The Greatest Sonic Boom I've Ever Done

- Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today I am taking on a sonic boom challenge unlike any I have done before. I want to break the sound barrier inside of Hulrum. The atmosphere is enclosed in a small space, meaning it would be extremely unlikely to be able to generate Mach speeds inside of the planet. There is however the option of flying at the planet at Mach speed in an attempt to enter one of the tiny tunnels leading into the atmosphere. Is this even possible though?

About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

ya they realy are :D
I humbly request more of these.

nice tari pfp 👌

To be fair we dont know how much they get paid, in other words they might actly be getting good paid out of this
@@thatotherguy3756 True, just saying that the editor did a fenomal job
9:15
I love how the editor used inspirational music, timed the drop while ScrapMan entered the planet giving us a motivational feeling that makes us feel like it’s possible to do a sonic boom in there
The round asteroid has an atmosphere as well, so it’s safe to say you haven’t broke the sound barrier in all atmospheres... *_yet_*
he speaks the truth
I was wondering about the round asteroid when ScrapMan was making his run on the space station. Maybe he'll take care of that when he measures the speed of blaster fire.
doesn't the round asteroid have gravity but no atmosphere?
@@redmdlee actually, you have a point, _but idk_
No, it doesn't have an atmosphere. Gravity and atmosphere are different things
I appreciate the editor's edits.
It's funny how scrapman doesn't know that gravity effects his spacecraft, when he is backing up.
I love how building in space allows you to make much more impractical but cool looking builds :)
"I damaged myself with my own lasers!" There was a notorious case of a supersonic US fighter which flew faster than its own bullets and managed to shoot itself down.
Something I've learned while updating my builds to incorporate the new blocks is that the functionality of quantum rudders isn't strictly limited to space, they actually provide quite a bit of directional dampening even on the non-space maps (or anywhere there's atmosphere). Quantum rudders don't provide lift, so they don't outright replace wings, but they do provide a specific kind of "flight-permitting" drag which allows you to make aerial vehicles that are surprisingly stable without a single wing (assuming you can get them off the ground without wing lift)
I had a Star Wars A-Wing build that's been on ice forever because it was a nightmare to balance properly, but 4 quantum rudders and a low-power gyro later and now it flies almost perfectly on non-space maps. Same goes for my Halo banshee build, I had gotten it to a point with previous mechanisms where it was certainly usable but still temperamental, now it's one of my most stable flying vehicles alongside my updated Jedi starfighter
I'm sure most people will focus on space stuff since it's new and really fun to mess around in, but I highly recommend experimenting with quantum rudders on traditional aerial vehicles just to see how it changes their flight characteristics because it's been very interesting so far
10:28 Scrapman just discovered quantum tunneling! lol🤣
nice
@@Carma281 Random... lol
You could do a multiplayer battle between vessels that have to fight on the first round on the sea and then in the second round in space, without modifications between rounds.
Space Battleship Yamato.
Can you imagine the chirpos reaction to the sonic boom inside of Hulrum?🤪
I'd prefer to imagine the Chirpo's reaction to the sonic boom at Galina 9!
@@semajniomet981 This. I can't help but to wonder what they were thinking but too kind to say about a Trailmaker Sonic Booming into the Galina 9 Dock and risking Pancaking one or two of them... XD
Cool to see the editors notes again
Now can you break the speed of sound 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 in Holrum? And, if that is too simple, also stop again without damaging the craft?
This was an excellent video, and love the editors comments and knowledge boxes, excellent work on those.
Man, music makes everything. And the timing is perfect.
Hey scrap I really appreciate y'all doing the idea I had for multiplayer, it turned out awesome and super goofy, and I loved your ship design, reminds me of the peeper from subnautica if it swam backwards, I actually had another goofy idea, remember your "nonmoving rocket" project?, what do you think would happen if you fired a rocket or cannon shot while travelling at the same speed backwards in space, ie. Zero g, would the cannon or rocket just float like a mine or would it blow up after a while or would it bug out and detonate instantly?
You should do a 2v2 dogfight but it’s 2 people per plane. So like of shoots and one steers or there a rear gunner like on a dauntless dive bomber or something. Love your vids!
Thank you for having such an amazing editor I have been watching for a while now like back when we made that big tree house special for discord and I have always loved your videos plz never stop making them. You a real one man keep it up.
