I always love your humour. And music. One thing I'd like to add for the calipers, the step dimension. the difference between the two head parts. (the opposite of the depth gage)
Great start with Starrett & Mitytoyo (not sure about the cheapo one though) and they look like the ones I used in high school in the mid 90's too. I have a Brown & Sharpe set now. Didn't know about the blue blade or the tightening on the top of the handle versions. Figured I'd share, didn't know, unremarkable (amazing how bringing digital color calibration and use adds to the challenge), didn't know, didn't know (reminded me of french curve sets too), didn't know. Thanks for sharing!
Regarding colour swatches, I would strongly recommend getting a set of RAL and NCS swatches. both are more limited in scope than Pantone but reflect actual chemical colour possibilities from paint, powder coat and plastic manufacturers. Having worked in the furniture industry for 22 years I know first hand how Pantone is simply a hindrance for getting the right colour matches in production. The RAL system especially is the best for powder coating and wet spray lacquer. So if you are an industrial designer those are my essential colour swatches. Also, be aware that Pantone has a third system for textiles which is really useful for carpets, rugs, bags and a lot of other industrial textile products. Finally, some special materials such as variants of Corian, MDF, and oil stains come in their own limited colours so if you use any specially made materials like these then get a colour swatch set from the exact brand that your manufacturing partner has access to. I have spoken ...... all the way from Denmark :-) ... and a HUGE THANK YOU for excellent skills videos on techniques many designers seem to have lost.
This was neat! You gave a lot of good information with a lot of very interesting ideas for making drawings so much better. Thanks for sharing this and stay safe.
Nice! Just wondering why you link to the Pantone Formula guide on Amazon? Are the mixing ratios useful to know for industrial designers? If you do print design you usually want the Color Bridge (has Pantone spot colors and CMYK approximations of each) or the Process Guide (examples of different CMYK combinations).
@@EricStrebel some eq and general sound processing can help out next time. Getting decent sound is pretty easy, as long as we have neural listening device. One that doesn't enhance base, or voice, or too heavy to be driven by the computer. Perfect sound, now that's another story 😊
Are xacto blade better than surgical blade? Even if surgical blade wear out quicker, you can buy more of them for the same price. Funny thing about them is, they perform mediocre on anything but human skin.
Man those ellipse templates cant be 20 years old... or you havent used them regularly. They look like new! Avoid templates gals and guys free-hand rules.
I worked with Eric 20 years ago. Same stuff. He runs a clean and orderly shop, which is conducive to both safety and efficiency. I think it's a Swiss thing.
Love the hardened xacto blades. Thought they would just be a gimmick but they are superior.
The plastic mesh bag material is called, “Vexar”. It comes in many weights and sizes. It’s used for underwater research cages, among other things.
One of my favorite tools that wasn't on your list is MASKING TAPE.
Ok, I will give you that...I actually don't own any masking tape, just blue tape and regular artist tape
@@EricStrebel Yeah, you can use blue tape in the same way.

I found Micro Mark has some good tools, especially for model building.
A few years ago, I switched xacto knives to a olfa sac-1 utility knife with 30 degrees blades. This is much more practical, you should give it a try !
I will investigate, thanks for the tip!

This video made me want to design something.
Awesome, thanks for your comment and support

Thanks for your comments, very much appreciate, that you have spoken!
I freaking love my silver sharpies!
Great tips. Thanks!
Awesome video! Very well made and well told. Thanks for the inspiration!
Brian Mansour Thanks man! Hopefully next time there won’t be a pandemic going on to foil our plans!

This video was really well done, and I feel it will be a great hook for new viewers. Good work.
Thanks, I spent a long time on it
2:15 Eric, you didnt mention that the opposite set of jaws of the calliper can be used to measure the inner diameter of pipes, holes, etc
actually I did mention that.
@@EricStrebel Ah, your'e right, my mistake
You left off the single most important tool. Vision. The ability to see what the customer wants.

Pantone is used because everyone has one, it's a base and still has to be matched by eye, not a perfect system, but it's a start.
7:43 man that BGM, I want it. What track is that?
A fitting tribute to our favorite master maker in a galaxy far far away ....
Thank you for your kind words and support Tony!
Texture plates? Manga artists used a similar thing (screentone?) all the time.
interesting!
Great video, very helpful. Recording video in your sound booth is cool. Need to make me a pouch for all my templates. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thanks for watching!
Where can you get texture plates? I'm guessing fabric stores?
Make them out of whatever you have around ort find
"I have spoken" :) :) :) - You are super mega-great Eric Strebel! Congratulation!
Thank you! 😃
Hi Eric, I’ve enjoyed your channel for some time now but never realised you had such a great sense of humour 👍😊
Keep makin’ and keep rockin’ 😎
Like the tribute metamorphis.. stay safe Eric..
Thanks you as well, thanks for the comment and support
Good reference to 48 hours.
#7!
Eric's going stir crazy. LOL ;)
😛😛🤘👍
I like how you creatively approach sound design. This time it's very tinny ;)
Sound was terrible on that video, upgraded mics right after that.....

Perfect sound, now that's another story 😊
Just a crappy lav and set up in those shots, got a nice rode unit, sound much improved now in current videos
Excelent

I find that to be true as well.
Space 1999 vibe.

After I've watched this, I went to do some shopping, I've found everything closed !
Stupid pandemic
Online is safer right now! Be careful and have fun.....I have spoken 😄
You overlooked a scarf. All good designers have scarves.
LOL, yes, apparently they do, even the Ugnaugt designers 😀
Mixed feelings in this video. Everything seems legitimate, but the date, oh Lord, the date.
😄😄
Because you don't need a pencil/pen right? :p
I have clicked ;)
Thank you, much appreciated
You've designed
Awesome, thank you 👍
Batteries for pandemic😂
Why the heck is ellipse guide so expensive?
Good question! Not sure...😒
Limited market. Especially after CAD
I do not think so. Since I was an architecture student in the 90s, those templates were expensive.
You left off the French Curves
Sharpie on paper 🤢🤮
Makes a terrible screeching sound

So... if you are colour blind you can't be a designer?
So if you’re 5’6” tall you can’t be in the NBA?
