Thanks for the video! My dad called today and they overheated today and refilled and found a leak so I may be changing the pump this weekend. Your video really makes it clear what I need to do.
Hey man thanks a lot for the step by step video. Just changed mine out a couple days ago and this video helped tremendously. Just thought I'd come back to say thanks !
5/16 is also eight millimeter. And the bolts are inverted torx. I'm not trying to correct you I'm only trying to help those who might need it. But great video regardless. I'll be replacing my water pump today and i just needed a refresher.
I'm betting those bolts are 10mm not 5/16". My new set dont have 5/16" but I know Chevy uses 10mm for everything (which my set has). They are close enough to the same. Best Cruze water pump video on RUclips hands down.
when doing this water pump I sugest you take each bolt and match where it goes on the new pump. there are lots of screws and there all different sizes im pretty sure.
Put a piece of wood on the lifting part of a jack and lift carefully from the oil pan, you dont need to lift it much just enough so the engine wont drop when you remove the motor mount
As soon as I got a 1998 Mercedes E-Class for my wife about five years ago, I made sure to get a set of external Torx sockets. I already had some triple-square (12-point) drivers because we previously had VWs. GM probably got those fasteners (and much of the car itself) from Opel in Deutschland. GM also owned Vauxhall and Saab for a while. According to Wikipedia, the Cruze was jointly developed by GM, Opel, and Daewoo (the latter two being European and Asian subsidiaries [either wholly or in part] of GM, at the time). Apparently the Germans love those external Torx nuts and bolts.
The engine is not mixed metric and regular. On the water pump, tensioner and pulley bolts, you were using the wrong sockets. You should have been using an E10 for the water pump, E14 for the pulley and E16 for the tensioner. Those are reverse Torx bolt heads. By using the incorrect sockets you could round off the head. Everything on that engine is metric.
I am not criticizing or trashing you at all. I just finished mine today. I am just pointing out that there are special sockets for those star headed bolts and yes, they are metric thread. Your video was very informative. Thanks for making it.
This engine runs great but is problematic. The water pumps and turbos are known issues. The valve cover was a new one for me. Apparently the integrated PCV can go bad causing excessive vacuum build up in the motor and this destroys all your seals. Oil pan gasket, cam seals, crank seals, valve cover seal, valve cover and bam, $1500+ later.
@@tornparachute5702 sorry to hear that. It wasn't a bill I was expecting but I felt GM should have covered a portion of this peripheral damage. They also discovered a transmission leak. The main transmission seal, may have been te torque convertor seal, replaced. 2 months later my turbo cracked, causing a low boost code. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
I definitely had all these done as well. My housing units both broke. And I believe it was because the pump is leaking. Still working but leaking. And I think because the car often got a little too warm (I never let it fully overheat) I'll probably be looking for a valve gasket soon.
I mentioned it to my daughter but she didnt want to deal with the dealership so she had me do it. Apparently these 1.4 liter engins have a big problem with the water pumps
Thanks for the video! My dad called today and they overheated today and refilled and found a leak so I may be changing the pump this weekend. Your video really makes it clear what I need to do.
You did a Great job in explaining the whole replacement and installation.
I will be replacing my son’s water pump this weekend. Great job explaining so thoroughly. I subscribed.
How’d it go
Hey man thanks a lot for the step by step video. Just changed mine out a couple days ago and this video helped tremendously. Just thought I'd come back to say thanks !
Thank you for the love my friend, I’m glad I was able to help
If you leave the belt on and loosen the pully bolts, THEN take the belt off, the bolts can be removed with your finger.
That's exactly what I was gonna comment on lol

Good two part video. I learned a lot. Thanks for making it.

I do know for a fact that an 8mm and a 5/16” are the same size
A 10mil would be close to a 3/8”
@@RatchetRiceRockets mabe this set wont work my smallest ones is 3/8 and 10mm
@@RatchetRiceRockets so this wont have all the sockets I need then? I need 5/16" right?
@@RatchetRiceRockets I'll just use my 12 point sockets.
I just had a mechanic charge us 700$ for this water pump replacement. Is that acceptable? I feel like no. It’s a 2 hour job max.
how many miles is on that car i have 123,000 and my car is a 2014 sad i know
when doing this water pump I sugest you take each bolt and match where it goes on the new pump. there are lots of screws and there all different sizes im pretty sure.
Yes the bolts are 3 different sizes i address the issue in the install video part 2
How should I lift the car and engine up? can I just leave the car itself leveled or should I jack te car as well?
Put a piece of wood on the lifting part of a jack and lift carefully from the oil pan, you dont need to lift it much just enough so the engine wont drop when you remove the motor mount
Thank you so much help very explain video God bless you
How’s that oil pan tho
Where do I put the jack to hold the engine up? Only thing I'm having trouble understanding.
Under the oil pan use a piece of wood for cushion
@@RatchetRiceRockets thanks for the video, replacing mine soon. Just wanted to ask, supporting engine by oil pan doesn't risk crushing it?
Use a couple layers of card board, scrap piece of lumber the engine is sitting on the jack your not really lifting it, you’ll be fine
@@RatchetRiceRockets thanks
Great video
Thank you so much your video was a big help :)
Your welcome, thank you for watching
Son, that's an external torx. do no use regular sockets you can easily round those.
So I’ve been told

Robert Babut when you say torx bolt heads are you talking about 12 point heads
Robert Babut and yes the cars engine is mixed metric and standard because I did the job SUCCESSFULLY. thank you for watching

Google "E10 socket" and you will see what I am talking about.
Is the 2012 1.4 turbo has the same water pump as the 2015? Thanks you
I've never looked into that I believe the motors are the same
When u jack up the engine how high do u do it? How would I know how high to crank it up to get the proper clearance??
You just need to hold the engine from dropping because your removing the passenger engine mount completely
@@RatchetRiceRockets So we aren’t technically jacking it up? Just using it to hold it?
Yes correct trevor
@@RatchetRiceRockets oh ok great. Thank you. Honestly didn’t expect you to respond to my comment since the videos over a year old. Appreciate it👍
Is there any noise in the pump? Will have to change
No noise, my pump started leaking water
I have a car sound but no leak.
If you know for sure its coming from the water pump, i would definitely plan on replacing it in the near future
Was the engine making a chirping noise before replacing?
No it was just overheating
8:17. Self-clamping clamps are placed on the cooling system. Due to temperature changes. That is, the clamp is not correct on the thermostat
Word. What was the cause of replacing water pump ??
Car was overheating constantly

Literally just heard back from the shop getting the old girl inspected and they hit me with everything you just said.

Drivetrain have Factory warranty for 5 year and the Include Water pump to.

The Life Of D&K these cars are junk. Have one currently with 90K and had to have top end rebuilt due to low compression on 2 cylinders
Probably leaking from the gasket
Could have left the belt on to hold tension on the water pump pulley to allow the removal of the bolts holding the pulley to the pump 😂
That’s not the case here, the pulleys slip because the belt doesn’t grip enough
How many hours approx to change
Chris W you probably already got it done but for people wondering depending on your level of knowledge, it would take about 1-2 hours
They use Esockets not std.. but std will work
😙
What a pain in the ass.
