This is where the other groups definitely realized they were playing for 2nd place. You can tell Kirstie was about to crash during the judges' comments. Amazingly, #8 was done the same day. The producers were considerate enough to allow PTX to go last on the 2nd round to give Kirstie more time to recuperate. Kirstie had the lead on #8 and it is one of my favorite performances of hers.
Anything they do is epic. And I love his reactions. Every reaction I have seen has the same look of absolute bewilderment. Rbf..resting bewildered face
Mitch missed his high school graduation to be here. Kirsty and Scott both had a year of college. Kevin and Avi had graduated college So Mitch was shy, sort of thrown into the deep end. In addition the show wanted them to,have a lead singer and they tried to cover up Mitch being gay. So he took a minute to find himself. They all supported him and encouraged him and he gets bolder as the season goes on. When they won there is an interview of Kirstie crying and saying she’s so happy the world will get to hear Mitch! ❤️
If you want to see what the other groups were saying, you can look for videos of Sam Tsui behind the scenes Sing Off 3 especially in the later episodes when there were fewer groups to talk about. Fun fact, the Trio ( Scott, Mitch and Kirstin) were in an episode of the TV show Bones and it also featured Sam Tsui. Don’t you worry, Mitch’s moment is coming.
Damn you!!! Lol…I can hardly wait for the next installment of PTX does the Sing Off!!! All I can say about Mitch blowing the roof off is…be patient, my friend…I can assure it HAPPENS!!! I don’t know why I get so invested in this series, I’ve seen it a hundred times! Actually, I do…one of the great pleasures of a Pentaholic is watching someone’s first reaction to what we already know is great. You have never disappointed!!! It is a true pleasure to watch your heartfelt reactions! All this AND you and your brothers and sisters in arms are keeping us safe at the same time❤ THANKS!!!
This still ranks as a favorite for me. Of course they don't have the polish that they do now, but still, they were head and shoulders above the rest. Especially in innovation.
This performance (#7) and the upcoming #10 are tied for my 2nd place favorite...just depends on what mood I'm in!!! My favorite (also the debut of the very first, original, "Mitch slap") is episode #12. Love watching your expressions as they power thru every song. Just keeps getting better and better!
I'm happy that you are continuing your reactions to Pentatonix Sing Off journey. I love this one. They made everyone notice them with this performance. You may have noticed that Nick said that they would be back later in the show. The show had Pentatonix go first that night for the first performance and then go last for the second performance. That gave Kirstin time to rest up a bit in between. That was very considerate.
The schedule on this show was brutal. They were constantly having to prepare two new songs, complete with rehearsals, ready to perform them in two weeks. It's a wonder they didn't have more problems with sickness than they did.
Don’t forget about the group number as well! Add in the requisite staged rehearsal shot for the video package, usually done in a location away from the hotel or studio, costume fittings, and all the choreography for three numbers-no wonder they were exhausted after two months of that.
I think everyone’s comments give you all the important information. Pentatonix does have a new original Christmas song with video Please Santa Please. You can decide if it’s too early for Christmas music but Pentaholics are usually up for PTX Christmas music any time of the year.
It’s so fun to watch them develop over the course of the show - but you can definitely tell the talent was there from the beginning. Loved your reaction, as always! Peace …
PTX will never sound as strong as they did when Avi was with them. He just added that strength and musical ability that fill up that group. He had just received an invitation to be the next bass for the Los Angeles Opera House the day before Scott found him through ben Bram. The fact that he is Classically/Operatically trained with such a wide vocal range and his control of his vocals, along with his powerful voice just made them in my opinion.
Kaplan/Olusola - one of the great rhythm sections in any genre! Mitch's voice really wouldn't suit this style of music, so he remains the hidden weapon in PtX's armour for the moment... Keep watching!
Wow! I need to hang my head and do a walk of shame and turn in my pentaholic card! I don't remember this one, it is fantastic for a difficult song to start. And I so agree when you mention the magic that is Kevin and Avi together. Think I'll give this one another listen or ten! Always appreciate the work you do, thank you
