O my freakin' god, you're an angel! I was hooked onto this game cause of an old pc I had somewhere, but that PC gave spirit and wanted to play it ever since but couldn't get it to work. Now it does, thank you so very freaking much!!!
I can't thank you enough. The less than helpful people on GOG's support staff were doing nothing for me at all. I have had a support ticket in with them for 2 months without any support at all. I thought I would have to buy this game again on steam. Your directions were perfect. Thanks you made an old school gamers day.
I know you made this a year ago but a HUGE thank you from an old Gothic Fan for this. I've been trying to get it working using these very downloads but could not for the life of me to get it working because it was never explained exactly which ones were needed. Again thank you!
It's really unfortunate that a lot of old games need a bit of a messing around to get them working, but I'm glad to see you're willing to go through the (sometimes really annoying) process. So far I held back on recommending a lot of favorite older games of mine because of them not being "install and play", good to know that they can be recommended as well, with a short instruction on how to get them running too, of course.
Maybe it is an option to get an old pc that isn't connected to the internet, installed with windows 7, lot of those games you can play without internet so get older windows versions to play them on.

Gothic is extremely popular in Europe, but somehow underrated in anglosphere, thanks for promoting it! It's fun to watch your blind playthrough (: my beginnings were way more rough tho, you seem to have experience with old clunky games :p

I know this video is old but 3 things i liked to add to my gothic 2 play was the paladin helmet closed visor mod and for the dragon hunter heavy armor was the helmet mod with the two blades on the side like in the concept art, and for mage you can get a mage buff mod, so much more fun!
There is also a dx11 patch that adds realtime lighting and Tessellation, you can also enable quicksaving in the ini, but it not good to completely rely on it.
I'm pretty good with computers and I still had a hard time trying to figure this out. I tried going to the ini, I thought maybe the resolution was causing problems, compatibility modes, etc. I'm sure there's other ways to run this game but this is definitely the best. Thanks Lilia

Hmm, it's possible that it will work without patching but I'd follow Lilia's advice here. Gothic 1 worked straight from gog for me >but< I had to make adjustment because it was too dark. These old games were designed to be viewed on ancient CRT monitors, not the beautiful ones we have now.
I find it very bad that GOG version doesn’t come with all these fixes included and that it doesn’t run out of the package on Win10. I mean, isn’t it the reason to buy on GOG? To have the games working on newer systems? Very disappointed.
Until i bought the GOG version(i didn't even knew GOG)3-4 years ago , my Gothic games were simply unplayable at my Windows 7(back then) PC. I had tried my old CDs , the STEAM versions , *nothing was running* !!! I was so frustrated untill i tried the GOG versions and .... voila , it was running fine at my Windows 7. Since then , i use an old PC of mine as a retro-PC just for this reason , playing my old/favourite games ,and i created a dual-boot (WindowsXP/Windows 7) PC ,so i don't have the slightest idea if the GOG version the game is running at the new Windows10. But it runs fine at Windows 7 , so the GOG version was indeed running at newer systems like you said( unlike the other CD ,STEAM versions which were unplayable )
Honestly, GOG has a great track record of keeping their games compatible with modern OSs, sometimes even applying unofficial patches and fixes themselves. But I’d imagine there are legal reasons that prevent them from doing this for ALL games. For what it’s worth, Gothic 2 instals just fine on my Windows 10 system, but pretty much every Gothic player has been using these fixes anyways.

Ran Gothic 2 to check if it worked a while a go. Seemed to run fine from gog.
