Thank you for letting your light shine!

I love sitting down with my seed magazines and a cup of coffee while looking at my vegetables grow! Mother natures beauty is breathtaking and very giving.
People always ask me "what do you feed your plants!" I just mulch with wood chips and leaves. My soil was clay on one side and sandy loam on the other and both eat wood chips and a good 6" of leaf mulch twice a year, I rake up a few neighbours oak leaves so it doesn't cost me.
I seen this tip about putting a board on carrot seeds from another youtube video. I tried it and it works great! I started a small wood chip garden, (20 x 20 ft.) I planted fall carrots also and they are doing good. my broccoli is huge. Thanks for your videos! Keep encouraging us and showing us how it's done.
I love watching Tuck dig, pick, harvest his own snacks. He's a cutie. Thank you for producing your videos. I have learned a lot from watching. I am starting my own food forest. I'm having a truckload of wood chips delivered early in the spring.
Anna Bee Jones We found out that the area where we started the food forest belongs to our new neighbors. We have since then started planting fruit trees and berry bushes on a part of our property that we are sure is ours but it needs wood chips.
Hi James, I just started watching your videos a month ago! Very informative and entertaining-- I have learned a lot from you. I had a garden helper too, (my Corgi, who sadly passed away last summer). I called her my "garden inspector," with a special interest in sugar snap peas. She is greatly missed. I have a different method fot germinating carrot seeds. I live in Palmer, Alaska, home of world record giant vegetables, fertile glacial soil and land of the midnight sun. The extra long days impart a special sweetness to carrots and many other vegetables. Because our climate is semi-arid, we have to be extra careful about keeping seeds from drying out, especially carrot seeds. I have had success covering my newly planted and watered carrot seeds tightly with plastic, stapling it tight to my raised beds. Not only does this encouage seedlings to sprout twice as fast, it keeps moose from trodding through it, as well! (They love walking through freshly dug soil.) As soon as most of the carrots have sprouted, I remove the plastic and put stakes around, again, to discourage moose. Last fall I harvested 300 (mostly enormous) carrots from four 2 × 6 raised beds!
It would be great to see some of the seed and tree catalogs and websites you choose and why. I know they are peppered throughout your videos but a one stop "shop" video would be fantastic.

I Love that Tuck picks his own carrots. I've got a Husky that picks and eats my tomatoes, she only picks the ripe ones. Last year I had four sweetie pepper plants that I was allowing the peppers to mature on, one morning I walked out onto my deck to find a perfect pile of peppers. The little Angel had picked ALL of my sweetie peppers that were ripe and left them in a perfect pile for me. ( I wanted to strangle the darling). Which is amazing cuz she loves peppers but she didn't eat them until I said she could. Anyway, maybe she knew better than I that they were ripe. You've got a great gardening buddy there in tuck. Good luck.
Hey James and Tuck! I'm a new gardener, also from NJ! I've learned SO much from you, especially being a neighbors! But my zeal of gardening is H U G E ! Thank you and Tuck for such amazing tips!
When I was little, my dad would pull up a carrot and wipe it on his pants and give it to me to eat, haha... his pants were probably more germy than the soil. I did ok. I loved them. The tops are great in soup. Never have to buy parsley. I just found you, and would enjoy hearing anything about pruners, and varieties. I haven't been gardening, but would like to, so anything is helpful. Great presentation. Thanks for showing us how you do it.
Hi James, your videos are soo much informative, you do them with great spirit. Watching them is a treat to anyone. Keep up and would like to see your seed selection and plan for 2019 👍🏻
Man your yard is big! Such a good size bro. I've been trailing out the timber on carrots and beets, works a treat and stops birds and my cats! Permaculture is where it's at, keep up the good work.
I'm always looking for new places to get good quality seeds. I hate going to the big box stores to pay premium price for low quality. I've gotten good seeds from Seed Savers Exchange and from High Mow, but have put a lot of mo ey into other places that don't have that good of seed.
Nice!! I suggest you do, it worked great for me. Just make sure you got out there after a few days and check on them. So you can take the board off after the germinate, but not to late that they stretch or get stuck in the board 🤣
The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni I didn’t really think about growing carrots but I will next year; and the variety idea is awesome. Your videos got me going. I’ve planted 2 sour would trees for bees, 2 figs and Li and Lang Jujube trees. And have seeds ready for spring with really diff veggies. Can’t wait to “walk” to the grocery store for food this year. LOL!!!!
My Dad was alot like you James. His whole yard was garden from fruit trees to big victory garden with every kind of plant and vegetable especially cucs tomatoes peppers carrots cabbages potatoes peas beans garlic taking large beds. Also colabraobbi rutabegga then grape arbors, peach trees apple trees. Flowers oak trees pines for Christmas trees. Blue berries. And you both share same first name. I love and learned alot from my dad and he would have loved your channel. We miss him.
Thank you, I want to learn to produce my own food. I've subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to learning lots from you. Prosperity to you 👍
I recommend getting a garden shredder for all the woody stuff including sunflower stems etc.. After schredding and combined with enough greens like garden waste or grass clippings, it breaks down quite fast. It also helps to keep your compost loose and aerated.
I'm not sure if you mentioned it & I missed it, but how long do you keep the board on top of the carrot seeds? Also, I would love to go on a virtual seed-selection tour! Thanks so much :)
I mentioned it in the video where I showed how I planted them with the board, I linked it in the description. But I suggest checking after about 4 days or so, and continuing to do so every day after that. You want to take the board off once you see some popping up, cause once you see a few up they should all be germinated and the others just about to wake up 😁
@@jamesprigioni Thanks for the clarification. I'm still confused about how it works with raddish interplanted. Wouldn't they germinate much faster and then be blocked by the board?

