    Forcing footwork and position in traditional Silat training.
    When you are handicapped by your reach being limited and your training partner having full arms reach, you rely on strategies that rely on footwork and positioning to capitalise on the situation.
    This is one of the options of training found in Bruneian Martial Art - Silat Suffian Bela Diri.
    Thank you Ray Burns for your patience in assisting me in my demonstrations and instructions in the seminar.

    This is insane! Super high level stuff.
    Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this not choreographed he’s every next move depends on the attacker’s (student) strength and and positioning of hand,body,hips etc... hard to see from a video. I can also see that he is not using strength when doing his drills. Timing,distance and coordination seems to be the key. Respect!!!

    Love your method of teaching Maul. Your voice is gentle but the application is frustratingly brutal. Once the flow starts every trap has like 3-7 options to another option through another option. It all ends in similar fashion. If a combatant has Mauls skill your in pain, bewildered and impressed at how much control you didnt have and mercy shown knowing Maul could Mortal Combat finish you.
    And through it all you still appear humble, appreciative and possibly better than the hype. Thanks for responsibly teaching your powerful art to the world. It cant be easy. I wish you success and hope the BS that comes with success you navigate as fluid as your art!

    Maul is a true expert in Silat Suffian Bela Diri IMHO. Always wanted to train in this particular system, but there's no classes in my area. The body mechanics are subtle, but definitely effective. It's a better form of Wing Chun Kung Fu IMHO. Both are similar CQC systems, but I can see more realism and practicality in this style of Silat.

      @martialway100 4 года назад

      @@nositadewi5705 Don't mind if it is original or not IMHO. The most important point, is whether it is effective or not. Personally, I train in many martial art systems e.g. Combat Sambo, catch wrestling, BJJ, Judo, freestyle & Greco Roman wrestling, western Boxing, Sanda, Muay Boran, Aikijujutsu, military combatives, chin na, some karate, Tae Kwon Do kicks, etc.. I study Silat and Kali videos, specifically for bladed weapons.

    • @nositadewi5705
      @nositadewi5705 4 года назад +3

      @@martialway100 well it is effective, but the real one is even better especially in weapon. Suffian one is more like a raw silat.
      Cause most silat usually is more into body reflect and body strength training, there is a dodging movement, but you know it won't work, just rely on reflect it's more effective, just like whing Chun they rely on reflect too
      And no it's not a better form of wing chun, they have their own philosophy
      And Kali came from silat either to mention that Philippine was rule by Indonesian kingdom

    • @martialway100
      @martialway100 4 года назад

      @@nositadewi5705 Interesting. I study other Silat systems too, such as 'Seni Gayung' and Pencak, but I'm no expert. :-).

      Rorschach Jack31 Rorschach Jack31 silat was developed more than 600 years ago for the average people to defend themselves from armed assailants, to protect thier family and country, hence you see the movements are based on defending against armed attacks. If you want to see silat to fight toe to toe against martial sports where the atheletes are trains professionally to win at their sport then silat will lose.
      We train for different goals. Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ trains to win under their rules. Traditional Silat trains to fight against criminals that disregards the law.
