    Just watched this 3 times in a row. He’s like a magician. So amazing. What an honor it would be to train with him.

    I like that he acknowledges and trains for the inevitable times when you will get hit. Whether fighting in the streets or in the ring, you're going to get hit. And Suffian Bela Diri wants his students to be ready for that.

      I've seen it taught, but the ones who teach it are always very careful to know their students' disposition and maturity before they teach this type of stuff. The same seems to be true with joint locks and similar techniques. These are exceptionally dangerous techniques and you don't want to be responsible for empowering a psycho.

    • @ghastly08

      @@kma3647 I only knew of private one on one when I was younger. And yes there were many who wanted to know but only a couple he would teach because of how badly someone can be hurt. Only self defense and when absolutely necessary.

    A lot of people here in the comment don’t understand the art of fighting/war. They keep saying how are they going to be prepared for a hit when you are attacked by surprise. That is the whole point of training yourself, not just on how to take hits like they demonstrated in this video, but also to be aware of your surrounding so you won’t be surprised. But however experienced or trained you are there will always be a time when you are caught by surprise. That is just plain life. But by training and being prepared, you decrease the chance of it happening but not to the point of 0% chance. This comply to life not just martial arts. If you are not prepared, that sudden surprise situation will hit you hard. But if you are prepared, you could avoid, decrease the chance, or decrease the impact of it to yourself. I was lucky that day they didn’t commit to attacking my friend and I because if they did it could go both ways, either I die and my friend afterwards if she couldn’t get away in time or they die, and I could have died afterwards from injuries.

    • @m.d.f3797
      @m.d.f3797 6 лет назад +4

      And there is another video (I can’t remember which one, look it up yourself) where while he was teaching, he said “ the first strike is the one that you cannot expect, but the strikes afterwards you can be prepared for”. Btw this is not a direct exact quote by him but it is what he meant when he said it. Well, more of what I understood what he was trying to say. This is about the same thing I always advice my friends and family, do your best to avoid, but if you can’t then be prepared for what might come.
      Just a simple example from life experience , I once walked with a friend at night, and there was this dark alleyway that was known for robberies, I knew this but my friend (who was a girl) did not know it. I wanted to avoid going through there but at that time we had no other choice. The moment we entered the alleyway I prepared myself for what could happen and I also prepared my friend, I told her this is a bad area, so you need to be ready, if anything happens you run, don’t look back, try to help me or wait for me. You run towards people and ask for help from them, send help to me but afterwards go straight back home and don’t wait. And sure enough halfway through the alleyway a bunch of guys was following us and slowly creep up to us. I slowed my steps and let her walk in front and told her to increase her pace. I let her get a little bit ahead of me and I turned back to see what might be coming and what i might be facing up against, and there was 2 guys looking straight at me. I gave them a look that you don’t want any trouble with me because I will fight to the death, be it your death or mine. And they understood the look and they turned away. So the best advice in the first place is not to even put yourself in this kind of situation. But if you must be ready for what might come.

      Thanks for sharing, respect for your way of handling the situation. Reminds me of a day in the subway where a group were molesting an elder couple trying to provoke them. The man started to get irritated but he wouldn't be able to handle the group. At that point I felt to distract the group away from the insecure and irritated source of their joy and knew they would direct immediately to me. I said stop that also having contemplated the worst to put my energy field clear. Immediately they turned to me and I said absolutely nothing is happening, I was ready for everything. They could see I was ready. So they stepped off their high horse and I left together with the group at the next stop, ready for whatever shift in the vibration. Always vibrate higher. Practise, practise. Thanks again for your sharing.

    that iron body is similar to southern mantis.
    How the do balls resist the kick?
    I mean in southern mantis, they can hide the balls into their body. Is the mechanic the same or it is just the balls get used to the kicking impact?

    SOMEONE PLEASEE PLEASE explain too me the differences between Silat , Kali or/and other forms of Silat. Is there only one class or art of Silat or is there many/different disciplines of the art ( I mean completely different not just a little) I've been a big fan of this channel for little over a year now and Sadly I am still confused about this. Thank you to the few who take the time to read and answer this.

