I once met Jari's father at Ensiferum's concert at Tavastia, Helsinki. I remember him being quite funny guy, bought beers to me and my friend. And Jari looks so much like his father.
This whole Forest Season album is very personal to Jari. He is dealing grief for his fathers passing especially Loneliness (winter) and Eternal Darkness (autumn). These two songs are really great and also they kind of gives really good perspective how these seasons are in northern world.
Yep. Montana isn't quite as far north as Finland but we have all 4 seasons here. We still have snow on the ground right now and last year we had snow into April.
I've recently become obsessed by Wintersun, and now especially the whole Forest Seasons score in whole. I went to the city center earlier today and instead of the 25 minute train ride from the suburbs I chose the bus, simply because it takes a little longer, just the right time to be able to listen to all the 4 songs. I have no clue why I suddenly like the Eternal Darkness best for me, but it must be something that comes back in my life decades ago. I may be just critical, angry to myself for my obvious mistakes in life.
Haven't read all the replies to your previous Time video, where you asked for more Wintersun. I'd expect there to be the other two rehearsal clips, and I don't know if you've been suggested to do the Forest Seasons as whole, one by one. In total it's heavier, but beautifully done. If I'm not wrong you'll enjoy it.
Eternal Darkness is such a sneaky fav, innit? I initially wasn't too much into it only to suddenly discover I keep coming back to this particular track every single time I do cardio or take the doggo for a walk. So much rage in that one, it just keeps you going.
one of the great songs about loss and the difficulty of moving on. Winter can be harsh but snow can be cleansing as it erases all traces of what was before...allowing the new growth to shoot through unimpeded by the past yet building on the foundation that was set in the past.
When this album came out i was waking up at 6am for university and walking alongside the forest uphill where my faculty was. When it was cold and foggy, this album and especially this song is elevated to a new level it's almost a spiritual experience. You hear the birds, feel the cold and there's nobody around, such an awesome album and it reminds me of the great scenery. Glad you liked the song, Jari is a true talent, his songwriting, guitar playing, cleans, growls, everything is perfect.
Beautiful dark and haunting ballad about loss and death. It's the perfect description of the winter season too. Jari has done his best vocal performance on this track. Love the whole forest season record. Only flaw are the drumms, they are computer programmed. Kai Hatho had no time because of nightwish.
Lovely, lovely reaction guys! Yes, Written after Jari's father's passing. I enjoy some other Wintersun songs more (Time) but this one really hits me emotionally. It perfectly captures the pain of loss as well as the quiet and emptiness of winter. I grew up in Northern Vermont close to the Canadian border and spent many hours playing in the woods in the middle of winter and there is no other silence and solitude like that, so this really hits home. Another piece of music that is similar but not as melancholy is Nightwish's Quiet as the Snow movement from All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World. Highly recommend you guys check that out as it perfectly captures that same silence and solitude. The whole piece is Disc 2, the Nature part of Human Nature. 30 minute orchestral piece that really shows Tuomas's compositional genius. Use the Sensei Music Video that perfectly matches visuals to the music and is blessed by the band.
When done properly like here, harsh vocals are the only thing in music that gets me to tear up. All the bottled up emotions get triggered and released. Unbelievable majesty...
That is, my friends, my all time favorite song, EXCEPT the song it succeeded in the album: Eternal Darkness (Autumn). That one is somehow even more masterful, but it's totally different and apparently quite divisive. Some fans dislike it, some love it. If you're into black metal, please check it out.
So melancholic, so emotional, so sad, so powerful. And then we get hopeful. "I'm finally home" 🤘🤘
"Am I finally home"
And one day when everything is gone
The trail in the snow disappears, Am I finally home...

That’s an awesome story! Your lucky to have met so many legends!

Yes, great album, but IMO Eternal Darkness is above other songs, so dark, so heavy.

I love the beauty of this balad. I go to sleep to it, I love the melancholy and the mood it puts me into.

Thank you so much!!
A lot don't comprehend the musical genius you need to be too compose something like this, only a few people around the world can do this.
Full of emotions in this song...
You both are beautiful. You have a fan from Syria. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!!

From debut album, well every track, but Battle Against Time would be nice!
MASTERPIECE 🇫🇮🇸🇪
You should check out Jari's previous band Ensiferum. "Battle Song", "Windrider".
