I'll don't find any banjo bluegrass teatcher here in Belgium. But I'll found you! Thanks! I'm started right now with banjo playing, wish me luck! Sorry for bad English writing..I hope you understand it.
Hi Ben, a friend recommended your channel for learning banjo. My 13 year old daughter loves your videos! We are having trouble figuring out what progression to watch your banjo videos for a lessons progression. She is a beginner, but has done some other RUclips clawhammer lessons. Thanks!
Ha, found some finger picks in my guitar drawer that I had purchased Years ago and tried to use and gave up. Then I'm buying some for my beginner banjo (Jameson replaced tuners, tailpiece, bridge) I then learned why they never worked for me.......upside down...Dur! Laughs on me for not asking but maybe we didn't have internet back then.
@@61mab it kinda depends though right, I mean if you were to play the clawhammer thing, it'd be alright.. Man, I play the guitar, so I'll do the 3 finger thing, because I hope that while I get better at playing banjo it might increase my speed on the guitar as well
Why are there three down pointing thumbs? Banjo Ben is ace and knows how to teach, and the production of these videos with the close ups is excellent. Thanks Banjo Ben.
Thanks for watching, bud! On the website, this is a 15+ minute video lesson. These RUclips clips are designed to give you an idea of the detail we focus on when you visit the site. I'd be honored to have you as a Gold Pick member! God bless, Ben
Did you know you can control the resolution by clicking on the little gear beneath the video? I have a feeling that your settings are set for the video to play back at the highest resolution, but you have the option to turn the resolution down manually. This video plays nonstop on my cellphone, so I know a standard cable modem should be able to handle it at 240 or 360p.
Banjo Ben is a lot more polite than I would be if you knocked one of my free instructional videos (not that I am good enough to have any). If you don't like it, you don't have to watch these FREE videos. Tool.

You bet! Each lesson on the site has a pdf download for you to print. Find out more here: banjobenclark.com/help No, I don't teach mountain dulcimer, but it's a cool instrument!
I would LOVE to be able to do rolls well enough to play through a song. My main problem is that after I practice for a few hours, I get an ear worm, and hear nothing but that high pitched 5th string being plucked over and over. It drives me nuts.
Put a piece if tape on the fifth string at the bridge. A lot of old time banjo pickers do that to mute that fifth string. Just a little touch of the tape goes a long ways at muting it.
ben i ve been playing chet atkins style with thumb and 1st and 2nd finger on guitar. ive got the possibility of buying a banjo at a good price, do you think the skills i ve acquired on guitar are transferable? i m slightly concerned that the time i spend going back learning a new instrument could be better spent concentrating on guitar-do you have any views. many thanks
I don't know what kind of roll this would be classified as, but I came up with this one that I kinda like.. 5-1-2-3-1-4-1-2-1 T-M-I-T-M-T-M-I-M (T = Thumb, M = Middle, I = Index) I'm sure it's a roll that's already been invented, so I'm not acting like I stumbled onto anything groundbreaking here. Lol
Hi Ben I’m teaching myself to play the banjo whilst learning from your u tube videos I have one major problem I have no pinky to rest on and my third finger on my right hand is not straight hence I’m having to pick without supporting my right hand I’m getting along sort of ok hopping I’ll get faster as time goes on Is there any aid I could purchase to help support my right hand, do you know of anything that could help Ken
Something that comes to mind is if you purchased a guitar slide for your ring finger and used that to keep it straight and balanced. Just an idea, but hopefully you've found something that works!
I'd just learn to do it without resting s finger or buying a device to act as a finger to rest. I'm a predominantly classical guitarist and I see a lot of acoustic guitarists rest their pinky on the soundboard. I've never needed to do that and have had no problems playing anything other guitarists play resting their pinky and playing with the other fingers; including this banjo roll technique. Just work on hovering your hand over the strings and resting your forearm in a spot that best facilitates that.
I just got a banjo for Christmas. This video is terrific. Thanks for not yelling at me when I screw up.

It's a mandolin on the left and a banjo on the right ;)
What’s this banjo from (company)
Thanks. My closest friends call me "Brick House" as a nickname. Since I don't know you, please just call me "Brick".
bobby flay?
mmmm no.... Jack McBrayer for sure though.
Where is next part Ben please ?
Ben, is this banjo a converted 6 string? Is this conversion a viable option? I have a 6-string banjo but would like a 5 string
Great question, but nope-it has a tunneled 5th string like this one: www.stealthbanjo.com/

what types of finger picks are those?

Banjo Ben Clark that or some kind of gender studies crap
Very confusing , best to use string numbers in addition to finger letters.
You got a good thing going, but you talk way too much in your videos. In an 8 minute video, there are about 2 minutes of actual instruction.
cool man ,,ill pull it out of the closet ,,,and dust er off ,,im self tought -bout time i did er right ,,,peace