Mitch will have his moment, don’t you worry! By the way, most of us won’t complain about a rewatch…what’s 101 times watching this as opposed to 101 😜? You MUST listen to their recent release of Kiss From a Rose SOON. There are no words for how epic it is. None. Zero. 😲🤯😵💜
In the Video Killed preview, Scott was saying how they admired the other group Sonos so much and that they wanted to be like Sonos. (Sonos was a pretty big name in the US acapella scene at the time, doing quite well as a professional group based in LA. Having them eliminated in week 2 was a huge shock to acapella fans.) Funny thing, though, was that the remaining groups in the competition started drawing inspiration from Pentatonix! They began adding little twists to their performances that hadn’t been there in their first songs. They knew who was in first place and that they had to step it up to compete.
First of all I’ve been enjoying watching these performances with you, Kevin and Avi definitely carried this song and Kirstie definitely held her own even though she was sick
Unfortunately, the show allowed one lead with one back up main singer - Scott and Kirstie. Mitch does get some moments - one very memorable one coming up, but the show was encouraging him to suppress himself. At least that is what I heard. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong *smile*
You aren't wrong. The producers got really egregious with their homophobia when they edited the video of Pentatonix visiting the Trevor Project - they removed any mention that the organization was founded specifically to reduce the number of suicides among gay kids. Disgusting.
@@margretrosenberg420 The online blowback from the show’s fans was Huuuuuuuge. They knew they f’d up big time with that editing choice. No apology, though.
@@kathyastrom1315 Yes, they'd been trying so hard to keep any mention of sexual orietation off the show and that editing choice suddenly shone a glaring spotlight on their bigotry. If they hadn't done that nobody would have noticed - they would simply have assumed that maybe someone in Pentatonix had a gay cousin who'd killed himself. But when the show deliberately tried to obscure a fact that was public knowledge people wanted to know why, and what else they were hiding. As I've said elsewhere, bigotry makes people do stupid things. As for an apology, what could they say? "Sorry about that, but we wanted to keep the children in the audience from having to think about sex"? Anything they could have said would have served to make it even more obvious.
Unfortunately, the producers were trying to keep Mitch's sexual preference "unknown" as he is a very proud and happy gay man. If you watch all of the other groups, they too, had different singers represent certain parts, that didn't bring any more attention to what makes them different. It's quite sad to be honest, but Mitch will get his moment, I believe in #12, Dog Day Afternoon, where Scott was getting IV fluids right before they were going on screen, as he lost his voice. Instead, it was the one song that brought them the win on Sing Off!!!
@@johnthegreek5836he was out in his private life. But he has an easier time passing for straight than Mitch so was publicly back in the closet for years.
@@johnthegreek5836 the song Imagine is really good to showcase the first time Scott publicly came out. I have seen this probably 50 times and I still get goosebumps! Avi and Kevin......ridiculous!!! Can't wait for #'s 10 and 12!!!
Yes!!! The 12th is phenomenal
And 11. That duet/fight between Avi and Kevin was epic!

Can’t wait!
This is where they separated themselves from everyone else. Avi and Kevin just go off.
It is hard to believe Mitch was still in high school during this. He missed his high school graduation. They have come so far!!!
Patiently waiting for #10😂😂

You need to react to their new cover of ":Kiss From a Rose" - it's amazing.
It is indeed!
One of my favorites on the new Christmas album. They always choose a "non-Christmas" song and make it a Christmas song from now on.
Thanks!

Yep, they had to do another performance later on in the show and Kirstie looked much better in that performance.
Several times during the competition Avi and Kevin were referred to as ' meat and potatoes '
NBC wouldn't let Mitch show full potential, very sad but look at them now

That’s what I heard too. Mitch referred to his Sing Off performances as his being “Macho Mitch”.
"Masc Mitch", as in masculine. He mentions it in the SF reaction, and he refers to it again after he shaved his head.
