I have been 66 for 6 months now. Everything in my heart and soul believes without a doubt, Jackson truly is and has been the very best songwriter/musician of my lifetime. I love many other bands and musicians but Jackson has always been my #1. I have been diagnosed with "C" but i am going to fight with all i can to be free of it. For many reasons but i am not ready to let go of this music. Jackson has been in my life since i first heard him in my youth. He has a special place in my heart.

I agree with you. Jackson is the most prolific songwriter of our times. His poetic excellence is without equal. The For Everyman album floored me when I first heard it in the seventies. Fifty years later he still brings peace to me in a selfish world. What a gifted man.

At this point in his career Jackson Browne had published, I think 3 albums: Saturate Before Using, Late for the Sky and Everyman. This collection of material is on display in this concert. If he had never written another lyric or sang another note his body of work established him as one of the great songwriters of his day. Though the production values of this recording are not so great, in my mind and heart, every note and word still rings true. As a college kid I played these albums over and over. They became an important part of me, as did The Pretender album. These songs like a time machine carry me back and touch deep in my soul. I'm forever grateful to have grown up with such musical influences. Thanks Jackson, I feel forever indebted for these gifts.
The Pretender actually came out the month after this concert. The following summer, he was on the road with a superstar band, recording the music for Running on Empty.

76 year I graduated High School.... loved and still do love JB music. Even at 71 now he still sounds as great as back then. Watching Tour list hoping he'll come to our area.... THAT would be the Best!
Best thing about this is how un-"showman" it is. They look like a band just playing in a studio who are happy to have an audience watch them work - just gathered around in a circle, equipment placed where it's convenient so they can hear each other. And the playing and arrangment are dead-on tight. Simply beautiful.
Lindley is hardly a household name, but he’s hardly underrated. He’s an absolute legend. Look at his discography. The guy has worked with Ry Cooder numerous times, ask Ry how he rates him.
I can listen to Jackson Brown today, just as I did in 1972 while in high school. Well, its certainly been long time since high school but what memories, thank you for sharing your gift with those who can only wish to have such talent.

Wow at him opening the show with his yet to be released song The Fuse , The Pretender album. I remember being at a party, age 16, and hearing the local DJ say, here’s the title song from Jackson Browne’s new album The Pretender I rushed to the record store the next morning to buy it.
It's almost like reading a diary you've written over your younger years. To have so very much life experience, blows me away watching almost reading, this footage. Jackson you genius. You never cease to amaze me. God bless you. I love you to bits.
3 weeks later, i have watched this many times. I was 20 then. I went to one of his concerts when i was 22. I will be 66 in a week. I had been a fan long before the concert. There are so many things to love about this concert, more than i can list here. It's no wonder i have been a "fan" for so many years.

Have never been disappointed. Saw this show two weeks earlier in Cincinnati (Oct 1, 1976). This recording (in spite of the flaws) brings a flood of wonderful memories. Truer words never spoken the seventies were the best to be young ,teenagers and young adults! Could get away with anything ! No HIV. We had the pill no worries about getting pregnant! This, and other music, from the 70s are indeed great. But what was even better was being in my 20s. The possibilities were unlimited. I had the world by the tale. Or tail, one or the other. How'd it turn out? The Springsteen song, "Backstreets," pretty much nails it.

Heard him at the San Jose Civic Auditorium in 1970. He was the warm up band (imagine that!) for Linda Ronstadt. David Lindley sat in with Linda's band. What an incredible night of fabulous music. Musically and lyrically he is a gift to the world.
All JB's songs move me. His songs have followed me thru so many hardships in my life and so many good times in my life. I call him the love of my life.

