      Sorry man, this is way outside anything I've dealt. I will say that it doesn't sound like a soft top issue. Way beyond that.

      Alan Gray Sounds like your comfort/convenience control module is failing. It is located under the carpet of the left front floor. Normally if the top was left down or the window was cracked or something was spilled it will get into the board and short it out.

    Thank you for the video. After replacing the motor myself, one of the audi dealer said that the motor was not working. About 4000 to change it. I leave in Switzerland, everything is expensive but WOW.
    The roof was opening now, but the part on the trunk did not open. After your video, i went to a other dealer and ask them about the Potensiometer( position sensor) ( your first part). They change it, 300 dollars and voila! Thank you so much.

I used pliers and small pipewrench to twist it back to its original position and it works for now. Saved min $500 for diagnosis, new latch and labour

    Hello! Very good video... My roof was not opening properly even after manual reset. Dealership and Audi specialist recommended changing pump and motor. I did buy a rebuilt pump and motor for a fraction of the price. Installed it and bled the system. The roof opens but now, the problem is that the rear roof cover, once opened, closes before the rear window and roof are fully retracted. Full opening cycle cannot be completed. My guess is that the potentiometer (position switch) is faulty. I checked the resistance across the potentiometer (position switch) and the resistance reading changes while open or closing the angle of switch but without having the original specs of the switch, hard to figure out if the signal is correct. Should I assume that the position switch is faulty and buy a new one??
    Thanks!!

    • @DashboardSymbols
      @DashboardSymbols  5 лет назад

      Actually, I would run a manual reset one more time. And also, be sure to look at the left side latch to see if its worn (more than likely is!). Otherwise, yes, get the position sensor.

      @@DashboardSymbols Good morning! The potentiometer switch finally arrived... I installed it and did a manual reset prior to trying an opening cycle. The problem persists ie. when the roof starts the opening cycle, the rear cover fully opens but its closes too early in the cycle (unlatched) therefore the roof is not fully retracted (rear window sits on closed rear cover. At that point in time, if I press downwards on the roof switch, the rear cover latches, the roof closes fully, locks in to the windshield frame and the windows roll-up. Question is which switch or sensor tells the rear cover when to close during the opening cycle?

      Point taken, but not exactly correct. The top is very, very heavy and nearly requires two people to move it back into position (down is easier). And Audi recommends against one person moving it to avoid twisting the structure.