Your editor is so dedicated. Good job man
For science: can you sonic boom into the space station?
Watch until the end
If you threw some aero-parts on that craft you could totally fly through and OUT of Hulrum
If you are trying to line something up, I find a camera set with a 0 degree movement range and the lowest fov possible basically acts like a zoom camera, centred to your craft.
I would love to see the effects of hoverpads in space or when entering a planet
Yes
Just try it yourself
@@nightmyares1214 I don't have Trailmakers. I have wanted to get it but my laptop has problems that take time to fix. That is why I can't. Sorry
Doesn't work, hover pads need to be close to the ground to work unless you use a glitch.
@@ShadowWolf2508plays Ah interesting I assume they only work on planets then. So maybe when entering a planet they could slow you down. Thank you.
Looks exciting! 😊
I love the information bulb that are popping up, great work
I'd like to see an air to air battle inside one of the planets
5:07 I know this problem
These rocket thrusters need full 10 second for full power. Cooldoown is pretty much the same, so if you enter build mode with thruster activated or not cooled down enough, he will keep this power output for some time after you spawn. When you add new thruster or copy old one, it will not transfer this power, thats why it was spinning.
Its the same thing when you hoverwing with 4 of these, one gets destroyed and you repair, now this one thruster lost its power and need another 10 seconds to get to max power.
All clear?
This is a historical moment of Scrapman (nice video)
Id like to see all these hit in one pass with no wercks, have to pull a u-turn at holrum and finish at the station but could be an intersting chalenge or race
"does this look perfectly straight to you?" - scrapman says as he adds rainbow makers
this man is now a certified true sonic boomer.
I wish more people played enough to find people to build with
i don't know who the editor that makes the notes is from. but this is a metric system channel!! but really, great work with the annotations very informative!!
Love the background music, what's the song called?
Also as always great video scrapman and great explanations editor!
Lots of different tracks. If you play it on your computer and ask google assistant on your phone what the song is, it can usually determine it even with Scrapman talking
@@01Beaker I didn't realize it was a bunch of different tracks but that's cool thanks!
I'll give that a try, thanks!
I broke my ship in half and I proceeded to create a feed back loop to the point where I was fly at 32,000 mph and smashed into hulrum creating a sonic boom in space 🚀💥🪨
Btw the bomb bays are hilarious in space, they could maybe be a fun weapon for space battles.
I just made my first space ship today, had to dump the gyro stabilacers, they just made my craft unruly.
15:08 idk why but i laughed becouse i knew what is going to happend
Dunno what music they pulled for this vid, but I feel like I'm in a Disney movie right after he beat the challenge.
This isn't part of the space update, but you should make a "shotgun" jet that when it reaches the sound barrier it breaks off into pieces all going the same speed.
HA LETS GO FINALLY SOMEBODY REALISING THAT UOU CAN STILL BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER JUST LIKE I DID
hulrum is a very fun name becasue the devs are danish and hul rum means something that is hollow inside
Can we get this man a Gold RUclips Play Button
4V4 with Dev But one team has fighters the other team has a Yamato battleship from the anime and then Each team swaps vehicles
a battle between rovers, that are upside down (downforce), on top of a celing like in hulrum, first to have no weapons/disocnnected/fall off the celing loses, should be pretty fun
when you realized that you almost survived I was thinkimg you are going to try to do it without crashing :-D that would have been the 2 hour recording that you were expecting :-D
I'd love to see what the "old" parts are like in space. You already used the jet engines in space, and that was cool; and we know propellers don't work. What about those short bust rocket engine, Dragon Engines I think they are called? They have great acceleration... does that carry over to space? What about the hinge glitch? Will that still work? Will you get INSANE speeds?! What about other things, like cannon balls? No gravity means no drop off... Cannon balls with your piston booster... what's their acceleration / accuracy like? What about Rockets? Will they still have drop off? What's their speed like? If you are going fast and shoot your rockets, will your momentum carry over and make the rockets really fast too, or is their speed capped and you'll fly passed them? What about hover pads and the hove glitch? What about miniguns in space? What kind of damage do they do to shields? Same for rockets, do they just destroy shields considering in the floating islands expansion that was their role (destroying shields)... WHAT ABOUT BOMBS? Will they fall? Will they have momentum? Or will they just float behind you like a mine-field?!
Show us older parts in space, please!!
