That's normal thing to happen with SSDs, especially cheaper ones. Something called SLC cache gets filled in, which results in slower writs speeds after it gets full. You also need to consider DRAM cache, which helps with write speeds in long run. Lastly, SSDs controller can get hot if not cooled properly therefore controller will limit speeds in order to keep itself cool enough, preventing it from overheating.

I guess he spent all his money on Apple products and has none left for quality peripherals

His first mistake was trying this "complex" task on an Apple product. Apple computers are 2000 dollar Facebook screens.

    Three things bro:
    1. It is almost certainly equipped with QLC memory (you go read about it)
    2. It likely lacks a DRAM cache, which means you can expect reduced speeds.
    3. The absence of a heat sink could lead to significant performance throttling due to overheating.

Maybe the issue lies with enclosure most of the time a external storage fail is because of faulty cable or enclosure itself but it's still a possibility that ssd got damaged

    >In fact, the HOT controller chip is labelled SM2263ENG, which leads me to believe it's an ENGineering sample, not necessarily ready for primetime!
No it's not, the same -ENG controller can be found on the Crucial P1.

did you check if the file was actually being copied? (could have been a fake size thing)

Filled the SSD with vid files...everything I checked worked.

are the NAND chips overheating? i had something similar happened - i ended up placing my laptop and nvme in a -5c freezer (i work in a lab) to keep the nands cool to get my data out

The flash gets warm. The controller gets HOT. Reading is not a problem. Just writing. Also, if I run Blackmagic speedtest, it maintains >400 MB R&W. I guess the 50% write duty cycle reduces heating enough!

Maybe the Cache is full and it has to Copy directly to the NAND flash wich could be slow If the Nand flash isnt high quality. But maybe ITS Just broken

      >30 GB cache? No. Define BROKEN. Chip overheats and slows to a crawl...arguably broken. Might work with a really good heatsink...
