Wow! that was so easy. Always been so hard for me to tie a good slip/tension knot. My dad use to do them and he tried to teach me a few times but I would forget. Now I'm an old lady who wants to do some camping and tarp play. I made me a bunch of duck canva tarps; even sailor made me some grommets on them to help apply some guy lines and poles. Now I want to pitch a dinner fly with my newly made tarps and I wanted/needed some good advice and instruction on guy line and knot play.. You are a great knot teacher.
Thank you for this! I used to know how to do this knot, but haven't used it in a few years now. This was a great refresher, and I'll need it for the guy lines of my new tent! I bought 1mm Dyneema cord, and I noticed that the knots holds a bit better with 3 or 4 loops before passing the cord over the main and end piece to tighten it.
Thanks for this. It seems to work well on the guy lines for my gazebo. We’re having 40-50mph winds over here and my efforts to try to make a reasonably well tensioned line we’re very poor before I came across this video. 👍👍👍
Great video! Thanks for the easy-to-follow tips. One improvement to this video that is fairly obvious but would help beginners like me, is to mention at the end of the video how to dismantle the knot.
Thank you for the tutorial. I watched and then practiced using a shoelace. It took me a couple of tries but I got it down!!! I'm so proud of myself.....hahaha
Walid Feghali It's definitely a useful knot. Glad to hear you feel similarly...Now if it were only that easy to get tight lines while fishing... ;) - Chris
***** I use the other way if I know that I won't have to untie it, but making it easier to undo can definitely be a benefit. Thanks for watching Andy. - Chris
Perfect instruction, visual and application. Quick, to the point and easy to remember. Will be using this to stake out hammock tarp in diamond configuration with a ridge line.
Great question; would love to know as well. Trying this knot for a palm tree that’s been tilting in the wind. I had the same thought about extra loops but was worried it might interfere with the integrity of the knot
@@AndrewMarinoOfficial From my trying out things, it seems up to six loops is more friction, after that it starts to overlap on itself, and not work very well. Now, that may vary with line diameter, but with the small stuff I'm using during camping, that's been working for me.
Hmm, I always use a Prussic to accomplish the same thing. More permanent perhaps without the "self-destruct" quick-release, but I imagine you could tie this without that.
this doesn't seem to hold any weight with the string I'm using, but a taut line holds at least a few pounds before slipping. I might have messed up though. either way thanks
You should REALY have zoomed in on this, most of the screen is grass, the knot is a tiny bit. Even your entire HANDS cover about 1/3 of the screen never mind the actual knot!
I see your point, I had to go full screen on a large monitor to try and see what he was doing. I worked it out but I could never imagine trying to view this on a phone. I mean the knot is a tiny part of a huge area that is mostly grass.

Another extremely useful video Chris. You should call this knot the Improved Taut Line Hitch. Genius.
+Survival On Purpose Glad you like it Bryan! Thanks for the name idea too! :) - Chris
It’s already got a name. Adjustable Grip Hitch. But great knot to know for sure. GreT demonstration
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. I am busy planting trees and staking them. This is the knot I need.
the most useful videos on youtube are the ones under 2 minutes.
Awesome. Works great! I love that you can explain it in less than 2 minutes!
I'll never forget how to tie this knot, thank you so much!

Excellent , quick easy to follow be using this at the weekend 👍
Best version of this knot I’ve seen, and am very happy I saw your tutorial exactly when I needed it to secure my canopy as winds were building.
Probably the easiest guyline knot tutorial I have seen thus far.
Perfect knot for the job. Everybody should know this one. Much easier than the way I've always done it and easy to untie.
My 1st attempt was an abomination. But my 2nd attempt has my rv awning shade nice and taut. Easy and effective knot. Thank you for the instruction.
Thank you for the tutorial. I watched and then practiced using a shoelace. It took me a couple of tries but I got it down!!! I'm so proud of myself.....hahaha
Love this knot! Use it all the time. Especially for my ridge line to suspend the tarpaulin and keep it taut. :)
Walid Feghali It's definitely a useful knot. Glad to hear you feel similarly...Now if it were only that easy to get tight lines while fishing... ;) - Chris
Sierra Trading Post Haha! Yeah that's not the easiest task!
Brilliant thanks. So simple even I could learn it
Aka adjustable grip hitch. Reputed to possibly be the most useful knot ever. I love this knot. TRY IT!
Brilliant idea with the quick release. I've used the other way but never with the quick release. 2 thumbs up!
-Andy

Great, just what I was looking for. Communicated well and worked well!
Thank you so much for the super easy tutorial! You are a lifesaver.
Best video for this knot. THANK YOU!!!!!
Clear and easy video, thank you
holy cow- great knot, SO easy!! thanks for the very clear video demo!
Thank you for the clear and simple instruction! That is a great knot for my tent and tarp guy lines, to make them tight.
Oddly enough, I used this same knot to hang a clothes line at the beach house today. Good tip.
Charles Hollow Nice! That's another great use for it. Thanks for watching Charles. - Chris
At a summer camp in NC that I worked at, we called this a cheerio knot. easier for the kids to remember the name that way haha
Right to the point , great camera angle and descriptions
Great video describing a great knot; thank you!
Great a new knot to try out. Will give a go next outing. Thanks
Nature Calls Glad you like it Bruce. Very cool adjustable ridgeline video on your channel by the way! :) - Chris
Love that knot - the adjustable grip hitch
Perfect instruction, visual and application. Quick, to the point and easy to remember. Will be using this to stake out hammock tarp in diamond configuration with a ridge line.
Great, easy to understand, directions
I assume that, like a Prusik, more loops inside increases friction? Just curious if that helps for wet lines

Thanks so much for this video, it helped me out a lot 👍xxx
Love this knot. Used it w/o any problems so far.
It's a great knot. Quick to tie, strong, and easy to adjust or undo. Glad it has worked well for you Anthony! :) - Chris
thank you Chris. This video had what I needed..
Great knot. Great demo.
Now that's a GREAT tip. Thanks!
mobiltec Glad you like it! Thanks for watching. :) - Chris

This seems to be a kind of riff on the Taut Line Hitch.
I'll have to give it a whirl.
Thanks
pompuswindbag It's very similar. Try it out and let us know what you think. Thanks! :) - Chris
You make it look so easy.
A quick and useful know. Thanks for the tip! 😁
I've heard it described as the "Crosley". Simpler and quicker than the formal taut line.
I love knots! Thanks Chris!
featheredprop They're great aren't they. You can never know too many knots. Thanks for watching Dane! - Chris
Awesome knot! Wish I had known that one last time I was tarp tenting ^_^
AZxTu Always happy to share a new knot. Happy trails! :) - Chris
Works awesome 👌
Does anyone know what this knot is called?
It's similar to a taught line hitch but I don't think it qualifies as one.
Is this knot suitable for load bearing, more specifically is it suitable for hammock suspension?
Well done...I appreciate your tutorial video.
this doesn't seem to hold any weight with the string I'm using, but a taut line holds at least a few pounds before slipping. I might have messed up though. either way thanks
Very nice. Thanks
Thank you!
GREAT information!!
Great advice for when you lose your tensioner or it breaks.
How is this better than a taut line hitch?
what is this knot called?
Perfect
Perfect! Thanks.
Awesome!! Thanks!
Excellent
OK in nice weather - not so great to tie in a storm with freezing hands and icy line...

Not helpful, too quick, too small.

I couldn’t follow this for shit
