Very well done. I like how you trimmed the letters to fit the whale exactly. No need to turn the rectangle into a path. It will union ok as a rectangle.
I followed the tutorial exactly but my InkScape doesn't want to do what yours does. I can't Union my blocks and letters and the Intersection won't do anything.
If anything is grouped it will stop it working, so click on ungroup a few times. I've had issues with some operations if cap lock is on, so you could try turning cap lock off - if you have it on. If it's still not working, you could try using path - 'Object to path' first to convert everything to a path - will group the letters so hit ungroup a few times. If still doesn't work, close Inkscape, then try open a fresh document - may be a glitch. Good luck
Have you downloaded the image as a vector graphic? If you have down loaded it in a different format such as PNG, then it won't work - as there won't be any paths to ungroup. Try downloading it again making sure it's as a vector or SVG.
@@CreateForFree I followed the link you provided and used the same file. I've tried everything you suggested and watched and rewatched the video, but it still won't work for me. I was recently approved to purchase a Glowforge Plus for my classroom, and I am looking at different resources for my students to create and design. I though Inkscape might be the one, but if the features don't work for me, it will just waste valuable class time if it doesn't work for them,. Do you have any suggestions for other software that would be easier to use with my new Glowforge?

I will try to make one in the not too distant future, although I don't seem to get much time for making videos so I can't promise when it will be.

@@CreateForFree The whale image you used won't ungroup for me. I've closed and reopened numerous times.
