They're slowly bringing back hand checking and good old fashion Defense
What u talking bout Willis
@@Bighjr88Have you been watching the NBA playoffs at all recently? They’re actually letting handchecking slide in most instances right now and letting a lot of contact fly. I was so surprised to see Jaden McDaniels guarding on a few possessions and using the arm bar method to guard a player backing him down and the refs didn’t call it. Real defense is coming back baby.
@@alfredoladino9838 You are to young ,for me to talk basketball to ✌🏽
They calling more soft fouls wym, Conley got 3 FT for nothing in the last quarter of game 1
Don't misinterpret the refs just missing things, it's a completely different game than the old days
They held Jokic's hands most of the time, without refs calling fouls.
After years of watching Lebron and KD try to manufacture their legacies, it feels like a dark cloud has lifted now that they're irrelevant. It's good to see the young teams breaking through and moving us to a new era.
this is so true
Agreed
Very true and thank god. KD especially has wrecked the way he’s perceived. I won’t be surprised if he demands a trade from Phoenix. He’ll be remembered as a guy that was a complete malcontent who wasn’t really happy no matter the situation.
100% agree. I watched the Wolves handle the Suns and at the conclusion of that series I thought to myself Nuggets vs Wolves may only be a conference semifinal but it is the first must see TV playoff series in years! It truly was a joy to watch and really took me back to the late 80's and 90's NBA fan experience.
Don’t forget my Knicks! They played their ass off! Love the grit of some of these new school players 💪🏽
You nailed it in your opening why people stopped watching the NBA. So many things..
I agree, but Pacers Knicks was also a good dogfight. I feel these are the best playoffs for many years.
When it was about competition - Before the LeBiogenesis entitlement super team cupcake era.
I think it can change but it’s gonna take some time.
A long time. The LeCupcake Era is like the Black Plague of the NBA.
I feel like the worst is behind, 2010-2020, the Curry Years, the Harden Years, the LeHelpMe years are ending too now he's got 1 season left before all the roids in the world aint helping anymore. We just need to ditch defensive 3 second rule and call traveling now
You're forgetting the League created LeBron looking for the next Jordan. They're still looking
Lebron went to 10 straight finals, the man is a baller.
What ring did Harden win??
Yes, yes and YES! GREAT call, like my man David here I've been checking in on the NBA here and there to see if it's watchable yet. After seeing this Video and Boston-Indy game one last night it just may be that time to regularly tune in
You're forgetting they created Jordan too@@joshportie
"Let's keep the NBA offensive..." could have just stopped there. 100% agreement with you, and I hope this trend continues and the league moves more in this direction. I would love to be won back to the NBA.
The blatant traveling violations are absolutely ABSURD 😂 3rd graders get called more for that than pros
This playoff serie leads to focus a lot on Minnesota and Edwards. This team is builded in a cool way, with great defense. If it wins NBA title, it could lead to a new wind of change in favor of more defense. The NBA have started to evolve in this way after the all star game, so why not ?
This series is also cool because the Wolves uses somme 90' like defensive stuff as double team and rim protection (Towns with help on Jokic, while lettig Gobert make the rim protection job)
Cool to see that again, and cool to see these retro stuff still working on offense and defense.
Young wolves have long teeth !
Never been a huge basketball fan. Pretty much here and there, ANTman and this Timberwolves team got me watching.
Bro I haven't been excited about the playoffs in years. This makes me happy. I'm actually trying to log in to my cable app so I can watch the WCF and ECF. This is crazy. I can't believe it
100% with you!
I agree. I lost interest in watching the NBA over the past few years too. Magic Johnson is my favorite player because of his style of play that I could relate but MJ to me is the GOAT. I love watching the NBA in those days.
Today's players are worlds better than 90's NBA. Better floor spacing, better handles, better shooting and defense is way better now. It looks like D has declined because Ant, Kyrie, Luka, Steph, LeBron, KD are unguardable.
