The phantom was my hero growing up. and it was because of the characters unbeleiiveable amount of strength and mystery Pay attention to the story next time.
Oh I agree the Phantom truly loved Christine, that was clear from reading both the book, and the musical is he was in love with her. But the Phantom was also a dark character, he didn't know how to express love, and how could he all he's known is hatred and violence. That's the main message is learning how to express love for someone in a good way, the reason he let Christine go at the end of POTO was b/c he realized he wasn't expressing love in a good way. That being said, I'm perfectly with the Phantom not being as dark in Love Never Dies, I hear that being the main complaint, but I feel those fans gloss over what happened at the end of POTO, he lets Raoul go, he lets Christine go he stops killing, he still has a temper in Love Never Dies but he grown so he isn't going to be as dark.
But I agree, he did it all for her and considering his childhood all he knew was torment. I thought killing people was to far but RAMIN KARIMLOO! You have to love him!
it's probably annoying for us here who are watching on RUclips, but it definitely gave him more impetus to really let it rip. Never underestimate the energy of an excited crowd + their screams of appreciation and its effects on performers.
