@@chingizzhylkybayev8575 Megan Ganz. Please look her up. Dan apologized to her via Twitter, and Megan had to extract a better and more specific apology from him. Also, Dan wasn't fired just because of the Chevy incident. He was also fired because he kept turning in the script late, with the cast waiting for over 12 hours. The executives would be set up for shotgun approvals of his concepts, because he was an ambitious and capable creator, who was also disorganized. Plus, he often comes into the set drunk. At the time, he suffered from alcoholism and obsession. Dan wasn't taking care of himself, and it took a toll on production. And the show, which was already always in danger of being cancelled, suffered even more. You also have to put into context how the fight with Chevy started. Chevy once got mad at Dan for turning up without a script during production. Dan got mad at Chevy because Chevy would leave the set without finishing his scenes, since their hours got later and later in the week; this peaked on the episode Digital Estate Planning. This led to them calling each other out, thus the infamous "FU, Chevy" event happening. Both of them had their share of wrongs. The cast liked Dan; Community was his genius after all. But you have to consider that this cast was a group of the most patient and forgiving people.
His character seems to make progress in 1 episode then takes 2 steps back the next episode. A great example is the end of season 2. He explains how he pushes people away, expecting them to turn on him. Then he comes back next season a much better man. Then suddenly season 4 goes back to making him just as racist and insensitive as before, pushing away the group even further. I understand his complaints and they were valid. By all accounts Dan Harmon was a comical/writing genius, but highly immature, alcoholic, and unreliable. Even admitting to sexual harassment later on. Obviously Harmon has improved dramatically, but Chevy had valid complaints about the production of the show. The only real thing I think Chevy did wrong was make an off-color joke to Donald Glover. Sure he could have been gentler with that voicemail, but I’d be outraged too if my drunk boss started a chant against me in front of my family.
the video for this was great! never thought i’d ever see my favorite animation creator and easily one of the best modern comedians on my favorite radio show. love Jim and Sam
For all the people saying "He doesn't take responsibility for his podcast" the Chevy thing happened before Harmontown was a podcast, it was originally just a stage show. Someone happened to have recorded it on their phone. Also if you listen to Dan talk he often talks about how he and Chevy still text and that Chevy would have taken the voicemail as a joke.
Apparently this is no longer the case as far as their friendly dynamic goes, Chevy blocked Dan after reading a recent article about Donald Glover where Harmon indicates Chase's reputed inflammatory on-set remarks leveled at Glover were a result of his being jealous of the younger man's obvious comedic abilities.
@@erickmejia4602 The Streisand Effect isn't a logical fallacy. It's a social phenomena named for Barbara Streisand. When you attempt to suppress or hide information, it makes people more likely to seek out said information, even if they wouldn't have originally given a shit. Thus, your actions have the opposite of the desired effect. So named because Barbara Streisand's house was coincidentally photographed while records were being taken of coastal erosion. She tried to suppress the pictures so people wouldn't see her house, but that ended up drawing even more attention to her house than if she had done nothing. So Dan Harmon is doing the opposite. Instead of trying to cover up, he's metaphorically plastering pictures of his house all over the place so no one will give a shit.
I'd hope that Dan and Chevy put aside their differences if the movie is made. I would hate to see a community movie WITHOUT Pierce Hawthorne in it and I think so would the rest of the "Community" community. Community is one of my all time favourite shows but it could have been even better had Chevy and Dan got on. You could tell, watching the show, when things between Dan and Chevy got heated. Less appearances by Chevy and such. Dan definitely crossed the line tho...
Chevy actually liked being apart of Community, but eventually got fed up that his character stayed the exact same, except gradually getting more racist and sexist. Chase probably was difficult to work with (he’s always been) but he didn’t hate Community (or Dan Harmon) at all. He was just frustrated that his character was kicked to the side. Harmon just made things worse then they should’ve been.
They tried to give his character more development in season 3. In the video game episode there was going to be an ending scene where Pierce gave Abed the flash drive with his digital girlfriend on it, but Chevy refused to film the scene. Season 4 was when he had his major meltdown, and Harmon wasn’t even involved that season. Chevy had always been a diva on the show.

