I like Yeti the most, followed by Swarm and Mammoth. Its also kinda funny that Black Diamonds is one the options because I live in a town in Washington state called Black Diamond.
Bees are more than the state insect, the nickname of the state is the Beehive state. It’s a mindset. At its core, when it is best, Utah is about community and about working hard in an effort to bring about united success. Utah is, naturally, a shit environment. Low water, hard to grow anything, sandy barren soil, and yet by working as a community early settlers made a living in a hard environment. As a native Utahn, I love the bee and beehive imagery as a cultural symbol of Utah’s history and hopefully the future.
As a NorCal transplant in SLC, I have no legitimate dog in the fight, but I have embraced the awesome culture here and things like Swarm, Hive, Mountaineer, Squall, etc. do have local significance. The ultimate team name isn’t for Californians, New Yorkers, or Canadians. It’s for Utahns. That said, I did vote, but I voted for things that I think Utahns are proud of: The mountains, the Beehive State, and skiing the best snow on earth. So…Mountaineers, Swarm, Hive, Black Diamonds.

I don't know it if it's my accent but Utah Squall is hard to say. I wonder if when they say "geo-location" they mean they're going to filter out votes from outside Utah.
Here's one nobody is thinking of: "The Utah Buzz". Why the Buzz? 1) Utah is the Beehive State; 2) It correlates with the NBA Utah Jazz which will occupy the same building (four letter team name with "zz" at the end of it; 3) It's a lot less complicate that a lot of the other 20 names which frankly don't make much sense. To me it's easy and flows much better than any of the other names on this list.

I don't necessarily like the Yeti, and am okay with it, but I think you are right that when the bracket is finished that Utah Hockey fans, and non-Hockey fans who help to choose the name, will pick Yeti and the Utah team will be the Utah Yeti. Mammoth, Yeti are my top picks. I’m good with Venom or Swarm as well. If we do Swarm, let’s get creative and not use yellow and black, we don’t need more of that in the NHL or Utah. I think Black Diamonds in concept is a cool idea, but I think we should stay away from Black Diamonds or worse Powder. I get we have som great snow for some awesome skiing and snowboarding - but let’s not name our team referencing another winter sport.
A couple things. I would stay away from names that could have a negative or blow-back effect especially if the team isn't doing well. Like Mammoth; 'And the Mammoth are still extinct' or 'And once again Utah takes a Powder'. OK, taking a powder is from the 1920s but it isn't a good thing. I'd say choose something that is aggressive, maybe dangerous, not passive like Canyon or Glaciers. As I said below, even as a Coyotes fan was less a fan of the name. Coyotes as an animal are more a scavenger than a top level predator (Hey, Nashville Predators...). As for their first year sweater. If I were a Salt Lake hockey fan, I would love, love to have a first year replica. Has any other team ever just been the city or state name? Talk about the collectors value, or to show that you've been a fan from day one. I'd also say that even after choosing permanent name/colors, this should be kept for marketing or maybe even their third sweater.

Here's what to expect: If you dont have a team name, the fans and local media will end up calling them the Utah Jazz since the NBA's Jazz are the only show in town for +40yrs. This is how the football Giants got their name too. They too shared the same Polo Grounds with the baseball Giants. Also happened in the AAFC with the Yankees & Dodgers, Pirates were the only show in town in Pittsburgh too, so when the NHL got there the firstr time around, that hockey team was called the Pittsburgh Pirates. So Utah will likely do the same thing. Besides, there will be no lawsuit since those owners also own the NBA's Jazz. It works!
I like the Swarm, and nickname the arena “The Hive”. I also think powder blue with black argyle pattern for the “Black Diamonds” would be awesome. I was hoping for the Owls or the Cutthroats, but no love…

Just call the Utah hockey team the Utah Jazz because if the Utah Jazz can work in the NBA then it can work in the NHL as well. I never understood why cities with two teams in two different sports has to use different names?
Swarm is definitely a fit since its the beehive state and they can do a mascot of a angry Bee 🐝 . The Delta Center is nicknamed (The Hive) and the players along with there fans is like a angry army of Swarm bees 🐝 ready to defend.

