How did you take account of the ability to float? How did you measure out that it could take 2 people? Sorry for the bad English, I’m Dutch:) nice build by the way!
Hi Luckym0nk3y. I designed it with Delftship. (it's free). I wrote all about it in my newly (yesterday) published book "Small Boat Building" - www.amazon.com/dp/B07HLKZ8LQ The book is full of info on how I build this boat and wooden boats in general including a look at how you can design your own boat. The program gives you all the floatation data. Regards Tim
A very unique designed hull. Seeing all the photos makes us appreciate the complexes you had in the build. Great video, thanks for sharing. Added: not every day we get to see a man walk his boat to the water.
Great video Your son is lucky to have a father like you. I lost my dad when I was a kid. Wish I could’ve done something like this. Life is priceless live every day like it’s your last.
Looks like a great design for a water cooled motorcycle motor with an inboard layout. Motor towards bow for simplicity in shaft and seal layout. Looks like it rides great too.
Thats awesome Johnpaul! Great to hear you have built a boat with your son.. Please leave a link if you would like to share any pictures or videos of what you have made. You can also send me a message on my fledgling website timwestonboats.com too. Thanks for sharing that.. :) Tim
+Ray Pena Hi Ray! Thanks. I have built quite a few boats with this method. It is quick and makes for a light weight and rigid boat. I like your channel! You are a real inventor..
thanks Tim, i just like to tinker around the shop! I'll have to look into this method a bit more for my next project! I'm very interested in your upcoming video "flying boat"...i subscribed to see how it comes out!
Hey cheers. It looks like you are having fun with your boat though! Well done.. I'm just making a new set of plans with a few modifications to build this boat. There is more info on my website timwestonboats.com if you are interested. All the best over there in beautiful NZ!
Thank you Tom.. Thanks for subscribing. I have another boat building video just about to go up. Another step by step, on the building of a 40 foot catamaran.
Hi Adrian. If you would like plans to build this boat (almost the same) they are available now. You can have a look here timwestonboats.com/plans/plans-noosa/. There is also a blog post report on the first one being built in Brazil. Cheers Tim
I live in Caifornia and have been researching boats as i want to own one in a few years. Never thought to build one. I realize that a lot of boats are made from plywood and work fantastic. Have you considered makig one that is a little bigger? I think you would have a blast with a 3.5 meter boat.
Hi Mike. Thanks for your comment. Yes, plywood boats are great. I love working with ply I think it is a much overlooked material. Cheap, strong, rigid and easy to work with. Actually I have plans to build 3 boats in ply including this one - 3.4m long. If you are interested you can find more information here timwestonboats.com/plans/ Cheers Tim
Hi Teun. I will have almost finished putting together plans for the this boat. They should be up on the website in the next few weeks.. On timwestonboats.com/plans If you want to send and email to info@timwestonboats.com I will let you know as soon as they are ready. Thanks for your comments. Tim
Beautiful job my friend ! I'm wanting to start on a boat , so have been watching several builders . Were does one acquire the layout program ,and how costly is it ? Good job and greetings from the USA .🇺🇸
Hello Jay. Thank you. I used the CAD program delft ship to design the boat. www.delftship.net , It's free to download and use. It generates a plate layout that you can use to trace out the shape on ply and cut the panels. You can build it without a computer too, by bending the wood together and tracing and cutting. I did this on boats before, but it's a lot nicer and quicker when you can cut panels and they just fit together, perfect. Once I get organised I will have ebook with a lot more detail on the process. I will also have plans available soon for the boat too. Tim
Hi Reid. The plans for all my small boats are here www.timwestonboats.com/plans/ If you have more questions, email me at tim@timwestonboats.com. Cheers, Tim
would it be possible to build a boat with a flat floor inside? I want to take my dog with me but i am worried that he might capsize the boat if he cant stand on anything flat. My dog is a 35kg american staffy
Hi, Bex. That's a big dog... The floor needs the shape for stiffness, so extra framing is not needed. I'm sure it wouldn't worry the dog. And, even his weight shouldn't be enough to capsize, unless you are both leaning out of the boat;) Tim
Hi Tim, firstly, good work btw. just wanted to ask.. in your opinion could your most updated version of plans be altered to make a sea (medium rough) going boat probably 10' long 4' wide?
Hi Jimbo. It certainly could. I have thought already of making plans for a bigger version of this boat, or something similar. You can register now on the website, and I will keep you in the loop what is going on. timwestonboats.com Tim
Thanks, Grimori. You can build one too, if you are interested! There are plans for it here timwestonboats.com/plans/ and you can get a free building a guide, with the steps how to make it, when you subscribe to the website. Tim
+Brantley Boyd Hi Brantley. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was around 5 to 10 litres max. Probably closer to 5lt. Yes, their is something very satisfying about building a boat yourself. It's only some sheets of plywood in the beginning. In the end you have a vehicle to moves and has behaviour and it's own character.
I'm starting to want to build a little mini max hydro plane after doing some research on them. Between work and school I don't have a lot of free time right now or money but I can build a mini max out of two sheets of ply and some other wood I have laying around and I still have a good bit of fiberglass mat and cloth laying around from my last project.
hi, i was working on something similar, do you have a link to that software? i was using blender right now, but it has problem "flattening" the curved stuff into cad drawing
Nice build, a quick question though. I've never built anything using epoxy but I understood that without a topcoat/gel coat or whatever it had no protection against UV rays and would quickly break down?? Has this been your experience?
Hi Jeremy. Good question, yes it will break down, but you have plenty of time before you need to paint/varnish it. I have just published a building guide that tells you all about it in more detail. You can download it from here. timwestonboats.com/building-guide-2/ It's free. Regards Tim
Zips along pretty well for a little motor. Well done. I love the thought of building my own boat but the price of fiberglass or epoxy in Australia seem pretty expensive. Do you know a good supplier, or did you just buy locally?
Thanks. I'm not up with current prices but the more you buy the better the price/litre. Try to find the big industrial/marine suppliers if they are close. They have better prices than the local chandlers.
Hi Jacob. You could just double the dimensions and move the seats forward.. But a ply boat will certainly handle 115hp, just needs to be built to suit.. Tim
Hi Solofoe! For filleting the boat I used roughly 50/50 cab-o-sil and Q-cells, enough to get a peanut butter consistancy. For fairing the bottom, I used 100% Q-cells.. Tim
+Tim Weston Thanks for the reply! I was trying to make out what you were saying but from the southeastern United States have a different dialect and I'm not quite as savy at the fiberglass and epoxy stuff as you clearly are. nice boats thanks for sharing with the world
Hi Evan. I used Delftship for the original boat. It did the job OK. Nowadays I use Rhino 3D. You have to pay for Rhino, but you can do a lot more with it. Tim
Hi Jon. I need to make a detailed list of materials. It depends on material costs in your country, but it was probably around $500 Australian dollars without the motor. Maybe a little less..
How did you take account of the ability to float? How did you measure out that it could take 2 people? Sorry for the bad English, I’m Dutch:) nice build by the way!
Hi Luckym0nk3y. I designed it with Delftship. (it's free). Thanks, for your comment. Yes, it never fails to turn heads, walking a boat to the water :)
Great video
Your son is lucky to have a father like you. I lost my dad when I was a kid. Wish I could’ve done something like this. Life is priceless live every day like it’s your last.
Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry you lost your Dad so young. You are right, about living every day like it's your last...
Looks like a great design for a water cooled motorcycle motor with an inboard layout. Motor towards bow for simplicity in shaft and seal layout. Looks like it rides great too.
+piltdowne mann. That could be an interesting layout. The original hull with the deep centre section would work well with a shaft drive..
You guys are very talented in wood working and crafting. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thank you, Olive. It is a pleasure, sharing, I am glad you enjoyed it.
Looking forward to seeing the plans on your website. Great work Tim
+philm2012 thank you Philm.. I will let you know when they are up.. Tim
Thank you Tim and Tobias for sharing this video. Great work guys!. Your video inspired me to build one with my son. Thank you.
Thats awesome Johnpaul! Great to hear you have built a boat with your son.. Please leave a link if you would like to share any pictures or videos of what you have made. You can also send me a message on my fledgling website timwestonboats.com too. Thanks for sharing that.. :) Tim
Great father and son project.
Great job too.
Cheers to you sir !
Thanks for your comment Vic. Cheers...
This is an awesome project and having done it with.Your son means a lot to him ,future boats ahead
Thanks, JP. It was a lot of fun building...
What an awesome build!! Thanks for sharing : )
My pleasure.. Thanks Green Kitty..
very nice little boat boat. i have built a few but never a stitch and glue model. good job
+Ray Pena Hi Ray! Thanks. I have built quite a few boats with this method. It is quick and makes for a light weight and rigid boat. I like your channel! You are a real inventor..

