Born in 72 and became a wrestling fanatic in 78 as a kid in Charlotte area. Tommy was the only ref I knew that existed lol.

This was an unbelievable interview. Tommy Young was always my favorite referee. The Ric Flair - Tommy Young face offs were classic.
As far as Steamboat's face in the Flair/Steamboat program, I read somewhere that they had to get sandpaper to mess up Steamboat's face after the fact.
Its true . Harley Race sandpapered his f ace with several different grits

Tommy's brilliance was being a referee instead of acting like a referee. "Dropping iin," I believe actors call it.

totally best ref ever he had a spot where the heel would push tommy and tommy would sit em the hell down...and was surly and appeared to agitated with the heels even b4 match starts...tommy and peewee my favs ever
Fans coming into the ring? Larry/Curt Henning against the Road Warriors in AWA Minnesota. Warriors hang Curt by the ropes when he was twisted in it by his neck. Road Warriors beat on him, the fans rioted, Warriors were fighting their way back towards the locker rooms in the back, but then Hawk flinched towards the crowd, the entire crowd backed off!
Does anyone know how much a ref in the biggest promotions actually make? Its gotta be peanuts, right?

Read Ole's book he's hilarious. He recounts almost firing Tommy over getting into a shoving match with Rick Flair where Rick (nwa champ at the time) takes a bump on his ass over by the turnbuckle. He went ballistic that the ref lol was getting the better end of the champ. There was something else about drizzlin shits and asses from holes in the ground but not directed at Tommy. I don't know, maybe he thinks so but that's what makes him Ole.
One of my favorite referees of all time. Charles Robinson and Bronco Lubich are the other two.
