I like how them old school Grand Marquis are so similar to the LTD Crown Victorias in every way (have an '89 LX), only slightly more luxurious. Beautiful, great condition Mercury.
Really nice car. These looked so much better with the optional formal brougham roof which you have. I remember looking at this exact model on the dealer lot and wanting either a Light Titanium or Dark Titanium LS. This was the best color.
@@paulparoma That roof was optional on the Grand Marquis beginning around 1982 and Ford later made it available on the Crown Victoria a year or so later. I would estimate that one quarter or less of the production of both Fords and Mercurys had this option. It's a shame because I think the car looks so much better with it. The treatment includes an extra cap that is welded into the rear window opening which extends the roofline a little bit, makes the C-pillar fatter and more upright, and makes the rear window more upright and smaller.
@@AlexanderCrump Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, that was certainly optional and not often seen. My '86 Grand Marquis had it, and I've always liked that more-formal look.
@@borisratnik9032 Was Cinnabar more of a pink metallic? I remember it. I also liked some '80s sedans without the vinyl roof. I always wanted a Cadillac de Ville without the vinyl top but those were pretty rare. Same with the Electra and Ninety-Eight. I think it was standard on all boxy Town Cars.
I've had well over 30 cars and none of them could ever match the joy and comfort of this grand marquis. Boy did the leather seats heat up in the summer though 😅
I was fortunate to be able to purchase in January of this year a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition one of only 250 built with this trim package in dark blue metallic with full blue carriage roof and gold exterior trim and trunk lid luggage rack in showroom condition with only 67,000.0 miles. I am the second owner and it is the most comfortable car I have ever owned.
@@JulianJ58 Thanks for your comments. I was fortunate to find this car as I have wanted a Grand Marquis for a long time but could never find one in such good condition. My local repair dealer happened to buy it from the family of the original owners who had passed away. The family did not want the car so they sold it to Bundy Motors in Tolland, Ct. who I purchased it from. They ( the family ) called it a " Grandpa car ". My other two cars are a 1987 Ford Crown Victoria Wagon and a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria LX Wagon in similar Tan colors. All are great cruisers and the wagons due duty as tow vehicles for my boats.
By the way, your car is Beautiful, that color Titanium, the clothes, etc. They bring back fabulous memories, hearing that engine purr is fantasy music. Congratulations.
Thank you very much. I recently purchased a 1997 Thunderbird with 80k miles and a 4.6 V8. It drives better than a Mustang due to the IRS rear end which i will be restoring due to sun damage in the paint.
@@ze_german2921 last year of that style too I think! That or 98 was… I almost had a 97 thunderbird lx fully loaded for my first car it was nice. That was years ago but I do like them still
@@ze_german2921 the lights close to the front tires at the bottom work only when you click your turning signal. I can see them in this car since this trim is highest. They don't come with basic trim. Anyway, they're history now, no car maker have them.
They are called cornering lamps because they are intended to light the roadway in the direction of a turn. I doubt they were ever very useful, but I loved the look of them on higher-end luxury cars.
Hi Z_German, I live in Mexico and I want to soon acquire a Ford Mercury Gran Marquis Made in the USA like this one that you kindly show us or a Gran Torino, because I had one years ago and I love big cars. Cinnabar Metallic for me, with NO vinyl roof. I wanted to MARRY that car . . . all I could afford was a Ford Festiva at the dealer across the street.

Could you kindly swap out the chime in this Grand Marquis with one from a 1987-90 Chevy Caprice Classic?
Isoldthis beauty but I had a plan to install a LS5.3 Liter with Ford Valve Covers and a4L60E transmission. Ford AOD transmission are terrible.
Not sure if they are interchangeable. I think GM and Ford sourced these components differently and they have different pin arrangements.