What a great project for you and your son. Lovely to watch.
Thank you Smudge.
Very moving really, what an inspiration for the Lad.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love your dolly system, so cool! Great way to store the wheels. Glad to see the K.I.S.S. Principle at work! Good job!
Thanks, Guy! Yes, the wheels work really well.
muy bueno Tim.......me voy a hacer uno en cuanto pueda........un besazo desde España.
+Rosa Bqa Gracias Rosa. Si you need a boat. Especially in Madrid..
Love your work Tim.
Bloody great videos, love how chilled you are.
Keep it up.
I'm going to build one of your dinghys.
I'll let you know how I go
Thanks a lot, Woodsie. Appreciate your comment. 👍
WoW guys you did great mate....way way better than my build....I'm going to have to step my game up on my next build. Well done boys.
Hey cheers. It looks like you are having fun with your boat though! Well done.. I'm just making a new set of plans with a few modifications to build this boat. There is more info on my website timwestonboats.com if you are interested. All the best over there in beautiful NZ!
Great video and cool little boat. Don't matter size as long as ya on the water!
Thanks Jon. Yes, so true!
Terrific mate gave me something to think about .
+Brian Mosse. Thank you Brian.
That's a really nice boat great job
Thanks, Dallas Grimes. 👍
Tim nice job
Thank you Tom.. Thanks for subscribing. I have another boat building video just about to go up. Another step by step, on the building of a 40 foot catamaran.
I love your plans
Thanks Christian!
Hi Tim, is a very nice boat are an artist.
Greetings Luis and Rosa
+Luis Diez Many thanks Luis and Rosa. I am happy you like it..
nice build
Good job. It gets along well. I built a boat with a planing plank like that once. It takes very little power to make it fast once it's planing.
Thanks, Music Islife. Yes, you are right, it doesn't take much power to get up on the plane with these sorts of hulls.
What a great and interesting project
Thank you, Darren.
Fantastic boat
Thanks Landon!
great design!
+Frits van Doorn Thanks Frits..
Brilliant mates!
absolutely beautiful id like your boat i now want one like that thanks for sharing

