Well if we’re talking about theoretical timelines, everything goes. There’s a timeline where they got three new Dexter shows. I’m a party pooper, I know.
They actually listened to the fan base who were rightly annoyed at how they ended Dexter. Not even having Batista get to be in he same room as him when they building up to that climax. It's good that they realise the fans want more and if it's going to end they want it to end great. Perhaps Batista should hunt him down and be the one that shoots him.
Me too I’m honestly am surprised and it definitely exceeded my expectations but to be honest I had low expectations but it is nice to see that the show has some really good effort put into it only thing I’m kinda hating is the gen z acting idk how else to describe but it’s like you can tell they’re acting and it seems a bit forced/extra
I didnt thought i would get so nostalgic and emotional over there first episode 15minutes of the original sin. Love what you doing, would have loved it even more if we had the original Herry Morgan. Looking forward for the next episode.
I loved it. And I love having this space for “water cooler” discussions. Part of what made DO so good was the workplace interactions & awkwardness. They took the bad taste in my mouth of season 8 & New Blood out of my mouth. Both had great moments: Kurt was a great big bad, but they could have ended it at the next to last episode. As I said above: Scott Buck belongs on Dexter’s table. They did a great job of recasting the ensemble: especially Harry. Batista & Matsuka ihihihihihihi
In terms of New Blood, I loved it. Kurt was soooo good. But ultimately, I think they rushed the finale. Maybe if they had an extra 2 episodes to work with, they could have written the ending a bit better.
Yes!! Finally it`s here! I`ve been so excited for this to start ,and of course and psyched for Resurrection next year!! Thanks for a great interview and a second look.#Dexter #Originalsin♥
I'm probably the only one here who knows who Stryper was lol. I saw them when I was 16 in a small club in CT. I'm 52 now so yeah, totally got that reference!! Great job on Original Sin! Loving it so far!
When i saw the first preview for this my first thought was, yes, this will work. This is what we need. Overall a great start to original storyline. Most definately a fan of all of these people.
Inventing a kid who drowned makes no sense anymore than Harry, in the original Dexter, leaving Brian at the crime scene and only grabbing Dexter. Brian was Laura Moser's son too and a small child who Harry could have worked with the way he did Dexter and the Ice Truck Killer wouldn't have nearly murdered Harry's daughter because Brian and Debra would have been brother and sister the same way Dexter and Debra were, not to mention the score of innocent victims Harry could have saved from Brian. If they're going to rewrite Harry's motives for saving Dexter by inventing a dead son, Harry's motives were very clear. He caused Laura Moser's death and felt the need to rescue her son but again, why leave Brian there? That's a weak storyline they need to deal with.
I thought the first episode was good and rated it 8 out of 10. And this is coming from someone who despised the sequel. Having said that, I wanted them to show a few more scenes of an uninhibited Dexter during his pre-teen years (age 7 to 10) doing bad things without Harry finding out.
I loved it. I haven't seen anyone mention that they retconned the nurse story. In the original series, she wasn't poisoning her patients, she was overdosing them on morphine or something similar. In the original series, Harry even says "she gives too much." I think I understand why they changed it. In the OG show, Harry basically had to tell Dexter what was going on. In the new show, Dexter figures it out on his own and conducts an investigation. None of that happened in Dexter. In the original show, Harry told him what she was doing and Dexter started planning her murder In Original Sin, he has a lot more agency and he's the one who brings it to Harry's attention. I'm just surprised that no one else has mentioned it in any of the reviews or comments I've read. It was really obvious to me that it had been retconned. I hope someone asks one of these producers about it, because I'd like to know if my suppositions are correct about why they retconned
I noticed that change and commented on it. I didn't like the change at all. This prequel is supposed to be about Dexter fumbling around while he learns his craft. Having him, instead of Harry, figure out the nurse's murderousness undercuts that premise. It also takes away Harry's agency in training Dexter.