I just found other things to do
philwilson
Not buying that 💩💩💩💩💩
@@philwilson609 if you mean by handles, palming and carrying the ball, sure! And taking 3 steps in the process.
If the Wolves win and then repeat, the rest of the league will have to follow.
you'd think so. Other GM's and Coaches are going to want to draft, sign players, scheme to defend like The Wolves did.
Dallas are also playing awesome defence.
Great Take
Totally Agree
It’s not The Same anymore
Well said. This channel is after my own heart 💪
I couldn't agree more. I had the same thoughts.
Going off the caption for the video.... It can't be like this cause player's now days don't have that drive and determination like player's did back in the day. Nobody really drives to the paint, they scared of contact and just wanna shoot 3s
Old head take
This is just not true.
If you look at the Boston Celtics they certainly rely too hard on the 3 and sometimes when they don't hit the 3 they also don't make drives which is crazy as Tatum and Brown are great at making drives. Besides that the 3pt shot is a danger that a team needs to use to create space. If the opponent knows you can't shoot 3's they will close the lane.
@@chauvintookaknee4blm268loser LeStan shill take that doesn’t bother to watch an actual game
@@draregrevtaam1147It is true. Harden lost in 2018. Minnesota just lost game 1 versus Dallas today.
I can’t wait to hear you take on the Dallas/ Minnesota series. The games have been intense!
Thanks for the video. You encapsulated how I felt about the series.
If you watch games now, the pace is so fast that everything often looks like chaos and then chucking a 3 with 15 seconds left on the clock.
A lot of players simply lack knowledge of the game. I sometimes feel sorry for the real masters like Joe Dumars and others who are kind of forgotten by modern fans.
@@airtime23I saw Game 7 of the Wolves vs Nuggets, it was just frustration. You see so much spacing, CTE and AAU ball that has no skills or pacing.
@@gambitacio Plus the lack of defensive fundamentals and effort. With all due respect to Jokic. He is sleepwalking in defense at times.
@@gambitacio Same in both game 1s so far.
@@airtime23 I thought I included that in with the lack of pacing part? But yes, defense is rarely played that even “soft defense” is seen as the second coming of the ‘04 Pistons. I agree with you on Jokic, but Jokic proved how bad the NBA has gotten because he is dominating with great fundamentals and shoddy defense.
Jokic as great as he is would be bullied by “flopper” Divac. It makes me irrationally mad when they drive but hesitate to shoot on a wide open middy.
Great video, Sean!
And THIS is why we subscribed to SD. Honest hard-nosed dynamic ball through his words and video. This is what we've missed. Now: regarding Ant-Man, look carefully at the hesitation move, the last-second side glance to see where the others are but then taking the go-ahead shot and hitting it; the sleight-of-hand dribbling; the sheer focus on shooting. Yeah, that's familiar. But then look at ONE play: how he elevated for that defensive block. Who else would do that? Yes. Mr. Jordan. Kobe too. Anthony Edwards is the Man.
Edwards on a superteam. Stop
The 90's is BACK!!! 😊
The 90ys have been the Michael Jordan of all NBA Basketball decades
Exactly. "It won't change anything"
exactly the same happened to me. I actually watched the full games from the Minnesota v Denver series and it sent me back to around the 2000s when I was genuinely engaged.
I agree w you 💯 Sean
Because the NBA prioritizes money and would rather have casual fans who buy all kinds of swag.
Asian customer they don’t play ball but buy a lot of merch
Totally agree with you
I’m with you Sean!!
Finally, a competitive basketball we all can enjoy watching.
Great video!
Agree. I remember in the early 2000’s the eastern conference had so many top defensive teams - Detroit New Jersey and Indiana. You weren’t going to the finals without being tested by these defensive minded teams.
You are on the money!
Defense is game changer.I agree with Sean
timothy from china,is here to support my man sean's work!
I LITERALLY started watching again after years away when the Minnesota vs Denver series started. I heard about Ant and had to check it out.. basketball is back.
