An acapella expert/judge was doing day-after recaps of the show analyzing each performance in detail, and he called that a synchopated rest and said he had never heard something like that before.
That isn't true. Its been done before in music, in any genre, but the reason why its not done a lot is because voices are VERY hard to line up precisely with such exposed rhythms. Its just a quarter note on the and of beat 3. But its rare because if anyone of those 5 are early or late, the whole effect is ruined, thats why its done seldomly. Just my take as a musician/music teacher.
This is my first time watching these. So glad you listened to those who said you were pausing too much. You made quick changes and really appreciated it. They are amazing. Avi and Kevin should gave been together forever. They are one. And loving to teach each other.

They hadn't quite chiseled it in stone yet, but they DID soon after. The producers did do a lot to hype up the drama during the "behind the scenes" videos, but Kirstie really was VERY sick that week, however. She knocks it out of the park during the performance, but you can tell during the judge's comments that she just wanted to go and pass out somewhere. It cracked me up when you got so impressed with that first transition. The rest of us were saying JUST WAIT!!
This is when they really started becoming out PTX. I think it’s the 12th performance that was super emotional after because they knew they killed it. Make sure you watch the whole video so you don’t miss when they go back to hear from them after Nick talks. They usually hear from them before going to commercial.
Me, too! Me, too! Love, love, LOVE this performance. Avi was a powerhouse, Kevin was genius, and Scott rasped like a coked-out rocker, all with their sweet baby faces! This lucky #7 show makes me grin from ear to ear every time... feelin' 17 again! Great reaction.
Fun fact: Make a mental note on that plushy red top that Kirstie wears in this... It makes a return appearance in their "couch video" cover of Maclemore's "Thrift Shop" a year or so after "The Sing Off" when they were trying to make their mark via RUclips videos after getting dropped by the label a week or so after winning the show.
Yeah, this was one of my favorites of the whole show. It is amazing that they were able to be soooo in sync after only 7 performances together ever!. By the way, one of Scott's many musical pursuits in high school was to sing lead in a rock band, which helped here, and in the rock part of Bohemian Rhapsody. There are a few gems still to come on the show, so I'm looking forward to more reactions.
I think this was one of the more “real” dramas. I’ve heard that the producers were desperate for some type of drama with PTX, since they had mostly smooth sailing. That shows up more for performances 9 & 10.
This was the first Sing-Off performance that I saw, back when I didn't know how to "work" RUclips and had just discovered Pentatonix. I wanted to hear everything they did, but I got hung up on "Born to Be Wild." Watched it at least 20 times before I could tear myself away to look for more PTX. This is SO GOOD. (All the Pentaholics read "SO GOOD" and heard it in the voice of Sara Bareilles. We've been down the Sing-Off rabbit hole so many times that we've got it all memorized.) So glad you loved it!
They usually have a “backstage” interview with them (each group) as they end...after Nick goes off to commercial. You should wait to see that before stopping ☺️

We have noticed that when they do two in one episode that one is freakin awesome the other one is ok like they focused more on on than the other. so just keep that in mind.
Pretty much the other groups were just hoping to make it to the final. They never were in the bottom 2. Ever. The other best performances are coming up.

Just an FYI, these are all private videos and don't require pauses the way a copyright would. However, comment stops are always welcome. Especially when you rewind so we can enjoy it again.
That's thing about reality TV...even bad ass competition shows like this. Everything simply needs to be rooted in truth. It's like E9 w/ OMG. They changed the lyrics because (well the lyrics are too nasty for TV) K.O. wants to do "clean" and honest music as it fits his spirituality and faith. They DEFINITELY hammed up the "dialogue", which was always backed by dramatic music.
Oh you are back to these. This was the one I really thought was the breakout performance. Avi & Kevin incredible. Scott was great too. Most everything was true. This illness was true for example. Having to switch up lyrics because Kevin is a Seventh Day Adventist is true as well when you get to that. If you wondered why Avi always says the most sexually provocative lines that would be why. Eg. "My body's too bootilicious for you" in their Beyonce medley.

Kirstie was genuinely sick that week. She gats sick a lot before shows on tour, I'm pretty sure the fake drama was more in week 9
week 6 was for sure fake, the Brittany Spears Medley drama. They later said there was no "full on disagreement"
