In "You and I" you can see the spider queen coming for Yoohyeon. She is the old woman that is being photographed - only to rob Yoohyeon's spirit. Also, earlier we see Dongie being pinned to the wall by needles, what is usually done to insects. For me, Yoohyeon's spirit is being pulled out here and thrown into the white dimension, which we will see again in Piri. The spider queen takes over her body, which is why we see JiU try to free Yoohyeon (without success) and grab her neck in the end. I highly recommend to check out the dance practice as well, because Dami does something very special that didn't really make it into the MV. "What" is still in my top 5 favorite title tracks. It's heavy for a Korean release and I love the syncopation in the second half of the chorus. Story-wise this is the first time they wear non-uniform outfits, which I believe is because they lost Yoohyeon (or at least her spirit) and are kind of broken. You can also see them search for her alone, not as a group. For me this is a song about the loss of a loved one and what that does to a group or family. I might be reaching, but this is the meaning for me. "Piri" is the last part of the Nightmare Arc (their Japanese release "Breaking out" can be seen as an alternative ending). In "What", the girls have been searching for Yoohyeon, and here they find each other again, but in the end they are all stuck in the white dimension. A Piri is a Korean flute that was used historically to signal danger, and that is what Yoohyeon does here when the members arrive. She is the one capturing them one by one, to rescue them and bring them to safety. They are together in the end, but still stuck. Dreamcatcher don't do happy endings. 😉
Baby Yoo and I 😋 Yoohyeon was the one who the Spider Queen took over in Fly High. Then she went around, corrupting the rest and turning them to wraiths. So she goes for her again, after all that time. And this time Yoohyeon is trapped inside the Dreamworld. In What they keep searching for Yoohyeon in the Dreamworld, but they keep missing her. In Piri, they're all trapped and alone by the Spider Queen in the Dreamworld, but in the end of the MV they come together again. In Breaking Out (Japanese song) they break the Red Strings of Fate and they meet again in the next life. (it's an east asian belief). In The Curse Of The Spider, there are many references to the Nightmare Series. The 2024 Concert Version is amazing!
Thanks for checking out more DC. Their MVs can definitely take multiple watches, like dozens, to catch all the little hints and clues that are sprinkled through out so don't worry about feeling like you missed stuff. We'll fill in blanks if you want additional information. Looking forward to what you check out next!
My suggestion for understanding Dreamcatcher's videos is to interpret them like poetry. Just get the feel. There are many different, detailed, theories about the overall story arcs -- and they all make sense to me, until I read the next one. 😊 For instance, maybe "You & I" is actually the 2nd video, coming between "Fly High" and "Chase Me". ??? To me, it's like watching the "Star Wars" movies -- just kind of go with it, and don't get too bothered by inconsistencies in the plots. ("I don't seem to remember ever owning a droid." "Do you remember your mother?" Midichlorians -- WTF?!!) 😉
Also react to :- [MV] Dreamcatcher「What-Japanese ver.-」 and [MV] Dreamcatcher「PIRI~笛を吹け~-Japanese ver.-」 Why? 1. Well it's their past Jp rels. Diff language so the tracks hit differently. 2. Both MVs were shot and cut differently. BETTER THAN THE OG TRACKS' MVs imho. In fact lol it kinda pissed me off over the years as a Somnia as to why the MV director/production decided that way but I figured that Jp demands were specific. 3. Diif fits, styles and even makeup per member. More "centers"/lines' screen times. And a more balanced group choreo shots. You'll DEFINITELY see the very significant diffs because you've just reacted to these 2 og ones. Welcome to the Dream World.
Dreamcatcher is Dreamcatcher ! Thanks.
