    I am non-binary, in my 50's and my legal 1st name is Jerri. That's the name I was given at birth by my Mom and Dad. You would not believe how many people over the past 10 years or so have insisted I named myself Jerri because I am queer.
    I have had people who spread rumors I was born male. I am AFAB. Infact, someone outed me in 2011 on social media, but were made to legal take it down. It got ugly.
    To be outed as a child would have been devastating. I grew up Mormon and it would have resulted in shunning. I would sue if I were the parents of this child. Perhaps after a few hundred people do, the law will be history.

      I grew up Mormon too. I’m in my early twenties and the big thing I hear from my family and my old ward rn is that it’s a phase and I’m going to know better and regret transitioning when I get older. It’s always comforting to hear from older Exmos or queer people cause it makes me feel less like I’m making a short sighted and juvenile mistake leaving and transitioning, something I’ve been waiting to be able to safely do for years

    For the idiots who dont get that this isn't a choice or some identity forced onto children:
    Nobody told me to be trans. I grew up not liking pink, preferring to gang out with boys, but I got told that 'girls dont do that", so I always felt out of place with girls.
    Socially, I had a lot of dysphoria. I didnt know it or understand it, but having my long butt length hair cut just above my shoulders felt right, and i didnt let it get much further past my shoulders.
    I saw an A Current Affair episode about a trans girl who tried to use scissors to remove her genitals, and thought trans people only hated their bodies.
    When i learnt what non binary was, the feeling that I didnt fit in with my fellow girls and women came back to me, and I went by they them, and eventually tried using he and they.
    I needed a binder for most of my early 20s, and at 24. Ive been on Testosterone for over a year. I finally feel like me. If this was forced on me, or if this was a phase, i wouldnt have spend over $1000 on medications to alter my body forever.
    I am a man, and I will never be a woman again: it was my own idea, nto something I was fed by other queer people.

    • @kaygee2121
      @kaygee2121 Месяц назад

      Keep telling yourself that. Our stories are strikingly similar as I have a ton of masculine traits. I'm not very fem, but guess what? I'm still 100% woman. You are not a man just because you hate pink and didn't get on with the gals. Stop falling into stereotypes and labels, that had you known nothing about, you'd still believe you were a woman. There's nothing wrong with being a woman with masc traits. You are being fed lies that you can't accept yourself as the wonderful, unique person you are because of a dumb ideological societal trend.

    • @emisthem6562
      @emisthem6562 Месяц назад +1

      @kaygee2121 That's just it. You are a woman with masculine traits, but for me, that doesn't fit. It never has, and I am far happier calling myself a man than I ever was wearing dresses. If you don't agree with me about an identity I found which suits me, so be it, but don't disrespect me a human being by telling me I'm not a man. I feel this way, nobody told me to.

    I had the preferred pronoun/name battle with one of my kid’s teachers until I copied the assistant principal (who presented as NGC, although I never asked of course) on a letter stating that I knew the teacher was aware of my child’s chosen name and preferred pronouns, but I continued to hear they were not being observed by the teacher. It was my expectation that my child be respected by all of their teachers by being addressed by their pps/chosen name. To address my child by their dead name at school (with explanation of this term) created a hostile learning environment, which was at direct odds with the school’s mission statement and its function as an alternate school for kids who already struggled with ED, truancy, and learning differences. I said that whether the teacher approved of my child’s gender identification or not was irrelevant, but I did expect the teachers and staff to both model and demonstrate respect to all of the students as is demanded by the most basic professional behavior. There was never another incident. The teacher occasionally slipped, but would apologize and correct himself. That assistant principal showed up at the next IEP meeting to check up on how things were going. She was amazing, and I always wished I knew how she handled things with that teacher.

When I was student teaching, one of my students was trans, but his family didn't support it, saying we weren't allowed to use his preferred name and pronouns. All the students called him as a boy, no issue. Some teachers were afraid to do it and then get in trouble with his parents, but my supervising teacher and I called him by his chosen name and pronouns. He was always a very good student, very active participant in class and socially. What I don't understand is that when I was going to school for my Education degree, we were told when taking attendance to ask if there was another name students would like to be called by because many of us go by nicknames or a "Get to Know the Students" letter was sent home where parents could also fill that in along with stuff like favorite colors, books and stuff like that. It was also a subtle way to let students who were not "out" to have some autonomy and feel safe. We would just make note of it on attendance and when talking to parents we used their legal names.
    We were told that sometimes we were the safe adults that children may need help from and we were to keep them safe even if it was from their own parents. Now we couldn't like work miracles but we were allowed to give advice when asked. Unless they were a danger to themselves or others would we have to cross that line but not to this extent. If they can't be safe at home, they need to be safe somewhere. My beliefs should not endanger a child that may be beaten, killed or abandoned.
    I don't understand the rules we have these days. This isn't the right way to do things.