Even after I bought a pair of back up glasses, black out me would hide those too, thinking it hilarious.
Thing I hate about this is: I know Chevy is hard to deal with, Chevy is notoriously hard to work with, Dan had every idea what he was getting into with Chevy, and yet still whined punished him for being hard to with. Dan really trivializes that he, Chevy's boss, publicly humiliated him, entreated the cast and crew to joim him in it, people Chevy probably thought of as friends and colleagues, and he did this in front of Chevy's family at a work function. No part of this is appropriate or acceptable, and it doesnt matter if Chevy's kids are your age, you insulted and humiliated the man in front of his loved ones who were there supporting your project.
Kevin L So what if he apologize? That was still a f*cked up thing to do and Chevy’s response to that was totally acceptable. And the racist jokes on Glover is blowing so out of proportion. It is confirmed chevy worked on his lines and it was all an misunderstanding. In s4 chevy had to play and character that was racist all the time and made racist jokes. And shitty to the crew? Dude. Continue reading on TMZ and Hollywood reporter and believe everything you read. None of the actors has said he was a bad person. Dan Harmon on the other hand, used to sleep on sets, show up late. And you talk about being a jerk to your crew? That was Harmon the entire time to chevy. For some reason he could not handle a guy that had a funnier mind than him. Also many reports make it clear that Harmon is not very polite or acts good to his cast and crew members over the years.

Mike Oprisi I mean, you just pulled that out of your ass. Go watch the shorts. From the very first one Rick stutters and belches out words. I like a lot of Harmon’s work but he’s clueless about a lot of what he thinks he understands: “wife and kids” meaning embarrassed in front of his circle. Silly.
Tim Portantno “embarrassed in front of.” It might be silly, but that is what he was more likely to mean when his kids are “48.” It’s an intellectually dishonest position to claim that there is only one way to react, and one way to mean ambiguous phrases. I do not get embarrassed because my family saw me do something embarrassing, but I can be embarrassed in a situation while in front of them and others.
Tim Portantno try a little self-awareness. A lot of projection coming from you. This is clearly not an honest discussion. I’m sorry for talking sheet about your hero. Peace.
Tim Portantno I like Harmon more than chase. Deductive reasoning not repetition. By Harmon making an assumption about what Chevy meant then coming to the conclusion that it didn’t make sense is bad reasoning. I admit the ambiguity of the phrase used, you have stated that it can only mean one thing. One man has the reputation of being an asshole. The other has the reputation of putting his foot in his mouth. I never defended Chevy Chase. These situations are not “which side are you on.” I can criticize both men for the unreasonable things they say or do. This video wasn’t about chase. It was about Harmon’s dealings with Chase..as so my comment was. Oh...my bad I don’t know the rules for youtube. Should I point out that you used “your” when you should of used “you’re” or are we good?
Tim Portantno so you assume that I didn’t catch that the first time I read it, because I didn’t point that out? I gave you the benefit of the doubt. As far as “proving my point” goes: you,,again, demonstrated a lack of self-awareness and a lack of reasoning skills. You can keep coming back with crap but at this point you’re coming across as a troll or low-intelligence, either way I’ll be nicer and humor your attempts. Good look.
If Harmon and him never had their feud, Pierce would’ve been such an absolute amazing character from start to finish. What began as a goofy yet lovable potential father figure for Jeff quickly devolved into a broken record of racist or sexist one liners. I get Chevy’s frustration with not being utilized properly and pretty much being stuck in a role that wasn’t what he signed on for, so hopefully he can get a chance to give Pierce’s character some closure in the movie. Either in flashbacks, some other dimension in which Pierce is alive, or he just faked his death all together lol. I just want to see the hatchet buried and Pierce to be given one last emotional scene.
Ehh I wouldn’t call it great. Bill just takes one word from somebody and immediately jumps to conclusions. Like how he ran with it and started calling Chevy thin skinned or had no sense of humor, then Dan immediately corrects him.
Given Dans Twitter persona...he seems to be turning into Chevy. But....watching Rick and Morty has made me sympathize with Dan more. All that stuff about divorce, alcoholism....the changed claymation still at the end in season three is depressing.

