Don't forget they had a playoff record of 16-10 the most playoff games by a championship team which means they lost a plenty of games in playoffs. They should had swept the 1st round and 2nd round team because they had a high expectation of a 66 win team. Their expected playoff record should at least 16-6 to be recognized as one of the best team of all time. If I will choose between 2008-09 Lakers and 2007-08 Celtics I choose the Lakers despite winning 1 leas regular season of 65-17 but their playoff record is much better 16-7 > 16-10. In other words this Celtics squad underperform as champion in the playoffs.

Did KG forget that his team only made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2012 was because of injuries to other teams? There is no way you would've gone that far had Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah been healthy. Don't forget that Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Dirk Nowitzki ran you out of the Western Conference. It's also a bad look that you needed all 14 games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals in your 2008 championship run. I'm not a fan of LeBron James, but KG needs to look in the mirror. 2004 Detroit Pistons > 2008 Boston Celtics.

I feel that the Big 3 Era of the Celtics had huge potential to maybe even 3-peat. Kevin Garnett getting injured in 09 really hurt the squad, and Perkins getting hurt and then getting traded a couple seasons later hurt the team as well. The Big 3 when assembled was made to be a win now team seeing as Paul Pierce, KG, and Ray Allen were 31, 32, and 33 respectively. They did exactly what they were supposed to do, win now. I know that us Celtics fans love to hold on to 08, but it was the last championship the franchise won.

theres a reason kg broke down in 09.....they were older..things didn't align and injuries man.....posey leon pj sam and house left as allen rondo perk glen got better they traded perk who helped okc for an injured jeff green...like it was a lot of randomness between 2007-2013..perk got hurt in 2010 vs the lakers..rondo got hurt in 2011 vs miami same as shaq..it just was a lot of well maybe could of beens sorta possibly..the reality was kg perk rondo shaq jeff were hurt...they got posey and p.j. out of luck...things went their way in 08 with daniel gibson getting hurt and ariza and bynum for la ….sports titles aren't always as simple as they sound..things go your way to win ..ask the 2003 2005 and 2007 spurs who had things go right for them injury and suspension wise and ask the 2004 and 2006 spurs who had all the bad luck go against them ..they could of won 1 ring 5 0 2 4 but they got 3 in 5 years..cause sports aren't predictable...theres no reason to pound your chest or say your got robbed....just humbly say we got out chip...cause without that kg is not a top 25 player...not even top 30 for most real talk..that changed his legacy

Had injuries to KG not happened in 09 remember that 09 team won I believe 19 in a row and if perkins doesnt get hurt in the 2010 finals game 6 I believe the Celtics win game 7 because what really cost them the game was rebounding and that’s perkins big strength along with defense or even had lebron not left for Miami I believe they would’ve been a dynasty. Rondo getting hurt in 2013 definitely hurt their chances of going farther in the postseason I don’t believe they would’ve made to the finals but i think they could’ve at least won one round of the postseason.

People forgot how good Bynum was before his 2012 knee injury. Ray Allen was on the 2012 team that lost to Miami in the ECF. The only reason that series went to 7 games is because Bosh (when he did play) played hurt the entire series.

Look, I’m a Celtics fan and I think they we a bit overrated, but, they were still SCARY.
None of you are diehard Celtics fans and know nothing about their history. After Larry Bird retired we suffered horribly. Len Bias the next superstar died of a cocaine overdose. 6 years later the Celtics next great Reggie Lewis died in front of us on the court. We got Pierce who never wavered and stuck with the team and when we got KG and Allen we won the championship and became title contenders. That’s all real fans could ask for.
I just have one nitpick here: Ben Wallace was an all-star in 2004. I think you meant the Pistons won without a superstar.

KG is vastly overrated. People keep saying he never had help and all that, but he did have Cassell and Sprewell one year and still could only manage one more win than Tim Duncan back when he was the only star on the Spurs. Parker and Manu were nobodies at the time. Every time he faced Duncan or Dirk in the playoffs, he never won his matchup. His numbers were highly inflated as is par for the course of being on a shit team, but there were moments in the playoffs especially where he was a little bitch. I specifically remember that Wolves vs Lakers conference finals and KG wanted no part of Shaq or Kobe. He hung out just far enough from the action to not get embarrassed but also pretend he was playing defense.

Detroit Pistons team that went to back to back finals. Not only had a better basketball run than those later Celtics team. They were more dominant and better and even though they lost to the Spurs in seven games which is still an impressive loss unlike the Celtics who choked down the stretch in there game 7 against the Lakers. I think beating Shaq and Kobe regardless of how old their role players were is more impressive than the Celts beating a midseason Gasol and Kobe team.

Exactly. The Celtics were a slightly better team. At that point the Celtics weren't healthy. A fully healthy Celtics team was better than a fully healthy Lakers team. Both were great teams. If the celtics were healthy from 08-10, they could have 3-peated.

I doubt it, because with Perkins out Garnett essentially played the 5 and protected the paint and they had Sheed playing the 4. Sheed was old by then but he was an excellent defender in his prime and he brought it that game, and he was obviously miles ahead of Perk on offense. I know it was a different era and the game wasn't played with the same emphasis on offensive efficiency as it is now, but if those finals were played today, Perkins probably doesn't even see the floor even if he was healthy because he was such a useless offensive player.