Tuck eating 🥕 LOL Cool video I am planting Danvers (carrots) in a grow bag. We have a burn pile in the yard. After burning old branches, I shovel the warm ash into 5-gallon buckets. I mix this with pine bark that I hammer off of old, felled pine trees, and mix both the ash and pine bark with dirt from the ground in areas that are wet, covered with vines ... so .... 1. Warm ash 2. Foraged pine park 3. Dirt Then, after planting and watering, I put the bigger wood chips over it, to insulate the soil. This superheats the soil. I did this same technique with the garden and plants shot up fast. Thank you for this video.

Congrats on an amazing channel, beautiful food forest and for inspiring all of us to be better in so many ways!! God bless you James! It would be awesome to see your process on seed selection and recommended suppliers
Great video! I love growing carrots! I live in Fl so we can grow a Lot all year long. My dog does the same thing Lol. I don't use chemical pesticide either. My garden actually has peppers growing right now, green beans, herbs, radish, watermelon, peas, blueberries, blackberries, lettuce and much more.. I'm hoping to get some support, to be able to donate most of what I grow to people in need. It's a dream I've been working hard to achieve along with homesteading of course! I want a bee hive too!
Your dog is adorable!
James, Irene here , I never have luck with carrots.... I will follow you next year and plant them again... Hope this time they will produce ! thanks for sharing ! Love Tuck,,,, how he ate the WHOLE carrot real fast !!!
Amazing content!
That is just beautiful that Tuck likes carrots. So adorable! 💘 🐕
Hello James! Awesome tips & tricks for maximizing carrot yields-- the use of a wooden board! Very cool!!! Charles :-)
I am SO grateful for your excited, positive attitude, and especially the spiritual element of gardening you share - my little 4 year old boy Theo and I watch your videos every night - it is such a blessing to learn gardening with you and watch Tuck be so adorable! Thank you for letting your light shine!
explain about the wooden board
@@dymondwillow2 that was my question too.
Good luck.
Hi! Love your channel! What are the pruners (and other hand tools) you use? How about a "What's in my kit" -type of video? Keep up the great work!!!!!
Hey James and Tuck! I'm a new gardener, also from NJ! I've learned SO much from you, especially being a neighbors! I try to find gardening tips from my locals and all your videos have been extremely helpful! I'm in zone 7B, and in a townhouse so my gardening is extremely small. But my zeal of gardening is H U G E ! Thank you and Tuck for such amazing tips!
Def do a seed video, I enjoy those.
Sounds good Christopher 👌
Yaaas! Seed video! Shears video! I'm pretty sure there is nothing cuter than watching Tuck forage, omg

Thank you
Thank you
When I was little, my dad would pull up a carrot and wipe it on his pants and give it to me to eat, haha... his pants were probably more germy than the soil.
Checkout Baker creek seed company I just got my 2019 catalog they're al heirloom and a great variety for your garden plants.
Paul Gauchi gets most of his seeds from Fedco and MIgardener- most of their seeds are only 99c
Fedco is a great company!