@denisesudell2538 in the past day, I've heard some interesting arguments about this. According to one of the producers, the flashbacks we saw in the original Dexter are Dexter's fuzzy, unreliable stories of his younger days. This new show is intended to seem somewhat contradictory in the sense that these are Dexter's real memories of what actually happened and not his self-serving retelling of what happened. In Dexter's narrative of the nurse Mary story in the original series, he kind of puts it on Harry. But in these flashbacks in the new series, we see that Dexter was a lot more proactive about wanting to kill than we realized. Original Sin shows us that Dexter's earlier efforts to put it on Harry were a way of shifting blame, and the scenes we're seeing now are much closer to the truth. I'm not sure if I'm 100% on board with it, but I think I understand what they're going for. As the producer in this interview pointed out, the current scenes make Dexter look like a master manipulator, while our earlier flashbacks from the original Dexter series show us that Dexter didn't recognize or acknowledge his own manipulative tactics.
Im hoping they do a flash forward with dexter waking up with Angela and angel sitting next to his bed, and then he starts flat lining, and then it goes back to the original sin. They could even have dexter get hurt or knocked out in original sin.
I thought that Dexter: OS was gonna be present tense (sort of) which is why I didn’t like the idea of Michael c hall narrating when you have a different actor as Dexter. But I like that it’s Dexter looking back on his life and telling us about his early days
Re-watch the moment Harrison endorses the kill of the nurse. The pauses... are too long. I predict that's a hint that Dexter was performing some selective hearing. "Whatever you do, Dexter, don't kill her." and all Dex hears is ".... kill her."
Good episode in general but a lot of inconsistencies with the dialoge of the nurse victim (including the kill) compared to the flashbacks of the same villian in 1x03 of the original show. I was very dissapointed that the producers didn´t remember or just simply rebooted the scene. The tone and Dexter and Harry motivations just changed imo.
Just gonna say it, I hated Jamie Chung’s character. I thought she was so vulgar when she talked about serial killers and specifically Harrison, calling him a “fucked up kid”. At least the true crime podcasts I’ve listened to were nothing but respectful and mournful for the victims.
So this man is the reason Debra fell in love with her brother, died, and took the show with her? FUCK. Dexter is too smiley & happy in the trailers. Jamie said it herself that American Psycho was “the only thing that could make him smile”, but I’ve seen Dexter smile in every clip so far. I hope the writers know what they’re doing. Jamie is an actual fan of the show, before this man ruined it, and this man is just a horror fan, in his OWN WORDS, he has no “write” (PUN VERY MUCH INTENDED) to touch this show, not even with plastic wrap, duct tape, rubber gloves, a smock, cargo pants and a henley tee. Christian Slater & Michael C Hall will be amazing but unfortunately the man who plays Dexter will forever be remembered as being the wrong Dexter. BUT THIS IS THE MAN WE NEED TO BE MAD AT. Scott Reynolds. Better not be related to Ryan.
@Vamatt99218 I'm Asian. We know abt status seeking/gold digger types like her with a career history of playing the sexualized Asian woman that belittles Asian men. Invariably their dating history is also really selective towards white men. Hey preferences are preferences, but when your career is built off roles that attack your own culture (not Dexter), and you are the only racial group that prefers other races over your own, there's a crazy self-hate problem that women wish that they were another race.
@Vamatt99218 I'll try to summarise without flagging anything this time. I'm Asian and she's one of a particular type that many people of all races but all Asians know. The status-seeking Asian girl with a history of roles in both her career and dating history that shits on Asian men for the racist scripts in order to get ahead in Hollywood. I can't type it all again but one major one was she played this racist script where she was forced by muh Asian patriarchy to marry a guy, and she forced herself with disgust to sleep with an Asian guy and all while she was fantasizing bout a white guy. Racist shit like that. Mindy Kaling is another example of that. When you're Asian, we are super familiar with these sort of women, their histories always reflect the racist scripts they accept, it's like Jodies to military men.
I cant believe we live in a timeline that gives us two new Dexter shows back to back. What a time to be a Dexter fan. Thank you all so so much!
Well if we’re talking about theoretical timelines, everything goes. There’s a timeline where they got three new Dexter shows. I’m a party pooper, I know.

First episode was really good! Well done everyone. So glad that Dex is back!
Hearing that Michael entered his precinct after all these years brought a chill to me.

First episode was actually good 😊
Thanks for this! I just can't get enough of all the Dexter deep diving so I love videos like this. So awesome!!
OK the fact that they got you BACK to host this is AWESOME!

@elementSe34 or she could be in his head like Deb and Harry.
Fantastic first episode. Great interview can’t wait for more!

It would be cool for Brian to appear too. Though, he probably started to watch him much later when he was older and more skilled.
Inventing a kid who drowned makes no sense anymore than Harry, in the original Dexter, leaving Brian at the crime scene and only grabbing Dexter.