Cool. Living in The Lowcountry of SC, I didn't get the chance to see him until 4 years ago. I had tickets for The Hurricane Irma relief tour but was in a car accident and couldn't drive for 6 months. Crap...
I saw him there too, opening for Linda. That was '71 or '72 I think? After 'Song for Adam', I turned to my buddy and told him,"that does it - tomorrow I'm gonna buy an acoustic guitar" and I did. Never looked back. Have seen him several times over the years, and he just keeps getting better. Thank you Jackson!
It's funny how some artists' music just "hits" you at the exact time you need it. It's not just coincidental ... I think it's a sort of a soulful connection waiting to happen. When it does --- and also when the life circumstances surrounding you at the time lend a receptivity --- it literally "impresses" a shape on your spirit. And that shape never leaves you. You return to it whenever you want to or need to and it ALWAYS evokes the same feelings, albeit adjusted for your place upon your life's journey. But, speaking for myself, I know if a song made me cry instantly upon first hearing it, then it ALWAYS will ... even after 40 or 50 years! The good artistic stuff ... the REALLY good stuff ... whether Van Gogh, The Beatles, or Jackson, it matters not. The art and the songs are effective, but more importantly, they are "affective"!
I saw a JB- Concert on a cold, foggy Winterday in December 1976 in Heidelberg/Germany, his Birthtown. I really was not in a good mood, had some personal troubles. This concert changed everything completly, after it I felt a complete happiness. I'll never forget this night.
I saw him in 1982 and then recently on May 12, 2022 in Vancouver, BC with James Taylor. I ended up buying all his repertoire I could get my hands on. Holy Hannah, like falling in love for the first time, still can't get enough. I'm tickled pink I went to see him.
Jackson is one of Americas' great songwriters. Lindley is one of our greatest stringed instrument musicians and their talents meld together and add to each other and become something even better than when apart. SWEET concert! Thanks!

My older brother and I drove from Wytheville to Roanoke to get THE PRETENDER the first week it hit the shelves : 84 miles each way, but we didn't get music to the mountains in any timely fashion. I confessed on the way home, " Boyd, I bought 2 copies. " And he smiled, " Me, too. " I still have mine.
Your tale is one of love my friend...for music and with your brother. What a treasured memory. In my mind, your story is in us all; searching, discovery, capturing and wanting to hold onto the wondrous glories of life. Music and art, family and friends, kinship to others...what else is there? We are here for such a short time and then we're gone. Having an extra copy and driving an hour and a half...if only we could get an extra copy of other precious parts of our life like a close friend or family member, so we'd never lose them!

Saw him 2 summers ago, his voice was still incredible. He did so much old stuff it was amazing. He still has it, and seems as sweet as we remember him from the late 70's.
Gold, Gold, Gold!!! Have seen Jackson Browne every tour down under since he first toured here in the late 70`s. Has never let anyone down in concert in my eyes, but more to the point has blown myself and many others away on numerous occasions. Has always toured with brilliant and classy musicians, including that ragtag mob called "The Section" and the many artists he`s toured down here with; Bonnie Rait, James Taylor, Kebmo etc. etc. I remember one night at the now demolished Sydney Entertainment Centre Knophler got up on stage to jam with the boys for a couple of songs and the Kootch, Danny Kortchmar blew Knophler all the way back to the old England Town, pretty to watch. i`ll keep going while Jackson keeps coming, absolute genius, last show at the Sydney Opera House a couple of years ago brilliant, featuring his latest album at the time which is also brilliant. This Man can Sing!!

This brings back so many memories...the concert was during the fall of my freshman year at CSU in Ft. Collins, CO. There was a small record shop, Finest Records right across the street from my dorm where I got introduced to Jackson Browne and Dan Fogelberg, still my two favorite musicians of all time. As others have said, true poet laureates of their generation, and even of all time, I would argue. If you love Jackson Browne, I highly recommend his two volume acoustic album. Pure magic with lots of life wisdom woven in along the way.

