drunk on stage-- and how could he have written all these songs when he was offstage and WAS drinking.....whatever... But apparently his band tried to help him. With an many people who knew him, I can't believe they didn't try to get his alcoholism treated. but it's a disease -- a Fatal one for some -- and he lost the battle. I did notice in listening to his last live shows, he was off his game -- forgetting words, changing songs in mid song.....But it was near end. and in all interviews I never noticed him drinking or having that kind of problem. But it's a hidden one -- I'm recovering from alcoholism for 30 years, and I can only imagine how hard he fought.....RIP, tender, great man and artist --GREAT ending to farewell transmission. Wish that record was filmed at Abini's too -- I think it's his best... but that' s just me - and I just took my first DEEP DIVE == any suggestion or advice on where to go next to understand this complex man?
