night on the tiles no fences, no cameras, tickets from Persil, great times, as long as idiots kept blades and the sort away. Fists and feet, never need for a blade.
Yeah, the casuals well dressed look and neat haircuts totally foiled the bizzies in those days. They were still focusing on skinheads or archetypal bovver boys decked out in club colours.
I can remember when Pompey turned up at Valley Parade sometime in the late 70's/early 80's. Never seen as many hardcore lunatics before or since, I was only about ten years old, but it's a really vivid memory.
grizcuz don’t worry they’re all gone now. I’m a Pompey fan but this is terrible. People say “oh there’s still a minority of fans who are hooligans” but no, no one is anymore. This really tarnishes pompey’s reputation and annoys me
@@dublinsfaircity Nobody's going to beat up a ten year old, so I had no reason to be scared. Been going to football since I was 5, so I saw my fair share of footie violence from the mid 70's onwards. Pompey fans were practically all skinheads, with rolled up jeans and Dr Marten's boots. They looked particularly intimidating. Valley Parade's terrace was made out of crumbling concrete and missiles were indiscriminate. So my older cousins put me in the seats to keep me from getting hit when the away fans were known to be a bit lively.
@@grizcuz Yea but weren't a lot of football firms skinheads back then? It was a dangerous time on the terraces, no doubt, so perhaps you were taking a risk as a 10 year old. Who have been thebest/worst mobs you've seen (as a man not a kid)
@@dublinsfaircity I'd never seen that many skinheads all at the same time before then. Think that's what made an impression. When Man Utd came to Bradford in the Prem, that was a seriously impressive amount of lads. Leeds have a lot of people following them from all over the country. But Bradford is a lot bigger place than people realise a lot of time. So lads will turn up thinking it's going to be somewhere like Doncaster or Rotherham, so not much to worry about. Only to find out that we could turn out a few hundred for a big game. Aberdeen (with some Spurs tagging along) won't underestimate Bradford again after we played them pre season once. It was a bit of a laugh when I was a daft teenager. But there's nothing worse than seeing people in their 40's/50's/60's still acting like it's 1983 in 2020. The police are so on top these days that anyone stupid enough to do something foolish these days and they end up in court more often than not. Back in the 70's and 80's if you got a bit rowdy at the game, if you weren't arrested on the day then more often than not you got away with it. Once they started employing football intelligence officers, kicking people's doors in at 6am and locking lads up for 2/3 years it calmed down a lot.
Fred Dineage is a Pompey fan. I remember about 1978 or 79 Portsmouth were away v Reading and for some reason loads of Pompey fans hitched through Aldershot, Fleet, Hartley Witney on route to Reading leaving PFC sprayed everywhere. Pompey fans always got on with Aldershot-maybe because Bordon had a strong Pompey/Shots following and Aldershot weren't any hassle to anyone-though you might have thought so due to some incidents like v Bradford or Sheffield, but that was Pompey fans coming to sort out old feuds. The last time they came to Aldershot for hassle was about 2005 when Carlisle played at the Rec. Shot fans kept well out of it-nothing to do with us. Cant imagine them being bothered with any of the teams we're up against now, but Bordon people still come

Brighton and Bournemouth, and that's about it. As far as mouthy youtube accounts go, I guess Soton are taking the lead with the ''We did over Millwall around Bermondsey'' comments.
I lived in Portsmouth for 14 years, rough and a dump. Used to be a right dust-up when Southampton turned up but it was only now and then as they were always top division and pompey only once in '87 got promoted and then relegated that year. I was an Everton fan and we did them home and away that season, got 2 right kickings at school, but hey we won the league! I take more than a few cuts and bruises to see us do it again
