    FYI him saying "your car will blow up if you try downshift to lower gears going 100mph" is incorrect, possibly he has an ECU tune but semi automatic cars like the one he is driving will NOT let you downshift to gears that would exceed MAX rpm for the gear and cause catastrophic damage, basically said = your car will NOT let you destroy it with fast, high RPM downshifts to lower gears, it essentially locks lower gears that would cause damage if shifted to going fast. Nice vid tho!

      I can confirm this. Even in my 2009 w204 c class it won't allow you. At low speeds you can shift to 1st or 2nd gear, but at 100+ kph it won't drop below 3

      He said to shift in lower rpm when cruising and to shift at a higher rpm when racing. But why can’t I shift in a higher rpm when cruising ? I have a b58 and the redline is at 7k. Supposedly shifting near the redline won’t damage anything . But is it safe to to push it to 6k rpm while pushing 60-70% on the pedal ?

      @@shelbyhaiketic4212the ecu won’t allow you to mess anything up, it’s programmed in a way to prevent any damage, if you start to hit redline it will more than likely shift for you. Unless you got a tune to change it

It's better to use them all the time because you have alot more control, I'd prefer stick shift for sure. SMG in an e46 is horrible need to convert soon

    Alright, so let’s say I’m in 6th gear going like 60 on the freeway and someone pulls up wanting to do a 40 roll. I need to downshift and slow my car down to prep for that. Would I continue to lightly hold the gas while downshifting to 3rd or would I let off of the throttle while downshifting?
    Follow up question, if I’m already at 40 and I’m in 6th but I need to downshift to 3rd and stay at 40 would I continue to hold the throttle down while downshifting to maintain that 40 roll?
    Hopefully these questions make sense.

    • @Edwinf30
      @Edwinf30  2 года назад

      If you're not going fast (65 or less) the trans is normally cruising in 8th, you can safely downshift with the gas on, as long as you keep an eye out for the rpms, you don't want to force the car too much.
      Yeah, when you get to third, lift your foot slightly, just press it a bit, because of the low gear your car will make your cars rpms keep going up, so when you get to 40, just lightly press and it will keep the speed. (don't stay in 3rd gear so long tho)

    • @CJP97
      @CJP97 2 года назад +3

      You can also adjust your speed and hold the downshift pedal, so the car chooses the lowest possible gear.

    theres really no wrong way on driving with paddles. all you really have to do is listen to the car and it'll tell you when to shift. with bmw try to stay above 2k rpms when driving cause it'll drive rough. it does with m cars but not really sure for other bmws. when trying to go fast like on your own time for fun try not to go past 6k rpms cause if you do that every time, your wearing down the engine and trans a lot faster than you should. if your doing a drag race or a pull on the highway then you can go all the way. also when you reach 7k rpm it will auto shift in bmws