Been a fan of JB since the beginning, his lyrics just seemed to speak to me, but I guess we all feel like that. I was stuck in a declining marriage when I heard the song Late for the Sky, and it somehow made things clear to me, especially the lines: I don't know what I loved in you, I don't know what you loved in me; maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be.... What amazed me then, and still resonates today, is that he and I are the same age, yet he had all this insight to life when he was in his early 20s! I expected to learn life's lessons from my parents and others who had lived long enough to experience how to deal with the difficulties we inevitably run into. How did he get all this life experience at 24?? Kind of made me feel like I was a child and he was the wise old man at the mountaintop. Very grateful for all these tunes, and this video was fabulous!
grown up music for people who have lived a life. My older sister used to play Late for the Sky a lot when i was growing up. Those songs stuck in my head. Later in life as an adult that record (cd) came into my possession and i started to play it after my first marriage fell apart. The songs came alive and i finally understood what he was singing about - adult stuff. They are still beautiful songs. After the Deluge is just brilliant.

What gift to be able hear Jackson's concert from 1976 when he was first starting out. Thank you for sharing this. Sound quality and video is amazing. I was never able to have experience a live concert when he was just starting out. I was in junior high and and too young to even be aware of his music till I was in my late teens. This performance is so true to that all the albums I have. It's incredible how he captured the songs from his albums so accurately in these early live concerts. So talented and so ahead of his time profound lyrics that I begin to understand more and more the older I get.
Had a chance to attend concert mississippi collisium. , was working at Treasury drugs my best girlfriend had tickets , but couldn't get another best friend who worked with me to work my shift, found out he decided to take my place and went with deb was hurt. I saw him 6 days earlier at William and Mary college. I was only 16 and chills went up my spine when he walked on stage! My first of many JB concerts! Orleans opened for him. Those were the good ol' days!

Probably because the audio isn't great quality. So many are used to excellent audio on videos that they forget that this stuff was taped off live TV signals frequently and not high fidelity by any means. And if you compare videos from video cameras just 15 years ago, they look horrible compared to today. This is very good considering all.

Watching this it must have been hard for him to go on tour just 7 months after his wife, Phyllis Major, committed suicide - and less than a year after they had gotten married. That helps explain why he was so unsure when the Pretender album would be released, as he was introducing its title track. Great performance and it's so nice to see and hear Jackson and David Lindley in their younger days. JB is an amazing poet/songwriter, in my opinion. Without RUclips so much of this would be lost in time.

There is something so raw and somber about the feel of this performance. Then I noticed the date, and realized it was about six months since his wife passed on. Boy of Mine is so unbelievable sad, and I don't know how he managed.

I will try to come back and put in a link. I agree. " Boy of Mine”, written well before he knew that his son’s mother would be gone is a heartbreaker. As soon as I hear the words “Boy of Mine” at the beginning I start to melt. I think she (Phillis Major) died in May 1976 and Jackson said that after about 3 months he just had to get back to work. I really miss seeing Jackson Browne in Concert. First time I saw him was Tulsa OK for the Karen Silkwood benefit and it was the late show he played two in a night, such fine music, I will be happy about that night forever. Wow just stumbled upon this. Jackson Browne is such a great songwriter and has featured so many great players on his albums and his touring band. Always great to see him playing live with the great David Lindley. A friend convinced me to go and see him when he was touring The Pretender in Sydney January 1977. I became a lifelong fan after that show. Maria Muldaur opened for him that night and she was great.
I was at this concert but at SMU. A hall that held about 300 people. I left a different person. He took me to an otherworldly church. I was never the same. It wasn't the first time I saw him and it wasn't the last. It was the smallest. I have no words.

