- In this beginner Meshtastic tutorial, I'll show you everything you need to know to purchase, assemble, and configure a simple Lilygo T-Beam Meshtastic LoRa radio so you can create your own off-grid, encrypted communications network. This video is aimed at beginners (like myself) who just want to get started quickly without getting too overwhelmed with all the options.
Below is the full parts list. I did not install a screen on my device, but you can if you want to and know how to solder. This basic T-Beam is a perfect stationary node if you can supply it with USB power, or a portable radio you can run on an 18650 battery and pair with your phone.

Dang.. this was perfect.. thank you for providing this video. I had a T-beam sitting around for a few months and wanted to try it, and your video was great. Thank you!
Found you through TechAirSpace channels T-Deck video. How have I not heard about Meshtastic before. Our local HAM circles need to modernize lol. Nice to see "new" HAM stuff pop up!
Yeah I’m pretty excited about diving in and learning all about it. Totally noob here.
Lovely, really professional looking video! Those case designs by TonyG are amazing designs and free :) You really helped me along the way. For those on the hard use side Tbeam with separate pigtail (Ipex to SMA) connector is better option in case of dropping and impact transfer to board.
The GPS antenna has an LNA inside. I wouldn't stick right next to the battery. The metal can block GPS signals from the antenna.
One of my nodes is always on in the basement. (Connected to outdoor antenna). No GPS signal in the basement. I turned off the GPS receiver and entered fixed Lat and Long.
Check your cable if it's not showing up in your device manager. just burned about 2 hours trying to figure that one out.
great video!
Thanks. I’m building a tbeam supreme too
The 433mhz is ok in NA. And if you have a ham ticket you can run 10W I think it is.
great video! but no test?
Great video Matt!
Also, is there any reason why you went with T-Beam instead of Lilygo T-Echo?
The T-Echo was $65 vs the T-Beam which was $38. I bought two, so saved $50. T-Echo looks sweet though, and is ready to go out of the box. I’ll probably grab one when stock opens up
im having trouble getting a gps lock on my lilygo t beam it says "no sats" then when i go to the second screen it say " no GPS lock" im running 2.3.9 Alpha i tried 2.3.4 beta and i had the same problem
Mesh tastic needs to be eltor or so send and receive voice messages if. Not? Why would I buy it text messaging this fine but a lot of times?
What's messages also need to be included? It can't whyand why would I buy it if it only can do one and left the other?
The flip-over antenna that comes with T-beams are worthless on the 915 MHz band. The SWR is very high.
There’s a lot I need to learn. Totally new to this stuff.
@@mattreviewsitIIRC they shipped a lot of T beams with 433 ants. OOPS....
I am trying to factory reset my T-beam because I turned on Wi-Fi but it did not work but now when I flash the radio, it wants to reconnect to Wi-Fi and it just repeating it. The radio won't work now because it does not connect to bluetooth.
I tried press down the reset button and usb connect and flash download and then release button but it still does the same thing.
Is there another website that will delete and factory reset the T-Beam.
If you have a computer you could try connecting via serial/USB by going to client.meshtastic.org/. From there you can reenable Bluetooth
@@mattreviewsit Thank you. I had to Factory reset from that website than reFlashed software. I was able to find radio on bluetooth.
Mesh tastic cannot send voice messages or receive voice messages.
Why?
If it's built for real true off grid like you say.
It should be able to receive voice and text messages.
Both are essential.
It can only receive one why would I buy it?
you kinda miss the point... its not a LTE replacement
TBeams need to be upgraded to USBC.
The tbeam supreme has USB C. I’ve got a video coming out soon on that one
@@mattreviewsit Wow, these are hard to find. I just grabbed one from Aliexpress. It was out of stock from most sellers
First! 😆😅 What do I win??
