I saw Skynyrd a couple weeks ago at Red Rocks, and I saw Marshall Tucker in Ocean City this summer. Videos from both concerts are available on my RUclips channel.
Saw the Greensboro show Saturday night. Awesome is all I can saw. Then the tribute, that was so overwhelming for me. Just proves to the nah sayers that LS is a truly All American Band and the respect fir the military, first responders they get a BravoZulu because I think that was a SierraHotel thing to do. Great call guys.
Allow me to clear up some misinformation here. After reading some of the post here, it has come to my attention that some people have no clue what a cover band is. A cover band for a lack of a better term, is a band WITHOUT ANY ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS who ONLY SING/COVER what an ORIGINAL BAND/MUSIC/SONGS originally were done by the said ORIGINAL BAND. Since Gary Rossington IS AN ORIGINAL BAND MEMBER OF LYNYRD SKYNYRD this version of the band does NOT QUALIFY as a cover band. Plus, this band STILL MAKES NEW MUSIC & they also perform that NEW MUSIC on stage when they tour, along with some of the older Skynyrd classics. Try & picture Guns N Roses releasing a new cd but not singing Welcome to the jungle, & yes GNR does NOT have all the original members in the band. Or try & picture Kiss having a new cd out & NOT singing Beth, or Shout it out loud during a concert, & yes Kiss also does NOT have all the original members either. Or picture AC/DC having out a new cd and not singing Hells Bells during a concert & yes, AC/DC also does NOT have all original band members. Hell, they don't even have the original singer Bon Scott as he died years ago. And I could go on & on but I won't. Point is, as long as you have at least ONE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBER in a band & as long as that said band continues to make NEW MUSIC & continues to perform the NEW MUSIC on stage along with some of the older stuff, they are NOT a cover band. Cover bands don't make NEW MUSIC they cover only the original music, hence the name cover band. You may not like it, but I don't care, because that's just the way it is. I'm not saying this band is or isn't Lynyrd Skynyrd, I'll let the children argue among themselves on that one, all I'm saying is, as long as a band even with just ONE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBER LEFT, continues making NEW MUSIC/CDs & continues performing the said NEW MUSIC on stage along with the older original stuff, they are NOT a cover band. And I'm not taking sides one way or the other about the name of a band, just informing the ill advised on what constitutes as what IS & what's NOT considered a cover band. And for those who don't like it, I don't care. You can remain stupid then.

And seeing how the band Gary has, still puts out NEW material & since they DO perform it on stage along with some of the older well known classics, the band Gary has is not a "cover band." If that were the case, no NEW music or NEW cds would be released & also if that were the case, GNR, AC/DC, Kiss, the Eagles, & a whole host of other bands would ALL be considered cover bands because lets face it, none of those bands I just mentioned still have ALL the original band members either. And myself, I won't take sides. And besides, any music fan who's ever gone to a concert especially AFTER a NEW cd's released can tell ya, the band will do about half of the NEW cd & the rest of the concert will be some of the bands older material or otherwise that would be one short ass concert. lol It's Rock N Roll so just enjoy the music!!! Just saying.

And for the record, even this lineup without Gary in it, still doesn't qualify as a tribute band because Gary had some health issues so that other feller simply filled in for a spell. last time i saw them it was a farewell tour i guess the promoters want $. i thought they were boring in concert im sure the original band was much better.
Let me say this... I've seen Skynyrd north of 15 times live. The last 3 shows I've been to seem heavily "choreographed". Be honest, it just appears that the band no longer enjoys playing the old music. Who could blame them. As much as I love the songs, I don't even listen to the "hits" anymore. They're heavily overplayed. Skynyrd has a very large body of INCREDIBLE songs that get no stage time. I'd respect the band moving on at this point and enjoying retirement. I'll remember the great shows.
Gary is an original member who is still playing with them , just recovering from major surgery for the time being. And I would much rather have a “tribute band” than nothing.
