Im a seller who had a problem with a scammer. I was very surprised when eBay was on my side and helped me get my money back. So I guess their customer support varies.
@@dtz1000I had a laptop dumped outside my flat. It was worth at least £3000.. over a year saving for it and it was stolen from my doorstep. EBay sided with the seller cos it said "delivered" with a picture of it in on my door step. It took me 4 months to resolve it and get my money back.
I wouldn't use E-bay if they paid me. Too many horror stories of people scamming people on there.

Not really a lot you can do, if you shout they will hang up, if you threaten legal action they will just say you are subject to the terms and conditions, they have the right to kick you off.

I used to sell on ebay from '03 - '19 in the USA and from '08 on, ebay fell apart. I sold over 500,000 items and just quit because they are incompetent.
The better route is to start your own website and ween yourself off of ebay until all your sales come from your own site.

When they tell me they won’t watch a video showing proof of a scam I’ll call 100 times if I have to til someone will do their job and I’ll drive every manager crazy til they realize that they are nothing without us. I have yet to get scammed when I had video evidence because I refuse to be. Most won’t use their time because time is money. What’s right is worth a lot more than money to me. Please follow me and a few people I knows lead and don’t take the bs. Make them take your “bs” seriously no matter what it is. They work for you and you pay them alot for their services.

Indeed - I know major brand national account managers who find their key buying contact person at most of these big corporation head quarters will now be replaced every 6 months.
This is not because that buyer has been bad at their job - the companies recognise that buyers may become too favourable to a good supplier and offer better terms for better service - as you say relationships mean nothing now & they just want pure hard profit.

I had the exact same thing happened to me. It took me over a month to get it resolved and paid. And then eBay charged me an immediate payout fee on top of it… It almost feels like they’ve forgotten who’s made them their money. We aren’t people anymore. We’re just numbers and when there’s a computer glitch we pay for it,or a random audit on their end we pay for it.If we were late to pay them we’d get charged interest and penalties, but they’re late paying us. oh, well, it doesn’t matter.

Stopped selling with eBay in 2020 after being with them for a few years and will never be a seller with them again for having a similar issue.
Unfortunately eBay doesn’t care for smaller sellers and individual businesses… time and time again bad customer support for sellers and a lot of their decisions have ruined seller protection.
eBay is just too corporate to work efficiently and fairly anymore.
I hope they fix it Nic & Andrea! I quit selling on eBay 12 years ago and designed (and run) my own webshop....it's hard at the beginning but no more third party selling platforms for me. I run my business!!!!
Yeh This RUclips channel and my past experiences and high fees made me put me effort into my own site. Now do more sales on there with no fees! An i am in control not ebay's arbitrary system
I'm only a private individual and not a business, but I stopped selling on eBay when they ditched PayPal. No way are eBay getting my bank details.

@@RERTOxCRAFT, yes I believe you. It's much harder to start-up your own webshop today then 12 years ago. You have to tick all the SEO boxes for Google, it's not easy but it's possible. Keep on trying and you will get your sales.

Ebay are MAD, today I had a case go in favour of the buyer, they claimed it was not received despite tracking details supplied and picture of the item delivered. I requested eBay called me, the first call the lady said no it is in favour of the buyer, i then requested a second call because I simply could not understand why this had happened and wanted an answer and the second person reversed the decision and has given me the win on the case. This is people livelihoods, they need to start looking at these cases properly!!
This is utter madness. I feel the frustration, it's so palpable. eBay just got so big and frankly don't care. If they cared, they wouldn't allow an account with a 20+ year history going weeks without pay out. I'm sure their shareholders and CEO are still getting paid. Utter disgrace. My heart goes out to you. If this happened to me, two weeks of no pay would financially end me. Keep us updated.

I stopped selling on eBay approx 18 years ago, got fed up with daily rules changes, goalposts being moved hourly. Realised it was a dangerous business model and sold via other methods. Cannot say I miss it one bit, no longer sell or buy from them.

