2:12 oh shit! That’s the train tracks going up riverdale st and memorial bridge in west springfield where the memorial bridge near Donuts, bobs furniture and savers. cool! I wonder what year they made the bridge stone and metal, cause this map was definitely in the western days
WOW! I did not know this bridge was ever covered! I’m amazed! I live here now, but I’ve not been born here. This is the first I’ve heard of this! Thank you! I love old maps, etc.! Also, thanks for making it downloadable! Great idea! 🙏🏼🙌🏼
#29 on the map is (Everett Hosmer) Barney & (John) Berry Company He had made his fortune in fire arms, clamp-on ice skates that sold all over the world! He worked on them for about 10 years before perfecting them & also made clamp-on roller skates! He made sails for sail boats, a device to help get people out of the ice who had fallen through in Winter! He was quite the inventor! He’s the one who left Forest Park...his & some others who were wealthy, donated land to create it! It was, supposedly, his son, George’s dying wish! Wonderful of them to think of others at such a time! The Barney’s mauseleom reads, “To Live In Hearts We Leave Behind Is Not To Die.”
@davidfrison4372 We had hot air balloons. We still do, out of Northampton Airport. When I lived in South Hadley, one landed in one of the culdesacs where I lived! It must’ve been either 2004 or 2005, I drove to where it landed so my mother could see it! It was a sight to see coming down so close! Pretty colors! The man inside, gave his champagne to the condo owners closest to his landing. It was a tiny basket! I don’t know if even 2 people could fit in it! Then the small truck driver came out & packed up the the balloon & basket & gave the guy a ride in a manner of minutes! Fun to see! - Cynthia
Oh, sir, is Laurel Hill on there?? It might show where his mansion was! (Sadly, it was raized in the 1950’s to make way for Interstate 91.) That was donated to become a park for the public after the owner, Mr. Everett H. Barney’s son, George, passed away in his early to mid 20’s! It is said to be his dying wish in the Online Archives about what is now called Forest Park!
I did not know that! Makes sense with the name! I wonder if City Hall could tell you?! There are some First Nation tribes on the Cape, Mashpee, I think. They have a channel on here. They’d most likely know. If I still had my car, I’d check them out & ask them bunches of things!

This was back when our city was actually producing anything useful. We had the Springfield Armory. That was a big thing.
How were they able to make this map ... because I know they didn't have Google Earth back then...it must have been done with good software

I'd heard the Boston rd. was once an Indian trail to maybe Boston area. Can anyone confirm this?