    • @icedmocha6670
      @icedmocha6670 7 лет назад +11

      daniel montes silat are form of martial arts originated from Nusantara or nowadays called Southeast Asia (malaysia, indonesia, brunei, singapore).Since the origin of silat are used in war situation, most silat technique are focus on counter attack and actually killing the people instantly. Unlike any martial art,rather than fighting, silat technique are designed to kill people or at least give fatal damage to the opponent. because of that, many of silat technique or called "buah" in Malay are prohibited to use in a formal tournament. And also silat are known for their signature weapon such as keris, tekpi, kerambit which every of them have their own speciality. Thats what silat basically, i hope you understand my explanation.

    • @minnesotakungfucom
      @minnesotakungfucom 7 лет назад +2

      daniel both Silat(also Pencak Silat) and Kali (also Arnis, and Eskrima) with various different spellings are general terms that describe arts from a particular region in the same way kung fu(gong fu, and wushu) are used to describe all Chinese martial arts, silat is used to describe arts from the Indonesian/Malaysian area and kali for arts from the Philippine area. But just like kung fu which includes everything from Tai Chi, to Shaolin, to Wing Chun Etc. there are also hundreds of different styles of Silat and Kali as often different islands and villages and even families had their own systems and while some are similar some of them also look just as different as the different kung fu styles with some styles emphasizing ground techniques or joint locks or striking and some being very hard while others are soft looking or being very rhythmic vs flowing and some include all these elements, also more recently some have started focusing less on the traditional fighting and more on competition just like many arts from other areas have (which in my opinion is unfortunate).

    • @CRUZEOO
      @CRUZEOO 7 лет назад +6

      theres many silat style and forms, its for you to find which one that fits your liking. and kali is not silat. and its not just the silat style, you have to find a good instructor as well, sometimes the silat style is good but the instructor/master is bad and vice versa. as a malay born whos growingup watching silat, ll i can say that this silat sufien bela diri is one of the best out there. it has nice flow because Maul improvise it uite a bit.

    • @minnesotakungfucom
      @minnesotakungfucom 7 лет назад +4

      agree completely, the instructor makes all the difference in any martial art you study, it might be your favorite style in the world but with a bad instructor it will be ruined, and Maul is a good instructor I have a friend that's an instructor under him and I've seen Maul in person and would recommend attending his seminars if he comes to your area, also all good instructors should be able to improvise because that's what fighting is :) unfortunately their are quite a few who can't

    Anyone by the way that thinks allot of more complex techniques that require things like catching the opponent's arms or legs mid fight could never be pulled off because fighting is fast and that's too precise. Take a look at practitioners of HEMA when they spar. The more trained and effective among them can be seen pulling off , picture perfect, some of the grapples and disarms shown in manuals on live opponents. Even look at MMA, as there are plenty of moments in fights when a fighter gets lucky and can catch a wrist or leg. Train the reflex on what to do with that arm or leg that you've caught, and you will get fantastic results. Just like swordsmen training reactions to when they feel their opponent's blade bind in their guard.

      He also teach simple move for beginners that I believe more practical in today real life.
      Many of the complex or fancy move are for expert and seminar only as repeat many time on his videos.
      With hard and long years of training, I believe even that so called unrealistic move can be done as prove by Guru Maul himself and the practitioner during the age of war.

      Because when I started training silat, MMA hasn't existed yet.I competed in Silat tournaments in college before smartphones was even invented. Im 45 years old now and Im not interested to compete against MMA athletes who are between their mid 20 and early 30's who will have longer careers than I will. Im happy where I am and I dont need to prove anything to random strangers on the internet. They give me nothing whether I fight or dont fight in MMA :)

      Tazz77 if you train a self defence martial arts and not sports, you should understand spacial awareness is part of sef defence training, not just techniques.

      Jonathan Malagon there are thousands of different silat styles much like kung-fu.
      I'm not sure but I think at the core it is his family's style mixed with other systems of silat

      In Sarawak (just next to Brunei) we called it kuntau. its actually a form of silat, but we usually dropped the word 'silat' and refer it as kuntau only. you can see the word in the video at 2.22 minute
