    I remember meeting Tatiana at a summer gymnastics camp in 1996 (or maybe it was '97). I was around 12 years old at that time. She was very sweet and authentic when she talked to us about her experiences, but she also seemed a little overwhelmed with the newness of being in the U.S (kind of a "deer-in-the-headlights" look!). I'm happy to see her in this interview, 20 years later, so eloquent and self-assured.

    Years before Tatiana's appearance in the Olympic's I was a follower of the games. Still a boy, 14, when she came on the scene I fell in love. This here, hearing her, has me crushing again.
    This US supporter was 100% believing in you in 92' Barcelona. You performed majestically.

    Never watch gymnastic before 1992. Until I saw Gutsu in Barcelona with her high risk routine. I got hook.

    I remember her winning back then and no she should not be ashamed of what she was able to achieve. She won. What it boils down to is, when her defining moment came, she was ready... and she won a Gold Medal. I would be very proud of that also, and would not concede one inch.

    Let's not hate on Tatiana. She won the Gold Medal at the All Around Barcelona Games and that is final and should be respected. Yes it was a very close call and I also felt Shannon should had won. She only beat Shannon with a .012 margin which is the closest margin in Gymnastics History. But the judges voted for Tatiana and we should just accept and respect that. But Shannon had a bigger career in Gymnastics after the Barcelona Games. She was the 2 time World Champion back to back in 1993 and 1994 and won 2 Golds on 1996 Atlanta Games.

      It is only Miller fanatics who are one of the craziest groups on the planet who hate on her. A bunch of losers and hobos and retards.

      @@richardross4677 OK.. Irrelevant. I just stated that this comment was accurate and spot on.. But clearly, your feelings and Dustin's are bigger than y'alls logic. Ha. Funny. You have poor etiquette and zero class for wishing misfortunes on others.

      Tatiana didn't even qualify for finals as she fell on the beam in the qualifying round.
      Then, she replaced a team mate who was forced to fake a knee injury. (And I admire Tatiana greatly. But this was an outrage.)

    I really love her and I know she had to do what the coaches told her to do by poor Rosa Galyeva got screwed from competing in the AA in ‘92.

    Im pretty sure if the scoring system was like now, Tatiana would have done a DTY on vault, her floor and beam would have outscored everyone, she was great on bars, but I think Shannon had more difficulty, but even someone like Lysenko might have outscored the Americans and Bogi wouldn't have been a factor.

  • @LDVTennis
    @LDVTennis 8 лет назад +4

    Gusto was an "artistic" gymnastic in the true sense. Though I much preferred her teammate Lysenko, I can see why the judges thought she was much better that day than Miller or Lysenko.

    • @matthewhines9787
      @matthewhines9787 7 лет назад

      Really? She was terrific with a lot of great qualities, but I would definitely say Miller was more artistic. Milo was actually IMO the best that day though.

    • @shushunovafan4301
      @shushunovafan4301 7 лет назад +1

      Miller was more artistic but if you put Gutsu's routine up against the rest of the world today, she is still more artistically appealing than almost all of them. Milo had the least errors but just didn't have the difficulty on beam to compete.

    • @rolandgreen7484
      @rolandgreen7484 6 лет назад

      Milo had the least errors? That is debateable. She took a giant hop on her beam dismount and had a visible balance break on the full turn and didnt stick her bars dismount (which both Gutsu and Miller did). I would say she had atleast equal errors to Miller and less than Gutsu, but I still had her beating Miller as her floor is so superior (even if both hit, and Miller had a mistake too).

    The interviewer needs training, “alrighty” after every answer sounds so dismissive

  • @brainwave7632

    Woooow.... This interview is so shady. Especially when she was asked about poor Roza Galiyeva. Roza got screwed hard and apparently Tatiana doesn't feel a way about it. So messed up. "It's a professional decision..." I hope Roza went on to have a wonderful life and found it in her heart to forgive this chick.

    • @pappysprite
      @pappysprite 8 лет назад +14

      Brainwave 76 Gutsu was a little girl herself and had nothing and I mean absolutely nothing to do with that decision. It's absurd to even insinuate she made the decision or should feel bad personally about it. You can blame the coaches but you can't blame her.

      She was a little girl then. But not in this video.

    • @pappysprite
      @pappysprite 8 лет назад +3

      ...and? She is supposed to feel guilty for a decision she didn't make? Or years later feel that way? I'm sorry if you think she comes across as not caring, but in other interviews she clearly states she felt sorry for Roza and it wasn't her decision. In the end, she was the right gymnast for the job. Roza had no chance at an all around medal at that time in her career. Why hate? What's done is done and Tatiana isn't to blame nor should she be made to feel bad for winning the all-around. Tatiana should be celebrated for her daredevil skills that were significantly ahead of the time. Her beam routine based on the 2016 code of points would still be a medal contender. That's how great she was.

      At the end of the day she could have chose not to do it. Roza has reason to feel salty.

    • @pappysprite
      @pappysprite 8 лет назад +9

      No way! She was 15 years old and was told when to eat, when to sleep, and when to train more than half her life. No offense, but your comment is ridiculous. Her family came from nothing and lived in a one bedroom apartment. She had the weight of the world on her shoulders. Do you think for one second mother Russia would say "okay if you don't want to compete, we are fine with that'. Get real.

  • @cf4880
    @cf4880 7 лет назад +1

    NOt exactly modest, is she? she earned the success but geez, at least be a little more grateful to the girl whose spot you were gifted. and she got lucky again when she supposedly beat shannon. u can't fault her for either of those things, but she could get some humility in the mix. maybe she hasn't learned that yet.

    • @rolandgreen7484
      @rolandgreen7484 6 лет назад +3

      When she supposably beat Shannon, ROTFL!! You nutty Miller fanatics. I could say Miller's 2 AA titles were a joke where she supposably beat Gogean and Lysenko in 93, and supposably beat Milo and Dina in 94, who both deserved to beat her both times. And replacing weaker gymnasts who only made it since you fell or hard a huge error was normal then and happened all the time, crazy Miller fanatics are the only ones who try to make people care. I doubt you were crying for Mostepanova when she was pulled from the 85 world AA and Omelienchek and Shushunova, neither who qualified, tied for gold.

  • @MissScarlett27

    I'm sorry Tatiana, you were great, but everyone who knows knows Shannon really won the gold and was robbed.

    • @pappysprite
      @pappysprite 8 лет назад +16

      MissScarlett27 Everyone doesn't believe that. You're entitled to your opinion, but clearly the international judges didn't see it that way. At this point, it's rather insulting to make that statement.

    • @juanantoniomoreno3409

      Shannon was robbed not by Gutsu but by the New Life rule.

    • @pappysprite
      @pappysprite 7 лет назад

      I totally agree with you Juan. The new life rule was horrible and compulsaries should never have been taken away. It is the foundation of good gymnastics.

    • @daytripperhd

      She was just a child at the time who worked hard and won. She didn't make the rules and now you want to take that away from her?