There’s a reason this is happening to lots of acc holders , think about it .
Both eBay and Paypal are best to call in the morning (UK Time) and you will get the Irish Call center which seems to have better access to the backroom systems and can sort stuff like this very quick in comparison to the US/Asia call centers

Was ignorant. I sold over 70 items nothing happened. It just takes that one time to really sour eBay. Provided a police report number and a ic3 before talking to CS so it was turned in my favor. To compete with Amazon and others they have to allow a return policy no matter what. Sell in person one and done
I've stop doing Ebay in January 2024 after 23 years , and now I've had nothing but emails from Ebay for free listing , % off , and the new Gov tax , basically I'm done and I'm trying to find the next best platform to sell my stuff ,

Mercari just dropped seller fees. It’s honestly not as enjoyable of an app, because of how blocky it can feel to navigate unlike eBay. But did I mention zero seller fees??

Nic, Andrea - I am not being facetious when I say this. Take them to court. I’m hoping they owe you less than £10,000. File litigation in a small claims court and let a magistrate decide. You can bring a claim against anyone and I’m confident as soon as their legal team hears about this it will be swiftly resolved.
The thing about "Court" (apart from small claims court), is that, the party with the most money - "Always Wins", eBay, simply don't care, The problem is that they have people dealing with cases like this, who would struggle to get a job with KFC !!!!

When we open our stores, we sign a contract that says that we can't sue them for anything.
Yet Ebay are still putting up their fees in April. I too was selling on Ebay for 20 years - I left 2 years ago. The way they trade is literally outside the law. It is factually un-lawful. There are enough videos' on RUclips where eBay have closed sellers accounts and they have been left snookered because all their eggs have been in one basket, their advice was to have a Plan B, backup selling options, Gumtree, FB, Esty etc.
eBay did this to me - been with them 15 years almost.-but because I hadn’t sold anything in over a year- I took a break- they held all my funds for over a week! And had to still keep sending stuff out and that money being held too! They said it was because I hadn’t sold in a while. I said so I’ve got to be penalized because I haven’t sold in a while? What is that that’s illegal!! Imagine being paid but someone illegally holds your money for some made up reason and if you don’t want a lawsuit then I suggest you release my money- eBay got their money from me- so I want my money or lawsuit is coming! It was released the next day. I hate eBay really wish someone would make a new selling platform that doesn’t gouge sellers - kind of like the early days of eBay.
Absolutely shocking! Kudos for staying calmer than I think a lot of people would be. Keep filming everything so they can see for themselves how ridiculous it is in case they find your channel. Maybe even recommend they watch it.
As long as you tell them at the start of the call that you are recording it...otherwise it may be illegal to do so.
@@keithhodgson6489GDPR rules state it is legal to record personal calls in the UK. More importantly it may still be that it's not always acceptable as admissible information in court if you didn't warn the other party first.
Don't hold your breath, from experience, most of the time, they never call back. Your first mistake is not immediately always insisting on speaking with a supervisor and don't feel afraid to ack agressively unhappy. The squeaky wheel gets the worm. It is almost impossible to find a simple representative that has enough knowledge to help. EBay hid my store from my customers....their fault....for almost 3 weeks. They ended up giving me a free store subscription for an entire year to try to make up for it.

Hi Nick we meet at the Southend eBay roadshow, I had a similar problem, I wrote to the MD who’s details I got from companies house, sent everything they asked for and sent it special delivery got a call within 24 hours from his office and matter was sorted, with your RUclips profile they may also work in your favour!
That's great but we shouldn't have to. Legitimate registered businesses who have all the relevant paperwork should sail through a verification... I'm so glad you got your issue solved.

