Forcing footwork and position in traditional Silat training. When you are handicapped by your reach being limited and your training partner having full arms reach, you rely on strategies that rely on footwork and positioning to capitalise on the situation. This is one of the options of training found in Bruneian Martial Art - Silat Suffian Bela Diri. Thank you Ray Burns for your patience in assisting me in my demonstrations and instructions in the seminar.
Me, being a student in kenpo karate, I'm fascinated by the handwork and the economy of motion being displayed. People underestimate footwork all day and it shows in the motion. Love watching these videos bruh. Keep doing what you do.
The more I watch this guy, the more astounded I am by him. He's the very definition of martial arts, a living weapon who will hopefully never be unleashed, but if he is..then good god, that attacker is toast.
Bjarne Smith - within watching 20secs I know this Guy is another fantasist 'Guru' who is talking fancy bollocks regarding knife defence. FFKS, when will it ever end...
This is insane! Super high level stuff. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this not choreographed he’s every next move depends on the attacker’s (student) strength and and positioning of hand, body, hips etc... hard to see from a video. I can also see that he is not using strength when doing his drills. Timing, distance and coordination seems to be the key. Respect!!!
Klaus Kuplen this guy is a beast he has full control over attacker’s and it’s not easy to come to his level. It’s almost like you are watching a kung fu movie .
Love your method of teaching Maul. Your voice is gentle but the application is frustratingly brutal. Once the flow starts every trap has like 3-7 options to another option through another option. It all ends in similar fashion. If a combatant has Mauls skill your in pain, bewildered and impressed at how much control you didnt have and mercy shown knowing Maul could Mortal Combat finish you. And through it all you still appear humble, appreciative and possibly better than the hype. Thanks for responsibly teaching your powerful art to the world. It cant be easy. I wish you success and hope the BS that comes with success you navigate as fluid as your art!
great display of knowledge, skill and power principles. probably the best i'v seen on you tube. most other so called sifu etc only show half of the movement,
If I have had a hard day earning my corn I like to listen to Miles Davis,Debussey ...................and watching this man.Sometimes we need to slipout of the "martial" and remember the art.Ruthless elegance...no more need be said
Thank you again. Simple But Not So Simple, but once you have the Movement down it can be fun to demonstrate. You are making me pay more attention to the Shoulders and being able to read opponent. Following your way of Striking is Smooth and can be used always. Excellent.
I'm so ready to add Silat to my journey with"Shin Negiry Karate jitsu".... for my age the minimal fluid movements are important and impressive very effective straight to the point.
Thank you sooo much Maul!!! I was beginning to worry about you. Lol I will be spending the Rest of the day on this video. I've been trying to improve my Footwork and this is PURE GOLD!!!
Maul is a true expert in Silat Suffian Bela Diri IMHO. Always wanted to train in this particular system, but there's no classes in my area. The body mechanics are subtle, but definitely effective. It's a better form of Wing Chun Kung Fu IMHO. Both are similar CQC systems, but I can see more realism and practicality in this style of Silat.
@@nositadewi5705 Don't mind if it is original or not IMHO. The most important point, is whether it is effective or not. Personally, I train in many martial art systems e.g. Combat Sambo, catch wrestling, BJJ, Judo, freestyle & Greco Roman wrestling, western Boxing, Sanda, Muay Boran, Aikijujutsu, military combatives, chin na, some karate, Tae Kwon Do kicks, etc.. I study Silat and Kali videos, specifically for bladed weapons.
@@martialway100 well it is effective, but the real one is even better especially in weapon. Suffian one is more like a raw silat. Cause most silat usually is more into body reflect and body strength training, there is a dodging movement, but you know it won't work, just rely on reflect it's more effective, just like whing Chun they rely on reflect too And no it's not a better form of wing chun, they have their own philosophy And Kali came from silat either to mention that Philippine was rule by Indonesian kingdom
Very nice. And it’s so smooth. Suffian Bela Diri; you say you’re not trying to be faster than the opponent, but the way you move seems like you finish a fight in 5-7 seconds if that. You really are a sight to see. Great view of the movements. Adding to playlist. Lol 👍
So much shared in this single video it is mind blowing stuff. So many concepts interwoven into some basic applications that works! Love your skill Maul!
Could we see demonstrations against other styles of fighting? How to defend against an aggressive boxer, how to deal with chopping leg kicks & clinch work from Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu submission defense on the ground. I feel that people would greatly appreciate the display of practicality against the other more popular styles, & may increase awareness & respect for this devastatingly beautiful art.
Rorschach Jack31 Rorschach Jack31 silat was developed more than 600 years ago for the average people to defend themselves from armed assailants, to protect thier family and country, hence you see the movements are based on defending against armed attacks. If you want to see silat to fight toe to toe against martial sports where the atheletes are trains professionally to win at their sport then silat will lose. We train for different goals. Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ trains to win under their rules. Traditional Silat trains to fight against criminals that disregards the law.
@@Maul565 Thank you for enlightening me. I apologize I was not aware that you've already covered basic defenses against popular techniques. I recently watched your demonstrations on the kickoflegend channel. I am very impressed by the level of skill & finesse you show with such a lethal style of defense. I would be honored to train under you someday.
