  • In 2007, Farley and Claire Mowat protected their 200 acre Cape Breton oasis, keeping it forever wild, by generously donating the property to the Nature Trust. CBC's Land & Sea did a special chronicling the protection of this spectacular coastal property and Farley's journey as a passionate environmentalist.

Thank you SO much for sharing this, it's absolutely priceless. I was annoyed by some of the host's comments but I guess I can't expect much 'radicalism' from conventional media production. Like it would have been great to hear the host say 'And THANK GOD Mowat donated his land to the trust!'

Can't believe most coastal land held in private on Nova Scotia. Coasts and beaches should be open to all and held as public lands. Everywhere. Nature should not just be the provenance of the rich.

Farley just died. He was a giant for all on this planet. He's gone and has left it to us. (Other giants, too, of course.) But Farley was real special. I think it really started with that war he was in...he enthusiastically went into it, actually. Oh, just read his book, "And No Birds Sang." TRUTH about our kind upon this planet. Messed Farley up. He got healed by coming to the other sharers of this planet...and being accepted in more ways than he could imagine. We're not the only ones. my son. MMEERROOWW!! hoho.
