I have one too, the time/date hasn't worked for years, I'm sure it's the battery, I had no idea it could keep from booting up! Now to find a new battery. I have a G4 powermac mdd, so beautiful, but won't start, I'll try the battery trick first. For a long time I thought it was the power supply and was going to send it to the guy on ebay for repair, but then I thought maybe its the power switch, so I'm searching for how to check it, meanwhile I'll get that battery replaced. thanks for the video! what fun!
Is the parameter battery the same one used in the Macintosh Power PC? Recently found a tossed out G4, & some time ago I found a tossed out 6500 / 250 & matching CRT. The 6500 works, but not sure about the G4! Your G4 has iOS X?
Heard about your channel from Action Retro. Great stuff, glad I found it! I picked up one of these cheap due to it not booting. I was going to use it for donor parts for my other two working G3s. I assumed a dead power supply but after watching this it might be an easy fix? Thanks!
Oh boy! The excitement! Tomorrow I will receive from Amazon a battery and some thermal paste - and because my iMac G4 is not responding at all - just like the one in this video - I am so hopeful!! It's a bit big for use as a paperweight, so my fingers are crossed. (I will update with the result - good, or bad).
Will an iMac G4 boot with no PRAM battery? Bought a 17" G4 that won't boot, first thing I checked was the battery, it was dead. I pulled the battery put it back together and still no sign of life.
My dead iMac G4 won't boot anymore either. I took it apart checked the battery (good), power cable is good, tried the pmu switch. I even went so far as to replace the power supply (not fun at all) but still can't get a sound out of her. I don't know what to try next.
You’re running out of options, sadly. It’s possible a bad hard drive or bad RAM could keep it from booting, but it would be surprising if one of those kept it from doing anything at all. It might be worth it to re-seat the RAM, and if that won’t work, try and see if it turns on with the data cable that runs from the logic board to the internal drives is disconnected. If that fails, the logic board may have died.
Got one of those was working fine, stopped to play chime while powering on. Audio stutter problems like a damaged speaker I didn't mind so headphones and external speakers was working perfectly fine. Now just gives a grey screen with no image turning it on, sometimes a white flash screen and after that grey again. Powering with headphones still play the startup chime and OSX cuz it makes sounds while pressing mouse clicks or keys on the keyboard. Once booted to Mac OSX after 5 minutes pressing power iMac goes to suspension with blink light on monitor and HDD turns off, pressing anything gives white screen for one tiny instant and then grey again. I did PRAM method and PMU button reset but still not giving any image on display. Not even with CMD + S or other combination keys to do emergency recovery or something. I still have plenty of important old pictures and stuff stored here any help please. Or main board is about to die?? Boots even from super drive but no image just grey color.

05:03 “yea!!” This helped a ton. I think my g4 tower needs the same battery replacement.
My one has the same problem just inserted the battery but it still does not work...I can hear its on it runs but nothing on screen

I have the same issue and would love to try this. What kind of battery is that and where can I get it?
I got mine on Amazon. Just look for 1/2AA Size Lithium Batteries (3.6V).
thank you so much! :)
