There is a lot of stuff you have to do to get that arm bar right.
Plus that sweep gets you up and off the ground.

if you mess up the arm bar they can pass your guard in no time, if you mess up the sweep at least you won’t be in a worse position just still in guard

Arm bar is risky. If not done right, the person will get out and just pummel you with strikes and get to a better position. If the sweep fails, you are still in closed guard

Oh come on, you won't teach a beginner to armbar from the closed guard when the baddie's arms are fully extended, but you'll teach them to flower sweep?
I think you can teach the transverse hip movement way more easily than the pivot on the coronal plane.

If they mess up the arm bar they are in a way worse position. And that sweep is also a great option. Idea is just focus on sweeping them to get on top rather than focusing on armbars