I'm 48 and this is the soundtrack of my childhood. My dad is a huge JB fan. We've traveled all over the place seeing JB in concert. Some of the best times I've shared with my dad as an adult.
This is a wonderful archive. 1976 was just a kick butt year in general, and especially for music, with Jackson being in the front runners of making music that would impact so many, so profoundly. I still know all the words to all of these songs, 47 years after first hearing them. As my friends and I would cherrfully say, "Bring me down, Jackson Browne!!" 😉
The Capitol was a great venue. My friend was a bouncer there so we got into most concerts for free. There was a constant flow of joints during the concerts. Those were the best days of my life. I was heartbroken when the Capitol Theater closed and was later demolished. I guess all good things must come to an end. Concerts now are like more than 10 X the cost of what tickets went for back then. But then again, who wants to go to a concert and see the crap that’s out there now anyway. Peace to all my brothers and sisters from back then. And JB, thanks for the great sound track to my life. Keep the music coming!
Saturate Before Using has christened every home or apartment that I have lived in. First Lp, CD or iTunes album played fully through as I put stuff away. Decade after decade, place after place. Moved into my current home twice, once in the fall of ‘95 and again in the spring of 2010, and of course I turned it on and Saturated Before Using my home.
I wasn't at this concert, but I still have my ticket stub from his concert that year in Toledo, Ohio. It cost me $7.50 and was well worth the $1.60 minimum wage I was making at Burger Chef! Doctor My Eyes, Running on Empty (tour album) and Stay were highlights from my memory.
+James Simmons Where would he have played at in Toledo at that time, James? Surely not the Sports Arena. UT's Centennial Hall? I can't believe I didn't attend. I recall seeing him at about this time up at what was then called Pine Knob.

David Lindley was always a special treat at Jackson's shows, one of the most amazing and relatively underrated multi-instrumentalists around.
David is surely only underrated by those who have never heard him! I saw him with Ry Cooder in London a lifetime ago......awesome

Lindley is hardly a household name, but he’s hardly underrated. He’s an absolute legend. Look at his discography. The guy has worked with Ry Cooder numerous times, ask Ry how he rates him.
I can listen to Jackson Brown today, just as I did in 1972 while in high school. Well, its certainly been long time since high school but what memories, thank you for sharing your gift with those who can only wish to have such talent.
The level of his song writing brilliance is magical. What a remarkable soul.

Wow at him opening the show with his yet to be released song The Fuse , The Pretender album. I remember being at a party, age 16, and hearing the local DJ say, here’s the title song from Jackson Browne’s new album The Pretender I rushed to the record store the next morning to buy it.

3 weeks later, i have watched this many times. I was 20 then. I went to one of his concerts when i was 22. I will be 66 in a week. I had been a fan long before the concert. There are so many things to love about this concert, more than i can list here. It's no wonder i have been a "fan" for so many years.
Awesome - thank you Jackson Browne. Great music. A great band. David Lindley is amazing. An injustice that David is not in the rock and roll hall of fame. Have seen Jackson many times over the years. Have never been disappointed. Saw this show two weeks earlier in Cincinnati (Oct 1, 1976). This recording (in spite of the flaws) brings a flood of wonderful memories. Heard him at the San Jose Civic Auditorium in 1970. He was the warm up band (imagine that!) for Linda Ronstadt. David Lindley sat in with Linda's band. What an incredible night of fabulous music. Musically and lyrically he is a gift to the world.

Cool. Living in The Lowcountry of SC, I didn't get the chance to see him until 4 years ago. I had tickets for The Hurricane Irma relief tour but was in a car accident and couldn't drive for 6 months. Crap...
I saw him there too, opening for Linda. That was '71 or '72 I think? After 'Song for Adam', I turned to my buddy and told him,"that does it - tomorrow I'm gonna buy an acoustic guitar" and I did. Never looked back. Have seen him several times over the years, and he just keeps getting better. Thank you Jackson!
It's funny how some artists' music just "hits" you at the exact time you need it. It's not just coincidental ... I think it's a sort of a soulful connection waiting to happen. When it does --- and also when the life circumstances surrounding you at the time lend a receptivity --- it literally "impresses" a shape on your spirit. And that shape never leaves you. You return to it whenever you want to or need to and it ALWAYS evokes the same feelings, albeit adjusted for your place upon your life's journey. But, speaking for myself, I know if a song made me cry instantly upon first hearing it, then it ALWAYS will ... even after 40 or 50 years! The good artistic stuff ... the REALLY good stuff ... whether Van Gogh, The Beatles, or Jackson, it matters not. The art and the songs are effective, but more importantly, they are "affective"!