From a Coyotes fan (attended first home game, both home playoff games😁, multi-year season ticket holder...) I think that as a young team they should be called the Utah Yutes. Like from My Cousin Vinny. Judge Haller: Ah, the two what? Uh... uh, what was that word? Vinny: Uh... what word? Judge Haller: Two what? Vinny : What? Judge: Haller: Uh... did you say "yutes"? Vinny: Yeah, two yutes. Judge Haller: What is a yute? Vinny: Oh, excuse me, your honor... Two "youths" Not only are they mostly young players, Yutes is only one letter off from what they were often called here. The Yotes. Kidding aside, take your time and choose a good name/logo/color combination. We weren't thrilled about "Coyotes" but loved the original colors and logos. Anyway, be good to this team, cause win or lose they are good guys. They will be missed.
If there are any caribou in Utah, they are at the Hogle Zoo. Could be a good name if there's ever a team in Alaska, but it doesn't make any sense for Utah. Of course, there aren't any Yetis in Utah, either. But then, I doubt that there are any Yetis anywhere else, either. So that one doesn't bother me, even though the legendary home of the creature is in the Himalayas, not the Rockies. Outlaws works - I've seen some wondering what that has to do with Utah, but in fact many of the famous western outlaws like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid had strong Utah ties and probably many more operated at least occasionally in Utah. I hadn't seen Swarm suggested before. I like it, but I'm going to have to think about it for a while before voting for it. I'm a little surprised by all of the discussion over Utah Hockey Club as a permanent name, I always saw its inclusion in the trademarked names as a hedge against the probability that the final name wouldn't be chosen in time for this season. (Same with Utah HC.)

Swarm fan here. I like Venom and Mammoth too. I don't get the Yeti tie-in to the area.
Here's what to expect: If you dont have a team name, the fans and local media will end up calling them the Utah Jazz since the NBA's Jazz are the only show in town for +40yrs. This is how the football Giants got their name too. They too shared the same Polo Grounds with the baseball Giants. Also happened in the AAFC with the Yankees & Dodgers, Pirates were the only show in town in Pittsburgh too, so when the NHL got there the firstr time around, that hockey team was called the Pittsburgh Pirates. So Utah will likely do the same thing. Besides, there will be no lawsuit since those owners also own the NBA's Jazz. It works!

I like the Swarm, and nickname the arena “The Hive”. I also think powder blue with black argyle pattern for the “Black Diamonds” would be awesome. I was hoping for the Owls or the Cutthroats, but no love…
There is a baseball team in Michigan called Westside wooly mammoths and it's pretty good logo wise.
Mammoth Swarm or Outlaws, i could live with Yeti as well. I like the word squall . would be a cool name, but yeah how would you do logo and such? good points.
The same way the Avalanche or Hurricanes do theirs. Like there is a way to make Squall a logo. I just don't like personally.

Utah Sting (or Stingers) with fans being the Swarm and the arena being the Hive. Menacing, but at the same time bees are hardworking, down-to-earth. Love the theme.

Just call the Utah hockey team the Utah Jazz because if the Utah Jazz can work in the NBA then it can work in the NHL as well. I never understood why cities with two teams in two different sports has to use different names?
Swarm is definitely a fit since its the beehive state and they can do a mascot of a angry Bee 🐝 . The Delta Center is nicknamed (The Hive) and the players along with there fans is like a angry army of Swarm bees 🐝 ready to defend.

Swarm i think is the best by far the he other ones conflict with some of the denver branding with the mammoth being the lacrosse team here
From a Coyotes fan (attended first home game, both home playoff games😁, multi-year season ticket holder...) I think that as a young team they should be called the Utah Yutes. Like from My Cousin Vinny.

Not only are they mostly young players, Yutes is only one letter off from what they were often called here. The Yotes.
Kidding aside, take your time and choose a good name/logo/color combination. We weren't thrilled about "Coyotes" but loved the original colors and logos.
Anyway, be good to this team, cause win or lose they are good guys. They will be missed.

If there are any caribou in Utah, they are at the Hogle Zoo. Could be a good name if there's ever a team in Alaska, but it doesn't make any sense for Utah. Of course, there aren't any Yetis in Utah, either. But then, I doubt that there are any Yetis anywhere else, either. So that one doesn't bother me, even though the legendary home of the creature is in the Himalayas, not the Rockies. Outlaws works - I've seen some wondering what that has to do with Utah, but in fact many of the famous western outlaws like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid had strong Utah ties and probably many more operated at least occasionally in Utah. I hadn't seen Swarm suggested before. I like it, but I'm going to have to think about it for a while before voting for it. I'm a little surprised by all of the discussion over Utah Hockey Club as a permanent name, I always saw its inclusion in the trademarked names as a hedge against the probability that the final name wouldn't be chosen in time for this season. (Same with Utah HC.)