@@NicHills yes it should... but what I see with this is the "sail through" IS what the problem actually is... it is getting kicked out of the automated verification system... and unless it is manually handled/corrected it won't sail. Now the worst part is, it is obvious that your issue (error the automated system sees) is one they haven't ran into "exactly" yet so they don't know what the fix is. This is all a data program issue and that is what gets me so mad... the program doesn't know how to handle your exact Business set up for some reason... the data program writers are to blame! Think of all the times you've see this. It is maddening! We are in 2024! They should have these programs on point by now! I wouldn't give them much more time... keep calling higher ups until you get it solved. So sorry you guys! hugs!!

Hopefully you get it sorted. If you need to print documents again and need them on your computer. In the print screen change the printer to "print as PDF" and it'll save the document for you instead of printing it off.
It's hard to think of two people who have done more to promote ebay as a platform in the UK and beyond over the past many years. Ebay should be on their knees begging your forgiveness!!
In my experience with eBay they never support sellers, we are always treated as if we are liars or criminals and easily shut down if we do not agree with them. You have provided them with official government tax letters to prove that your genuine sellers. Like you said, what more do they want 'A vile of blood'. Good gracious! I hope that this video gets seen by the head of eBay because it's policies need to radically change for the better. Good Luck!
I have found the best time to speak to someone from Ireland is early evening and weekend they are so much more helpful hope you get it sorted soon.

I can tell its a call centre abroad in the Philippines, I know this because my cousin works in one. They follow a script and have no clue beyond that. Legal documents there need to have multiple signatures on every page, it's how their legal system works but not ours. I have a feeling someone has gotten these mixed up.
This is why I feel its important to have teams in the country of origin dealing woth these kind of issues. Cos they would have an understanding more sp that a team in another country dealing with tax documents from all over the world. But I guess its just cheaper for ebay to do it that why.

We left the eBay platform because they overdrafted our bank account instead of giving the refund from available funds and they refunded the single $50.00 purchase 10 times in a single day....We closed the account, had to pay a $37.00 overdraft fee to close the account and refused to ship anything to anyone on ebay ....ever again. They literally stole $450.00 dollars from our bank account directly and also kept our full available balance....We lost almost $600.00 for a $50.00 refund. 🤬🤬

I work in customer services and you need to ask to talk to a manager, just keep saying to the person who answers the phone at the start that you want to escalate this and you want to talk to a manager, just keep repeating that you want to talk to a manager. The person who answers the phone at the start will not be able to help you, if he needs to talk to a different department ask him what department he is getting in touch with and ask to be transferred to the department.
Agreed! Keep asking for a supervisor. Don't take no for an answer. They may even just hang up on you, CALL BACK. Being annoying to ebay is your new job until this is fixed!
How do people get there account back from permanent suspension (completely unfair ban!!!) why are they doing this to so many genuine, long term sellers? Why do they have no empathy for peoples livelihoods? These are genuine questions that I’d appreciate an answer to.

Indeed. As I've had to say in the past, "Look around the room, find the person with the biggest desk and put me through to them", though that applies less with remote working. I could feel myself getting stressed just listening to this and can relate. Really feel their pain.

Trouble is, you need them more than they need you. Obviously they need sellers but they won't worry about losing 1 customer (especially a customer service agent on minimum wage, I would ask for a manager)
I'm only a small time private seller on ebay, but a year ago they put my money on hold until my account was verified. I had to send documents which was a passport and driving licence. They kept asking for documents even though I'd given them, again and again. In the end I realised that my name on my ebay account was slightly different from the one on my passport and as soon as I changed it on ebay the verification went through. I think I was just using my initial and surname on ebay whereas on my passport and driving licence it's my full name. I changed it to be the same and that was it, I was up and running again. So it might be be worth just checking that everything is the same throughout. Good luck.

I had the same problem I was using my shorten name but had to change this to my full name as it didn’t match the documents I sent in
I feel for you. It's got to the point where when dealing with any companies such as ebay, utilities, banks, large Swedish retailers - you count yourself lucky if it's sorted out without a glitch.

