    25:23 There was a train at the station right above you, so nobody opened the door on your bus, it was the train making that "Doors Closing" announcement.

      Yup that happens in U.K. where the buses are always late and pay no attention if you are running for the bus!! Once I was running for the bus and I swear the driver saw me but did not stop at the bus stop I was only 10 seconds away!!!!!

    • @Metmovie

      Honestly, as a bus driver myself (Katrineholm, Sweden), it all depends on how late you are (it can be a million reasons why).
      If you are 5+ mins late or more, stopping for 1 running passenger who flags you down is no biggie, because the timetables I run after are quite..generous in the end. You can be like 5+ mins late on the line and you still make it on time in to your terminus.
      But, if you are running let's say 10+ mins late, then a running passenger is not the biggest priority I am afraid. In those situations, the timetable comes first.
      Sure, it can seem like a dick move to leave somone running, but we are not even suppose to pick up passengers who not waiting at a bus stop.

      @@PTDriver-rv2so If they are late you should be at the bus stop already because they have to leave As soon as they pick up everybody

    Usually a "no turn on red" means there is a blind spot on the turn, so if you turn you're not going to see anyone coming until it's to late. So they put the "no turn on red" there to avoid crashes. Also if you're going strait and the person behind you wants to turn, they usually know youre going strait, (you know, commen sense) so they just wait patiently (unless theyre late for work then they start beeping the horn).

    As a bus driver, I always leave either on time or late.. If you leave early, passengers (at least in Norway) will call the bus company and probably get a taxi ride to their destination, which is quite expensive!

      I live in Chicago and they do NOT time the lights. Some lights are timed (not on purpose) so that you hit every red light and there is no way around it. You will be at a red light and the light in front of the light you are at is green. So when you get to the next light it's red

    No turn on red is usually put in when the cross street traffic is at a speed limit in excess of the street you are on, OR that the corner is blind -- ex. cars that are allowed to park on the right hand side of the street on the cross st, but you pull up to the intersection and have an obstructed view of who might be coming down the road.

  • @AndrewLeo_
    @AndrewLeo_ 9 лет назад +3

    At around 17 minutes you ask what bus companies do with large amounts of traffic problems and the thing is with some cities they usually have deviation routes to allow the bus on certain lines to maintain a proper schedule.

  • @kristofnagy2667
    @kristofnagy2667 9 лет назад +2

    +Squirrel No turn on red signs are usually used for intersections that are pretty busy or just hard to get out of. And yes, buses can stay in the right turning lane to go straight and the people behind you just have to wait if they want to turn right on red.

  • @hrmkingesbjorn1789
    @hrmkingesbjorn1789 9 лет назад +1

    @squirrel In some states, such as mine, people are permitted to take a right on red. In some other states, you are permitted to take a left on red. Some prohibit from taking any turn on a red, but the state I am in allows turning right on a red, so the US of A is no stranger to turning on a red light in most states.

    I don't live in Chicago but in Canada we can make right turns at red lights too. Usually if you are in a car, you try to pull up as close as you can to the intersection to give as much room as possible between you and the curb, if there is someone behind you. Although not everyone does that (because you aren't really supposed to). But yah, people just get annoyed but don't honk or anything because they know that the car in front of them isn't allowed to let them through, haha

  • @TheRouterzable

    Paul, you don't have to use the line and terminus input menu at 5:17, all you need to do is set it up on the computer. Unless you're not on that map and you use the ibis. Then you would just type in the route number and line number. Hope I helped. Squirrel

    The indicators don't cancel as the two button on the floor are used for the indicators so when you are driving the bus you rest your foot on the button and release it when you are done.
    The other button is used as a high bean flash.

    The no turns on red thing is often used as a method of reliving congestion in high-traffic intersections where you get a lot of people trying to turn right on a red, thus holding up traffic that has a green light.

  • @simonlund9008

    Actually, in Copenhagen there is a project where the buses "communicates" with the traffic lights so they turn green when a bus comes.

    • @Coolerics2011

    There are a lot of buses in Chicago and a lot of the major streets have multiple bus routes that run down the advantage to which is if you’re trying to get somewhere in downtown Chicago as long as you know the bus system well enough pretty much any bus you get on if it’s a big enough intersection will get you at least somewhat close if not right to where you’re going yeah there’s sometimes late but it Chicago we put up with it

  • @rancidphnk
    @rancidphnk 9 лет назад +1

    The reason why that intersection has a no turn on red is because the crossing lane has a parking lane and it's more dangerous to cross right when you could miss a car coming from the other side.

  • @jackmullin5843
    @jackmullin5843 8 лет назад +1

    The reason some intersections have no turn on red is because the light is set that other cars will be coming through the intersection. This way they stop collisions.

    Squirrel To answer your questions about chicago, 1 Your supposed to be in the the turning lane if you're a bus. The cars behind you will just have to wait if they're turning, 2 At 25:22 it was the L train above that made that noise or voice, & 3 some intersections don't allow you to turn on red because they are a high traffic area prone to car accidents when people try to turn on the light.

His name was Fred Wacker, and the same one that all that stuff in Chicago was named after, although I didn't know that then. He was a really nice man, and humble. I later found out he owned a whole bunch of industrial land in Chicago, and even the land that the Sears tower was on. He's dead now, but you can do a google search for him. 25:25 that wasn't your bus making that doors closing sound that was the elevated train above you. I know that sound from anywhere as I travel and live in the Chicago suburbs

    I live in Chicago and you asked "am I supposed to be in the right lane?" The answer is yes if there are continuous stops on that street. If you were running some other express route so your stops were spread out then you would not be in the very right lane.

    That bus does have a bike rack, it's just folded up. The one on the artic is folded down.

    The bus is always late in Chicago. Then after a long wait, two or three of the same bus come by.

    I drive with the G27 and my bus doesn't move when the throttle and the brake are separate. It makes a idle sound but doesn't move. It only moves when I put the first peddle (accelerator) to throttle/brake.

    You're fine going straight in the right lane. Getting stuck behind a bus is just a fact of life.

    No turn on red is (USUALLY) designated when traffic on the intersecting street is greater

    No turn on red in some intersections is unsafe because of blind spot and how far you have to move into the intersection as well as pedestrians crossing and often times they are put there due to many accidents, mishaps or downtown near police departments which are heavily regulated and where U-turns are prohibited.

    28:16 im from NY but im pretty sure you would get beeped at in Chicago. (I drive school buses and people try to go around me and rush me when im loading/unloading.) Being in a turning lane going straight sometimes you wouldn't unless the drivers behind can read signs or is from that area know that is a bus lane as well (hence the bus lane road marking.) We have bus lanes here in NY we have separate bus lanes and if you are seen in them you get fined.

    Did u know u can play these buses on different maps well it's true it's as simple as copying the map's .Hof files from a different vehicle for that particular map to the vehicle folder of the Chicago city bus and it works for both 40 and 60ft buses
