  • Is there magic outside of Hogwarts? The Chinese boldly answer - yes, offering a couple of thousand fast SSDs for a dozen terabytes with any stickers to choose from. But what lies behind the fake Samsung and Kingston? How to determine that the capacities of such drives are overestimated by an order of magnitude? How to explain to AliExpress correctly that Xiaomi and WD never released these SSDs? We tell the whole ins and outs of Chinese rice and flash.

i saw one of those "factories" in China few years ago. A friend working there said that apparently only about 10-30% of customers ask for a refund and since they are selling garbage(bought from major manufacturers the cheapest (grade c or worse = garbage) in wholesale) they would still make profit even if 90% of customers had to be refunded. biggest problem is that platforms(like ali mentioned in this video) keep shutting them down and they have to keep reopening new sellers accounts. There is a minimal risk of being busted by authorities but from his experience hes only ever heard of a few of these busts/raids in over a dozen years. So unless something changes i would not expect this problem to go away anytime soon - so just use your common sense(too good to be true rule) and make sure to buy wherever you can ask for a refund from a platform itself and not only from a seller(they might be gone by then with new name/account open)

It's sad to see what Mikael tells us, that there isn't any good Software which could unveil the real capacity of a fake SSD, because I"ve known that there's a software imbedded in the device which simmulates those terabytes, cheating any and every benching software, which check it as a good and faithful device.
Then he says that we could find a Script or a Link in the Description that could do the job, but I couldn't find that. I went to his Profile, but there's nothing about that there too. Does anybody know something about that?

So I made the mistake of buying a 2T SSD for 12.00 or so. When I got the drive it looked nice and actually reported to windows as a 2T SSD. However when I tried to copy 200gb of music files to it it was very slow 1-5 mb or even slower. I tried a quick reformat of the drive and this seemed to work but I had the same issue. I then tried a deep format. This whipped out the drive completely and windows no longer could see it. Even using disk manager.
so I opened a dispute with the aliexpress. The seller or Ali sent me a return label with shipping paid. they said this was a one time discount of 7.99. I tried to talk to the seller but that portion of their site is under construction. So I packaged the drive up and put the label on it. It's going back to New Jersey. We will see if I ever get a refund. Unfortunately I ordered two 2TB flash sticks for 5.00/each that have yet to arrive. I'm sure they will have similar issues. I've purchased some fun stuff from Aliexpress but you have to be careful

Why would you pay £25 for a 16gb portable ssd when you can buy a 16gb USB3 flash drive for less than £5 from Scan which is reliable seller in the UK?

Too easy I wont buy anything off AliExpress just for that reason and the Company knows full well a lot of what stock from vendors is fake. Typical Chinese attitude towards their customers

Is NVme or Sata SSDs disks are usable if I format them with disk part with disk part for only volume of 100 GB? Therre is an article that you can do it with USB drives in article "AIDA64 - How to detect the real capacity of storage devices with AIDA64".

Assume everything you buy on aliexpress ...temu etc is questionable and dont pay large amounts as noonebis going to ship back to china...that said i did get allot of cool stuff on temu ...that which would sell for dollars more on amazon. Its how much risk your willing to take.High priced items only buy from vendor with reasonable return policy