Literally bro it’s so bad
PayPal did that with a friend’s business years ago; held £30,000 for sometime. The cynic in me say they do this because the longer they keep £ in their bank the more interest they get. You need to start building your own website (or get a professional to do it) & start driving your customers there for future security.

Thanks nic and Andrea for having this conversation for us all. I appreciate it. It isn’t just the fear of switching off your account that are driving people away from the platforms. It’s the constant siding with the buyers and no way to defend yourself, it’s also the cheaper fees or no fees on other platforms and a less longer listing time and less issues.
OMG I'm totally stressed just watching you go through this. I closed my business on eBay a few years ago. Totally different reasons, but every bit as frustrating. When you rely on a single platform to run your business, the platform effectively owns your business.

Scheduled or promised call backs rarely happen. I've had that with numerous companies. Agents are clock watchers who don't care, it's just a job to pay the bills. You'll get a different agent each time you call and you have to go through the problem again and again until you're blue in the face. Good luck hope you resolve this.

Wow, this is shocking! I feel so sorry for you guys. I'm genuinely worried about eBay and as soon as Vinted Pro is available here in the UK I'll be looking into that as solely using eBay could potentially damage my business

I really feel for you guys. Apart from the overuse of AI at Ebay, the problem is that the US definition of a partnership is different to ours. Over there, a partnership has an official number which we do not have in the UK. We went through this a few years ago and resolved it by entering zeros in the company number box. But that may not work any more. If you can get to speak to Dublin they will be much better but unless you get Concierge through an Anchor Shop it will be very difficult. Wishing you all the best and hoping you get your funds unfrozen soon. Don't give up !

14:18 I don’t know if you are aware of HMRC targeting eBay Incomes, but it appears to me that that the suspension is dependent upon whether you are a ‘partnership’ or a company. What HMRC knows about your online business is entirely dependent upon your income declarations in your tax returns and they would notify you if you need to register as incorporated company. Your eBay liaison is clearly in a different jurisdiction and is unable to offer you advice. However it is clear that your account has become ‘flagged’ and it is quite likely that HMRC has come into an arrangement with eBay to suspend payments to ‘partnership’ accounts that exceed threshold income that otherwise requires you to become incorporated as a registered company and be taxed accordingly. From your dependence on this income stream it is quite possible that this is the case. It will not be incumbent upon eBay to provide advice about compliance with UK tax regulations and if you have any doubts you should seek professional advice. If you require adjustments to your trading status you should update this as soon as possible and provide eBay with the information they need. Sadly I think eBay are probably correct and you are unwittingly not compliant with UK tax requirements.

@@snakeplissken526 A partnership only requires declarations on a personal tax return for payment of income tax on profits. If their business income from eBay (and elsewhere) is over £85k HMRC will expect them to register as a business and pay VAT. And maybe even corporation tax. The couple don’t discuss this and it could be where their issues originate, particularly if HMRC are able to monitor eBay earnings.
It's just a basic confusion of terms, the system ebay are using to check won't find a "partnership" that doesn't exist, entity confusion like this is quite common in small and medium sized enterprises. They aren't a partnership they are a proprietorship using joint tax. BUT by saying they "are a partnership" the guys at ebay can't find a match, it's a bit sad but simply a business identity issue.
American companies like Ebay, google etc don't recognise UK partnerships (i.e. two sole traders in agreement to work as one). They only see incorporated (ltd) or unincorporated (Sole proprietorship/sole trader)

Just stopped. No problems for over 4 years and didn’t listen to you all but I finally caught the “return a different item” scam. Before I talked to Cs I had all my Info and pictures and numbers ready. So much hassle and to easy to scam sellers
I am really sorry to hear what you have gone through especially when you think of what great ambassadors you have been for the Ebay platform! I'm grateful for your video because it has convinced me that I should leave Ebay. It's been dodgy for a long time but it's now absolutely clear that sellers are not safe on Ebay. The trouble with any problem with E Bay as a seller is you end up talking to a call centre person in the Philippines where common sense seems not to rule. Contact the UK CEO its the only way to get anything done.

