- Labour is “taking everyone for fools” with its economic analysis, Jeremy Hunt has said.
The Chancellor insisted the Government had reversed the UK’s economic woes as he gave a speech in Westminster, saying: “Working with the Bank of England, we have delivered the soft landing many thought impossible.
“To point out, as the Labour Party do, that living standards have fallen this Parliament without mentioning the pandemic or the energy crisis is taking everyone for fools.
“In fact, a Conservative government protected living standards with an unprecedented £3,200 in cost-of-living support for the average family, and as a result in the last year living standards grew by 1.3% despite the OBR predicted they would fall by more than double that amount.”

I would happily pay more tax if we the general public get value for money spent on public services and the infrastructure-- in spite of drivers spending huge amounts on car taxes our roads are falling apart
Hunt needs to read the room. You can't be telling people there is no money to reduce NHS waiting lists, or even see a GP in a timely manner. no money for councils to fix the potholes, no money for upgrading hospitals and schools as they disintegrate because they are far older than their replacement life span should have been.... but there is money for tax cuts which will disproportionately benefit the most comfortable in society.
Is this really a winning strategy? Although between this and culture wars - it's all the Tories seem to have, which I suppose makes sense when you've spent 14 years putting the UK in a worse position than it was when you came into power.
Also telling people to stop living a life of luxury on 12k a year benefits, but also saying that 100k isn't enough to live on...

I have read economic articles about our so called growing economy and most don’t agree that the picture is as bright as Hunt claims. I for one, have just had another email from the Trussell Trust today asking for a donation, so I am hardly likely to believe much this man says. Apart from that I remember him coming to my hospital on a visit when he was Health Secretary and the managers were finding it very hard to find anyone who would agree to meet him and be civil.