Even during the regular season they let hands be all over Joker. I like it because they also let him use his body to bump players
...and yet, LeFraud plows over people constantly and if you touch him, it's a foul,
I can relate. Not enjoyable to watch anymore
This year's series something else
Spot on! He is the only player in recent years who got me on the edge of the seat, dominant, killer instinct and just full blooded 100% all in for the offensive and defense.
As the wise man said, anything is possible!!
100% agree...
Defense wins championships. The Wolves and Nuggets series was great just for that reason, because they were playing "the right way."
During the regular season, the Timberwolves had the best defense "only" allowing 108pts per game. When the playoffs started, suddenly many of the teams never even get into triple digits. The defense switch was suddenly turned on and that has made the playoffs more exciting and meaningful.
as a fellow old-school fan (been watching since 1969-70), i am with you 💯. that was a great series.
i think so was the knicks-pacers series, very competitive and physical, although neither of them is on the level of the wolves and nuggets. the knicks play some fierce defense, tho i don't like their iso-heavy offense. the pacers play a nice ball and player movement offense (lots of assists), but usually a porous defense.
as good as it is to see teams like the nuggets and wolves playing some better ball than has been present of late in the nba, unless the league starts evening out the offense/defense balance (in terms of rules and their enforcement), i don't think much is going to change. because it is a player-centric league now, the upcoming players have to want to play differently. the coaches don't seem to have the authority or balls to make someone like trae young play in an offense like denver's. just my stoned thoughts.... :-)
This playoffs is actually very different and its really really good
Amen.
Ant would have thrived in the 90s his mid-range is polished and he has an intensity the game hasn't seen in a very long time. He's the type of dude that says well I guess I got to close line Kurt rambis today
THIS 100%!
I agree, this was the first time I have followed basketball in a long time. It's because of Jokic, playing with a high IQ, old-school style mixed into a phenom guard-center.
Yes, indeed, SD, I grew up watching Bird and Magic. Then, I went on to loving the Bulls and Pistons. I gave up on NBA around 2010, but I am lucky to live in Denver, and things couldn't be sweeter. I lived in the Twin Cities in 2001-2004, so I hope they go on to win it.
Pump the brakes on AE being the face of the NBA. He got to win a championship before even being considered IMHO.
❤
The Dallas Mavericks vs The Thunder was also a great series.
These guys are actually playing defense!!!!! If they continue to succeed by winning games with defensive play other teams will be forced to take notice. The Denver/Minnesota series was unbelievable to watch.
facts
You need to pay attention to the Dallas Mavericks post deadline. Gritty defensive play and great offense. Great job off Jason Kidd.
The one trick pony era is fading out and I absolutely love it.
This is the first playoff series I’ve watched since Tim Duncan retired. It’s exciting to see the Wolves play hard-nosed defense and Ant doing his best MJ-impression nightly. There is hope for the NBA now that the old guard is all eliminated
5:05 Exatamundo!
... and there goes AntMan. Sorry, I really love watching Edwards play, and I saif that already last year during the World Cup!
But:
What the Mavs Team is doing right now also reminds me of the good old days. Yeah, many threes - but not only! Luka working inside, Kyrie taking it to the glass in magnificent ways, and Gafford/Lively/Jones slamming the ball - AMAZING and soooo much fun to watch! While also playing hard team defense. I really love it.
Are you just going to ignore the blatant flopping by all of Minnesota bigs
He didn’t ignore bc it isn’t happening. You mean like Joel and Jokic flopping? No man
@@redbirdrising5734 do you wanna Livestream or nah
Haha as a Minnesotan we've had such bad bball over the last 20 years I didn't even notice the state of the NBA... I'm glad we both have something to cheer for again!
This series is the first NBA games I've watched live in close to 20 years.
Same
The Fiba WC was some of the most fun I've ever had watching ball.