To all the people saying he is difficult and a jerk, did you even listen to the entire video? Harmon applauds him for being great to regular, every day people.
They didn't need this video, my dude. There are rampant stories of how much of an asshole Chevy Chase is to fans and coworkers. But I've never met him myself, so I wouldn't know their veracity.
That's because they stroke his ego because he thinks he is "above them" and doesn't see them as a threat where as his colleagues in shows such as community they surpass him in terms of acting and comedic talent, not to say the Chevy Chase isn't funny but he has a history of being difficult to work with all the way back to his first time hosting SNL in '78 which cause a fight to break out between himself and Bill Murray who was brought in to replace Chevy in the cast.
I'm 57 and in 75 when saturday night live came on the air and I was NINE we all knew Chevy was a douche. He always came off as someone with a higher opinion of themself.
Dan Harmon is a good writer. Community was (for the first 3, 4 seasons) amazing, Rick and Morty is allright but overrated. He says he's 'sorry' about the two incidents (the wrapparty 'fuck you', and the voicemail) but all in all he's making excuses and still taking the piss at Chevy. Look, obviously Chevy must be hard to work with, but really, there's no excuse for such a childish retaliation. I mean, come on, making all colleagues shouting 'fuck you Chevvy'? Makes me think about the roast in The Office. And then, when Chevy reacts, maybe in a stupid way, but certainly justafiable, make even more of a joke of him. That's just cruel. Especially since they all knew that was Chevy's shot at a second carreer.
I think it’s pretty well documented that Chevy was a nightmare on set. He was a power player and apparently enjoyed making things difficult for the crew and other actors (throwing tantrums, refusing to work scheduled hours, and making demands). So I think while what Dan did was clearly unprofessional… I think it was somewhat brought on by Chevy himself. He didn’t say he forced them to say it just made it clear they could say it without being reprimanded. It was a lame gag for a boss to pull but it appears the crew agreed with the sentiment.
Mad props to the screenplay up the butt. Double props if you return the copy to the writer after. WGA has good mental health care and like doctors, if they get an infection, right? (...I was a caregiver for like 6 years, poop jokes have kinda evolved, surprsingly hard to get an infection from poop, but I think the ones you can get are real bad, there were some angry nurses at a nursing home in my town when I discovered my mothers hand covered in poop multiple days... their opinion was she was just old... they get covered in poop... thankfully my mother was a genius and relearned to walk against the odds and lived the rest of her days with hands not covered in poop and living in her house... Pierce Hawthorne's racism was hilarious on the show tho. I couldn't understand why he had such a problem playing the character that way. It was sometimes subtle. I remember catching more of it after a second or third viewing.
but he was always true to his representation in the pilot, a script he read and agreed to be a part of. What kind of an ego do you need to have to refuse playing a role you agreed to play simply because you can't disassociate from your character (despite that being an actor's job)

@@Xavier2312 It wasn't a joke. Dan really was often drunk on set. Genius he may be, but he wasn't the most upstanding nor organized showrunner either. At the time, he was quite vindictive. Chevy wasn't the only one he treated wrongly on the set.

@@djinnsbetpools literally no one else had a problem with Dan.

Going back and watching the first three seasons in a few days I can understand Chevy's complaint.
Plz explain
Facts

8:15 It's like the opposite of the Streisand Effect
@DrTheKay how is it a logical fallacy?
Community is one of my all time favourite shows but it could have been even better had Chevy and Dan got on. You could tell, watching the show, when things between Dan and Chevy got heated. Less appearances by Chevy and such. Dan definitely crossed the line tho...
Chevy is notorious for being an asshole on the set and difficult to work with. He has burned so many bridges over the years.
Harmon just made things worse then

They tried to give his character more development in season 3.
Kyle Way He already admitted he was wrong for that, though. Doesn’t excuse that Chevy was being a dick either.
Chevy is a jerk and can be a horrible person but so can Dan and for some reason people tend to let Dan wrongdoings go.

This video really makes me feel Rick manarism are designed around Harmon. From the speech stutters, to the drinking, and to his intelligences .
Rick's character was designed in the OG shorts, long before Harmon got involved. That was all roiland.
Harrison Lane the original design has no barring on ricks current mannerisms.
Mike Oprisi I mean, you just pulled that out of your ass. Go watch the shorts. From the very first one Rick stutters and belches out words. Even the pacing of the conversations between Doc and Mharti is similar to what they do on the show. Roiland did alter the voice to sound more like a drunk Harmon (dropping the weird accent and picking up some of Harmon’s mannerisms) but the idea that his mannerisms in the shorts are stylistically disconnected from the show is ridiculous.

ChrosTV Well that’s because Harmon came back to write episodes!

Harmon and Burr are two of my favorite people, this is legendary

It was a lame gag for a boss to pull but it appears the crew agreed with the sentiment.
other people of big characters are difficult to work with. Jim Carrey etc.
I wish the title had a warning that Sam Robert's would pop in.
Dan Harmon's trying his best. Leave the guy alone. He just wants to make TV shows, for crying out loud. Give him a break.
Elder Care is so bad in California...)

If “by all accounts” you mean “something Chevy said once”, then you’re probably right.