We had a similar problem when after many years as a seller we sold some very expensive Leica camera gear and were accused of money laundering! We fortunately had held the items pending receipt of the funds so we contacted the buyers, cancelled the eBay sales and sold the items privately. We never used eBay for selling ever again!

Number 1 Rule when it comes to serious financial issues like this is demand to speak to a representative in Ireland and not someone from a call centre somewhere else on the planet. They have no understanding of UK agencies, terms etc so you are speaking a different language a lot of the time. Also a competent member of customer service staff would not admit to the things he did. eBay believe it or not have improved their customer service massively in the last few years. It used to be even more like banging your head against a wall.
Amazon did the same to me, some of these companies have terrible processes. I got banned because another user created a product page with the wrong the brand 🤯.
I had an MC011 restriction to shut my TOP-RATED PLUS 3year account shutdown, supposedly random. Now my funds are on hold. Working hard as hell for slow sales and now my money won't come to me until 3-4 weeks for stuff I'm selling now. When paypal was the only option with Ebay i had multiple accounts put into a hold status for 6 months for selling hemp oil , i moved onto alternative products and haven't had a problem since
I had the same problem sold my laptop for £800 and had to wait over 2 weeks to get paid out and they still took over £100 in fees and no apology

I also saw the issue you had about the buyer returning your product damaged and were able to get a full refund without any repercussions at all. Even though you sold them a perfectly new product. What you are talking about seems to be quite common recently, I have also heard that they are not as popular as they used to be, plus they seem to be concentrating on other parts of their business that doesn't relate to the actual ebay site. I have been an ebay member since 2012 and had a store for 2 years. Once all of these problems started with Ebay I shut my store done, etc. I do occasionally buy something off Ebay, but that is the extent of it. Also when I started hearing about issues with PayPal, I closed that account.

What they dont seem to get is you can either register with tax office as a sole trader, partnership or company and only the latter needs a company number. Seems so obvious its a joke, not a funny one
I have similar kind of issue with eBay; but I don’t request them anymore; whenever I get upset for any other reason, I just call them to swear. It’s good for my mental health
I was going to start selling Ebay but after watching your video, I changed my mind, lately I heard so many bad stories about Ebay holding sellers money or shutting down their account for no clear reasons, I can't even imagine the level of stress and anger you must have, I can't deal with this, I'll just stay with my own websites and post my ads. I’ve been there myself! I haven’t called in a while, and I’m 24 years eBay! Bottom line, that initial customer service person will RARELY be able to help!! Always ask to escalate to their manager or I suppose the verification team! Waste of time talking to the initial line of defense. I feel for you guys, my blood pressure went up on your behalf ha
I stopped selling with them because they kept my earnings for over 30 days. I finally threatened them with legal action and they let me have it, and that was the last time
Dear Nic and Andrea. We had exactly same problem in 2021 when eBay separated from PayPal. It took around 6 weeks, many phone calls until finally I spoke with one person she helped us to upload documents manually each time sending link, we sent them our tax return which we had to sing :) we had similar letters from HMRC confirming that we are partnerships but it wasn't accepted by eBay. Main issue is eBay do not recognise partnership as legal form of running a business. I don't have RUclips platform and in 2021 it took so much stress out of me as eBay is our main income. Firstly eBay should learn themselves about form of running business in UK then we wouldn't have this issue. Waiting for another video with update. Good luck.
What a nightmare! I'd be extremely stressed as well. I really hope it gets resolved soon for you guys. For so many of us, this is our literal livelihood and it's horrifying that the plug can be pulled like we are literal nothings!!
I’m not a reseller thankfully & I say thankfully because I’ve watched quite a few videos recently of sellers like yourselves having horrendous issues with eBay. So sorry for your struggles with this issue.
