  • In this archival episode of Land & Sea from 1992, reporter Pauline Thornhill visits two men from Notre Dame Bay who have returned to a simpler time. Lloyd and Carl Wheaton left home in search of better lobster fishing grounds and now fish from Prowseton, away from their wives and children.

I've been watching these NL series for a while now, they are great! I can't find any similar series about BC. Did CBC make any like this for BC?

They no long fish there no. Now retired. The Hickeys/Hynes and Lakes are all my family. My grandfather was one of the last people born over there before it was resettled. My grandfathers a Hickey, my great nan a Lake who’s mother was a Hynes. The Hickeys and Lakes are most definitely retired, not sure what Hynes are left out there.

This would have been the all time best episode of the show if had to introduce the families that were there when they FOUND this new place, like when they slept in one of the Families hay she'd. The story should've stuck to their own personal lives. I personally own the land on which most of the cabins are built, the deed was passed to me by my grandfather. Family can build as long as there's no fences was his only stipulation.

My grandfathers family was from out there and and my grandad was born there. The Hickeys/Lakes. We owned the cabin over by the beach until a few years ago. My grandmother was a Lake who’s mom was a Laura Hynes. And for personally owning all of the land out there I just called up my family and They said that’s not true as the Hickeys and Lakes own the land that their cabins are on and still go out there to this day. Your grandfather is my great nans uncle Will and used to be at our house all the time. In the future make sure you tell the truth.

pretty sad, to see how hard they have to work for a few fish, Meanwhile you have to put up with the Overfishing, of cod stock, and everything else that came out of the Sea.There was supposed to be a 2000 Mile Limit. But China doesn't respect Rules and Regulations and Laws or Lawmakers.Only their own, And Don't anyone else cross it. It really is a terrible thing. But Newfoundlanders love the Sea, the work and Newfoundland, and their Patriotism to their Land is Something The rest of the world is very much lacking in... Seeing the Beauty around you,. Being contented with what you have, NUTTIN LIKE IT me SON..., Enjoy... And God bless you all...