I had forgotten about that method of planting carrot seeds. Thanks for your video.
You’re welcome A Dom! I’m glad I brought it back to your remembrance 😁
I need to try this with my carrots next year
LOL!!!!
Another great video. Would definitely like to see you post some videos on your process for seed selection.
Thanks for the information... the dog loves carrots also...
Your welcome my friend. Yup! Tuck loves eating the fresh snacks with me 🐕❤️
My Dad was alot like you James.
Go team grow and Tuck ♥️👍
YESSS!! let’s go!
I’d love to see how you decide and select seeds
Thank you, I want to learn to produce my own food. I've subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to learning lots from you. Prosperity to you 👍
I grow 6 different varieties! Some I grow specifically to throw in the juicer 😊 Great video! Thanks!
Tuck is half rabbit!! 😂
Absolutely adorable. If only our kids would be that excited about fresh vegetables. ❤️
tuck is the star of the video
And the star of the channel 🤣🐕
@@jamesprigioni offcourse, he is 🐕, appreciate your work on this channel too, but tuck is a strong contender not so easy to beat
WE LOVE TUCK
I recommend getting a garden shredder for all the woody stuff including sunflower stems etc.. After schredding and combined with enough greens like garden waste or grass clippings, it breaks down quite fast. It also helps to keep your compost loose and aerated.
Hi James, just found your channel. Really grateful, love your ideas, advice and your awesome food forest. Cheers James
That sweet little dog! Tuck seems to eat more vegetables than some people haha
Tuck is the cutest gardening partner! The carrots look great and yes a seed video would be very helpful...Thank You😀
I love it when your dog what's to eat the same food especially the vegetables that you do it is great to see.
@@kjay5587 radishes also mature faster. pulling them out will leave more space for carrots
@@kjay5587 I think the radishes were not interplanted, but had their own row alongside the carrots.
Such a pleasure to watch your video 😊
You are the new Mother Earther and a Wayshower for your generation ☮

Love your enthusiasm, I no longer garden when I am feeling low. I feel the garden deserves my best hyperactive self. Very inspiring.
Please do add sources, seeds and tools
Sounds good Beverly! Thanks for your input and letting me know. I love connecting with you all ❤️
I love Tuck. 💕. So cute that he planted the monkey. So adorable. 🌷🌷🌷
Lol! Monkey Seeds! Love it! I was wondering what the heck those are.
Tuck eating 🥕 LOL
Cool video
I am planting Danvers (carrots) in a grow bag.
We have a burn pile in the yard. After burning old branches, I shovel the warm ash into 5-gallon buckets. I mix this with pine bark that I hammer off of old, felled pine trees, and mix both the ash and pine bark with dirt from the ground in areas that are wet, covered with vines ... so ....
1. Warm ash
2. Foraged pine park
3. Dirt
Then, after planting and watering, I put the bigger wood chips over it, to insulate the soil. This superheats the soil. I did this same technique with the garden and plants shot up fast.
Thank you for this video.
Im new to your channel but love it. And Im so excited to find a gardener also in New Jersey. What do you do with your strawberries over the winter? I went from containers to a whole patch now from volunteers. I see you dont have them covered. I added loads of leaves and covered some with uv cloth. What will you be doing with yours?
That was the cutest thing... tuck grabbing that carrot! Super adorable!
My wife now let's me know when you've posted a new video haha!
James all I can say is I’ve always loved this channel. I’m now going thru a divorce with children involved has been awful but I can tell you your videos have helped me more then you know

Sounds good Dion! Thanks for the input brother
No probs. Love the videos by the way. You've taught me so much and lead me to many useful information from all your references.
