  • Today I do a walk around the Mack F785 and the Oliver 2155, start and run both and then unload the tractor.

    When I was a kid neighbors had a 2150 4whl drive and traded it in for a 2155 4whl drive. Cool old tractors! Thanks for taking us along!

      Sounds like your neighbours had some cool tractors too mate, a 2150 and a 2-155 were a similar tractor, with about 10 years between them. Thanks for watching mate 🙏🏻

    That’s the identical truck i purchased early 70s and regularly grossed 100t (sometimes more) between Adelaide and Darwin. In the 12 years I owned it never let me down

      Thanks Steve it would’ve been a steady trip with that sort of weight but in the mid to late 70s the 237 would’ve still held its own on the north road

    Best truck exhaust note I've ever heard was from a couple of 8-wheeler FR700 tippers, each with the cool power 285 (twin air scoops up and over the cab) and a straight-through single 5" stack with curved tip directly behind the cab on the passenger's side. Equal parts turbo whistle and velvet purr. You could hear them coming from a long way away, and still hear them clearly as they disappeared up the road.

      The Mack 6 cylinders do have a nice bark, and when you add the tip turbine fan whistle of a Coolpower, it’s hard to beat. Thanks for sharing your story mate, I could picture it as I was reading it.

    I drove it when it was a tow truck owned by Adams towing Gosford. I have moved to Ariah Park , I could have a photo or two.

      Fair dinkum? That’s amazing. Ariah Park is only a couple of hours from home. It still has an Adam’s Towing sticker in it, as well as a list in a pocket of the inside sun visor with phone numbers of the office, drivers and other contacts around Gosford

      I’m in southern New South Wales, about an hour north of the Victorian border. It’s a good farming area with good rainfall, and good undulation. It’s a nice part of the world, I’m trying to make it nicer by collecting a bit of old gear to store around my place!

    Interested to note that it had silver bulldogs all around, where Maxidyne's of that period usually had gold coloured dogs.

    • @oldrigsdownunder7301
      @oldrigsdownunder7301  Год назад +1

      You are right. The bulldog on the front looks like it was gold once, but has lost its colour. I replaced the half dogs on the doors with chrome ones I had at the time. I didn’t even think of putting gold ones on there to be honest. I might have to do that.

    One of the best engines Mack made was the 237 million miles or better she’s a rough rider

    • @oldrigsdownunder7301
      @oldrigsdownunder7301  Год назад

      That’s absolutely true Eddie. They were a fantastic engine, and were probably copied by most manufacturers for their torque characteristics. They punch above their weight and can still get the job done now.

      It’s a stone guard, they were fitted to quite a few Australian trucks

  • @eddieweigel9490
    @eddieweigel9490 Год назад +1

    The Mack’s I drove dumpers mixers and packer trucks had a mud stick 2nd stick H L Reverse you had 5 spd’s in reverse you couldn’t split the 5 on the main cause they were to close didn’t make sense going forward

    • @oldrigsdownunder7301
      @oldrigsdownunder7301  Год назад +1

      That style of 6 speed was the most common here in Australia Eddie. Theoretically there was 10 gears to choose from but the ratios were so close it wasn’t practical to split them.