It was because the whole USA went why is our team acting like loser ass flopping bitches and bullied Team USA to stop embarrassing the country.😂
I also recently got back to watching the NBA roughly in the past year/year and a half, after about a dozen years of uninteresting superteams.
We can only hope they listen to us and get things back to the way it’s supposed to be
What are your thoughts on inside the NBA coming to a halt ? Love the channel btw , glad to see someone appreciates basketball history and the physical / defense era . Some guys in the league still give me hope . Antman is a dog !
my dear friend, last year like this year i skipped the season and just watched the playoffs and the refs were letting the players defend with more physicality as soos as the playoffs started, so i enjoyed last year playoffs and im enjoying a lot this year playoffs and what i have heard is that that is coming directly from the league, the order to let the players be more physical during playoffs
Much respect to your podcast I'm old school myself and I don't care what anyone say basketball is about offense and "DEFENSE" has always been exciting, especially in the paint. Now big men want to dribble ( handle the ball, and shoot 3s. Yes to see a 7-footer shoot 3 pointers in insane. Today players don't want much physical contact, without starting a physical altercation,"SORRY IT'S PART OF THE GAME", around the basket (the paint) the game now moves so if you're not in top shape you can have a heart problems. The money these players today are getting they think they own the Coach ,lol. Last on list,( THE REFS) CRAZY 🤔
Joker’s teammates failed him
2024 playoffs have been very enjoyable most of the series have been great.
DO NOT SLEEP ON THE MAVS THOUGH!
The difference between the old guys getting older and the new flock starting to rise is that one wanted to be rich/famous first and play basketball second. The other wants to play basketball first and come what may after that
Sean, welcome to the club! The wolves played like this a lot this year. Hope you enjoy watching them!
I remember when those 90s bench players average 6 pts 2 ast and 2 rebounds kill other leagues with huge numbers... that Hard was the NBA back then
That nuggets mavs series was fire and im not even a huge nba fan anymore
Mavs thunder my bad 😂
6:04 Now if we can get rid of the flagrant foul.
LeDiva era had ended.
Disappointing that he talks about how much he loves good defense and then the only guy on the wolves he talks about is Ant... That said, 100% agree that this series was amazing and was absolutely great for the NBA.
NBA is the No Box-out Association. No defence around the hoop at all.
Anthony Edwards is not Michael Jordan
Need hand checking, no 3 second rule, call travels, call offensive fouls properly, harshly penalize flopping, allow trash talk and taunting a little more 🙏
I really liked this series. I had a feeling from game one that the Timberwolves have just too much depth to lose. As great as AE is it's the big guys that carried them across the finish in game seven. Jokic is the only star on the Nuggets.
You said it: its a product, not a game.... thats the problem
loved that series, sad Nuggets did not win
As a men that watches NBA without favorites,I think that Wolves were better, but not much better. Denver missed open shots a lot and their two main players gave 69 points in game 7 and all other first and second team players combined for 21 points. So that was problem. And that Jamal and Jokic played 46 and 44 points. No bench.
I think the Mavs/Wolves series is going to 7 as well. The old guard is finally irrelevant and the tide is (thankfully) shifting.
Defense will eventually come back to the game because there will eventually be more players with a passion to win. You need to play well on both ends if you want championships
Nuggets vs Timberwolves was good defense. Mavs vs Timberwolves is defense vs defense.
bring back hand checking
If you watch the ECF you will be disappointed. Offense only
The series between nuggets and Timberwolves "I LOVED IT ". GAMES OF PAST GOT TIRED OF WATCHING HALF THE TEAM JUST STANDING AROUND AND WATCHING ONE PERSON SHOOT AND NOBODY'S GOING FOR OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS CRAZY
The other team not being able to roll the ball to mid court without any opposition is pretty good to watch, not gonna lie.
Ok, so it wasn't just me then.
Anthony Edwards is lebron james 😅
Why? No Lebron, Curry Durant, Harden, etc.
Antman the most viewed player he is the face and cooked them nuggets game 7 he was off but he killed it on defnece.