parabéns foi o melhor projeto que vi na RUclips...parabéns!!!!
Obrigado Marco Antonio!
Mande as medidas pra mim...Vou tentar fazer um ...Obrigado!!
The plans are nearly ready! They will on the website in the next 1 - 2 weeks. timwestonboats.com/plans/ Regards Tim
awesome !!
Sieht aus doch gut!
Mr Jack Russel LOVES plywood vessels!
In qld australia, you need a licence and to register the boat for anything over 4 hp motor
JASON HALL in finland 20hp
Germany until 15 hp no license needed.
Very nice build by the way!
Hi Teun. I will have almost finished putting together plans for the this boat. They should be up on the website in the next few weeks.. On timwestonboats.com/plans If you want to send and email to info@timwestonboats.com I will let you know as soon as they are ready. Thanks for your comments. Tim
I'll send you an e-mail right away. Big thanks from Holland!
Great video!
Thanks for making this video
Thank you, Amy. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Great job!
Thanks Brutus!
+Brutus McGooberballs. Thanks Brutus!
+Brutus McGooberballs. Thanks Brutus!
Great build mate this would be great to take the kids in and have some fish and chips like what u did great job
Thanks MJ! Cheers. Tim
Awesome project!
Thanks, Brandon. 👍
Very practical design.👍👍
Thank you, Rozlan. 👍
That was cool I may do that
Very good!!!
Can you do a Delftship tutorial for this boat?
Nice!
cool
I would love to build one but I dont have an AU falcon
😅 🤣
Is the cooler if you used to DIY engine like a weed wacker or a leaf blower
Yes, you could! It doesn't take much power to push along.
Good on ya, great video
Thanks, Dale.
nice...
This looks amazing. Something I've always wanted to do, are there any plans available?
Yes, there will be plans available shortly, for a very reasonable price. I will let you know.. Thanks for your comment Bryce..

How much epoxy did you end up using building this boat? As many boats as I've fixed up I kinda want to build my own now.

Hi there. Sure, just google delft ship free. You can download it for free
It should fix your problem with flattening
Nice build, a quick question though.
I've never built anything using epoxy but I understood that without a topcoat/gel coat or whatever it had no protection against UV rays and would quickly break down??

Hi Tim! What boat motors would you recommend for a boat like this?
3 to 5hp is a good size, Peter.
Unde gasesc planul si schita acestei barci ! Salutari din Romania !!!
timwestonboats.com Salutări din Australia, mulțumiri. Tim 👍
Very Nice! How much did it cost?
There are only a few hundred dollars in materials for the boat. Plus the motor, Seanoo.
I like the hull design,...looks stable. ( who needs a stinkin' $90,000,000. yacht,anyway)-lol
Exactly :)
Imagine making 2 and racing them
Bacana!!!

Oh yea what do I do if I only have a 115 horse power engine and I don't want to buy a new ond
Hi Jacob. You could just double the dimensions and move the seats forward.. But a ply boat will certainly handle 115hp, just needs to be built to suit.. Tim
what is the recipe for the epoxy filler you use?

how much hp is it 2.5, something like that
+Stijn Van Aken. Hi Stijn. The motor is 3.3hp.
What is the name of the epoxy filler added to the epoxy to make the glue?
You can download my Building Guide, it's all explained in the guide. It's on my website - timwestonboats.com. It's free.
Uhhh! Cool !
Hi! What was the 3d program that you used to design the boat?
Hi Evan. I used Delftship for the original boat. It did the job OK. Nowadays I use Rhino 3D. You have to pay for Rhino, but you can do a lot more with it. Tim
@@TimWestonboats thanks a lot :)
How fast with a 3.3 merc 2 stroke
About 16 - 18 kmh.
Is that with the current motor
hi I'm in Queensland why don't you need it registered thanks
I think the regs are still the same. It depends on the horsepower of the motor. Check out Queensland transport, they will tell you the latest.
How much does this project cost you?
Hi Jon. I need to make a detailed list of materials. It depends on material costs in your country, but it was probably around $500 Australian dollars without the motor. Maybe a little less..
Tim Weston Cool thanks for the reply.
Nice1 dad😀
Thanks, Martin 👍
that is only a weekend project
1 month to build that?!?!??
Should have showed it moving on the water from outside the boat.
Yes, in hindsight. Didn't think I'd be making a movie about it back then...
Nice
