Hans Fryba (German: Hans Fryba; April 24, 1899, Reisenberg, Lower Austria - January 3, 1986[2], Gramatneusiedl, Lower Austria) was an Austrian double bassist and composer.
He graduated from the Vienna Academy of Music (1922) under Eduard Madensky. For three years he worked with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, then in 1925-1929 he was the first double bass of the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra and a professor at the Athens Conservatory. In 1929-1968, he was the first double bass of the Orchestra of Romanesque Switzerland and a teacher at the Geneva Conservatory. Upon retirement, he returned to his native land.
He wrote a number of works that were included in the basic repertoire for double bass [source not specified 4476 days], first of all, "Suite in the olden style" for double bass solo (1954).
His students include musicians such as Klaus Trumpf.