I saw a JB- Concert on a cold, foggy Winterday in December 1976 in Heidelberg/Germany, his Birthtown. I really was not in a good mood, had some personal troubles. This concert changed everything completly, after it I felt a complete happiness. I'll never forget this night.
I saw him in 1982 and then recently on May 12, 2022 in Vancouver, BC with James Taylor. I ended up buying all his repertoire I could get my hands on. Holy Hannah, like falling in love for the first time, still can't get enough. I'm tickled pink I went to see him.
Jackson is one of Americas' great songwriters. Lindley is one of our greatest stringed instrument musicians and their talents meld together and add to each other and become something even better than when apart. SWEET concert! Thanks!

My older brother and I drove from Wytheville to Roanoke to get THE PRETENDER the first week it hit the shelves : 84 miles each way, but we didn't get music to the mountains in any timely fashion. I confessed on the way home, " Boyd, I bought 2 copies. " And he smiled, " Me, too. " I still have mine.

We are here for such a short time and then we're gone. Having an extra copy and driving an hour and a half...if only we could get an extra copy of other precious parts of our life like a close friend or family member, so we'd never lose them!

Saw him 2 summers ago, his voice was still incredible. He did so much old stuff it was amazing. He still has it, and seems as sweet as we remember him from the late 70's.

Have seen Jackson Browne every tour down under since he first toured here in the late 70`s. Has never let anyone down in concert in my eyes, but more to the point has blown myself and many others away on numerous occasions. Has always toured with brilliant and classy musicians, including that ragtag mob called "The Section" and the many artists he`s toured down here with; Bonnie Rait, James Taylor, Kebmo etc. etc.
I remember one night at the now demolished Sydney Entertainment Centre Knophler got up on stage to jam with the boys for a couple of songs and the Kootch, Danny Kortchmar blew Knophler all the way back to the old England Town, pretty to watch.
i`ll keep going while Jackson keeps coming, absolute genius, last show at the Sydney Opera House a couple of years ago brilliant, featuring his latest album at the time which is also brilliant.

This brings back so many memories...the concert was during the fall of my freshman year at CSU in Ft. Collins, CO. There was a small record shop, Finest Records right across the street from my dorm where I got introduced to Jackson Browne and Dan Fogelberg, still my two favorite musicians of all time. As others have said, true poet laureates of their generation, and even of all time, I would argue. If you love Jackson Browne, I highly recommend his two volume acoustic album. Pure magic with lots of life wisdom woven in along the way.
I have been a huge fan of Jackson for as long as I can remember! His words in his song has helped me through some really hard times. Especially through the death of my husband!! THANK YOU JACKSON BROWNE, I LOVE YOU 💘

Been a fan of JB since the beginning, his lyrics just seemed to speak to me, but I guess we all feel like that. I was stuck in a declining marriage when I heard the song Late for the Sky, and it somehow made things clear to me, especially the lines: I don't know what I loved in you, I don't know what you loved in me; maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be....
What amazed me then, and still resonates today, is that he and I are the same age, yet he had all this insight to life when he was in his early 20s! I expected to learn life's lessons from my parents and others who had lived long enough to experience how to deal with the difficulties we inevitably run into. How did he get all this life experience at 24?? Kind of made me feel like I was a child and he was the wise old man at the mountaintop. Very grateful for all these tunes, and this video was fabulous!
grown up music for people who have lived a life. My older sister used to play Late for the Sky a lot when i was growing up. Those songs stuck in my head. Later in life as an adult that record (cd) came into my possession and i started to play it after my first marriage fell apart. The songs came alive and i finally understood what he was singing about - adult stuff. They are still beautiful songs. After the Deluge is just brilliant.

