Great stuff! I’m not sure if you have a video addressing this but should the samples you pull for the pre-boil and post boil gravity for non-hazy styles be generally clear? We brewed a NZ Pils yesterday and both samples pre-boil and post boil were pretty cloudy. Especially the post boil. We did add a lot of hops during the boil and whirlpool keep in mind and unfortunately didn’t have any kettle finings on hand to use. Wondering if these should have a decent amount of clarity, what effects it could have on the beer down line and general ways to fix that issue.
Are there any downsides to going under 1.5 qts / lb? What ratios on the thick side do you start to run into trouble? I'm planning a %13.5 barleywine and trying to avoid doing a double (reiterated? I've only been doing this hobby a year) mash on my digiboil. I only got 9.25 gallons of volume to play with on a 5 gallon batch. I was thinking if I only mashed with 4 gallons, I might have room for my 20lbs of grain, and just add more sparge water.

Yeah I have gone down to 1qt/lb for really big beers then just did first runnings beers. Great way to do it.

@@adammakesbeer is BeerSmith something you have to buy or is it like Bru'n water and is without subscription etc?