What gift to be able hear Jackson's concert from 1976 when he was first starting out. Thank you for sharing this. Sound quality and video is amazing. I was never able to have experience a live concert when he was just starting out. I was in junior high and and too young to even be aware of his music till I was in my late teens. This performance is so true to that all the albums I have. It's incredible how he captured the songs from his albums so accurately in these early live concerts. So talented and so ahead of his time profound lyrics that I begin to understand more and more the older I get.
Had a chance to attend concert mississippi collisium. , was working at Treasury drugs my best girlfriend had tickets , but couldn't get another best friend who worked with me to work my shift, found out he decided to take my place and went with deb was hurt. For years but hey could I really blame him! Lol

Probably because the audio isn't great quality. So many are used to excellent audio on videos that they forget that this stuff was taped off live TV signals frequently and not high fidelity by any means. And if you compare videos from video cameras just 15 years ago, they look horrible compared to today. This is very good considering all.

Watching this it must have been hard for him to go on tour just 7 months after his wife, Phyllis Major, committed suicide - and less than a year after they had gotten married. That helps explain why he was so unsure when the Pretender album would be released, as he was introducing its title track. Great performance and it's so nice to see and hear Jackson and David Lindley in their younger days. JB is an amazing poet/songwriter, in my opinion. Without RUclips so much of this would be lost in time.

There is something so raw and somber about the feel of this performance. Then I noticed the date, and realized it was about six months since his wife passed on. Boy of Mine is so unbelievable sad, and I don't know how he managed.

I agree. " Boy of Mine”, written well before he knew that his son’s mother would be gone is a heartbreaker. As soon as I hear the words “Boy of Mine” at the beginning I start to melt. I think she (Phillis Major) died in May 1976 and Jackson said that after about 3 months he just had to get back to work. There are 2 or 3 songs on “The Pretender” that seem to be prophetic.

I really miss seeing Jackson Browne in Concert. First time I saw him was Tulsa OK for the Karen Silkwood benefit and it was the late show he played two in a night, such fine music, I will be happy about that night forever.

Wow just stumbled upon this. Jackson Browne is such a great songwriter and has featured so many great players on his albums and his touring band. Always great to see him playing live with the great David Lindley. A friend convinced me to go and see him when he was touring The Pretender in Sydney January 1977. I became a lifelong fan after that show. Maria Muldaur opened for him that night and she was great.

I was at this concert but at SMU. A hall that held about 300 people. I left a different person. He took me to an otherworldly church. I was never the same. It wasn't the first time I saw him and it wasn't the last. It was the smallest. I have no words.

I'm 48 and this is the soundtrack of my childhood. My dad is a huge JB fan. We've traveled all over the place seeing JB in concert. Some of the best times I've shared with my dad as an adult.

The Capitol was a great venue. My friend was a bouncer there so we got into most concerts for free. There was a constant flow of joints during the concerts. Those were the best days of my life. I was heartbroken when the Capitol Theater closed and was later demolished. I guess all good things must come to an end. Concerts now are like more than 10 X the cost of what tickets went for back then. But then again, who wants to go to a concert and see the crap that’s out there now anyway. Peace to all my brothers and sisters from back then. And JB, thanks for the great sound track to my life. Keep the music coming!

Saturate Before Using has christened every home or apartment that I have lived in. First Lp, CD or iTunes album played fully through as I put stuff away. Decade after decade, place after place. Moved into my current home twice, once in the fall of ‘95 and again in the spring of 2010, and of course I turned it on and Saturated Before Using my home.
I wasn't at this concert, but I still have my ticket stub from his concert that year in Toledo, Ohio. It cost me $7.50 and was well worth the $1.60 minimum wage I was making at Burger Chef! Doctor My Eyes, Running on Empty (tour album) and Stay were highlights from my memory.