@scrapman I loved your new video "Do Normal Weapons Work Normally In Space?". It covered a lot of the suggestions I made here, 2 days ago! The quick fruition of the suggestions was a really cool coincidence haha! You should also test the effects of your piston launcher on the projectiles in space too, maybe it'll change the 3500 weirdness limit, if the velocity of the projectile is increased via piston power.
You forgot to break the sound barrier in the asteroid field, the place you built an orbital jetpack
The sound design is very nice.
Now you should make a very aerodynamic spacecraft and try to maintain as much speed as possible while flying through doon or other planets
lazer are plazma. to make it simple, just imagine a fire soo hot a firecamp feel like the middle of winter in the north pole. Yes fire is a kind of plazma since there is no max temperature possible or know for it and some of it's recorded temperature would make any object know to human vaporize in a fiew second. by that it is easy to mix lazer pointer and actual lazer "weapon" (nobody completely made Lazer weapon but there is way to make plazma gun, they just jave a reach soo useless and need such a big system they can only shoot once and have less reach than a todler with a spoon)
You'd be surprised how long of a reach that actually is...
@@v3ry0riginalN4me the only one i saw had a reach of less than 1 decimeter
I love the little fact edit very edifying
Y’all should do Capital Ship battles, I made a few almost max complexity ship for larger battles. :)
Now we need to see a battle where you launch a missile from space into atmosphere at the other players land vehicle.
He didn't do it in every atmosphere, there's still the asteroid.
You should make a huge catapult in scrap mechanic, been watching since the piston update, I miss the old times.
Theres still the asteroid in the big asteroid cluster that could be able to have the sound barrier broken
RESPECT IN CHAT FOR SCRAPMAN AND EDITOR
you forgot the orbitals asteroid 😂😂😂
After I saw kAN video I knew scrapman was going to be making a video about this next.
Im surprised scrapman didn’t discover the sonic boom last video ..
you should try if you can break the sound barrier on the giant astroid with gravity.
Multiplayer idea: propeller plane aircraft battles in and on the various planets.
Uh oh... break the sound barrier in the space station.
YOU DIDN´T TRY THE ASTEROID FIELD !!!
VIDEO IDEA Hey scrapman, remember that video where you build that all in one vehicle, with the truck wheels? Try too rebuild it but for space, high sea and land wall klimbing, fly and hover proposed. Maury even with a mod you can build it with youzi
Sorry I mean maybe you can build it with youzi
Scrapman: Im not gonna do it.
Universe: You're gonna do it.
*Noclips*
Can you detonate explosives inside a contained shield?
did you know that hulrum is a word i danish meaning "
space surrounded by solid or dense material on (almost) all sides and often air-filled"
Something funny is that my phone is broken so everything that is ment to be red is now gold
you should try to attach yourself to an asteroid and have a battle with it maybe by throwing it at other people ( love you videos so much hope my idea works )
I don't think the player can move them.
wow he made it so emotianl some how
You have some of the best videos!
Try breaking the sound barrier using the quantum drive kosmo built!
Super sonic catapult.
It's a thing IRL.....sorta.
Do the different atmosphere densities change the speed necessary for breaking the sound barrier?
I want you to think about it this way. Why would sound travel at different speeds in different atmosphere density, its sound. All this is just to help you.
@luca8409 um, you know in real life, the speed of sound is different at ground level as opposed to high altitudes right? That's because of the difference in air density. I was wondering if the game simulated it properly or not
Challenge idea: try throwing debris at the speed of sound, something like a shotgun shooting pellets at speed of sound, multiple sonic booms
Scrap man, bombs in space act as mines just so you know
I’m getting trailmakers tomorrow!
Because it slows you down so much, you shoul try entering one side entrance at sonic boom speed and making it out the other side exit.
make a rover that sticks to an Asteroid with zero gravity (the Asteroid must have zero gravity)
I don't think it is possible, but there is more gravity in Asteroid Cluster next to Gallina 9
None of the "planets" in space bound are planets by definition. First they all aren't round, all of them have flat tops or bumpy surfaces. The most planet object is the sphere in the middle of the asteroid field. Though that can't be either from the asteroids surrounding it.
People who say games decrease your knowledge
Me: Trailmakers, JUNO new origins, KSP
You should try and make something that can go through every single one
Great video keep up the good
It would be funny but hard to have a sonic boom missile battle
YA YOU DID IT scrapman
it would be pretty cool to see beyblades but floating in space
If this is a new editor, I really like them. So happy previous editor that did all those cheesy tiktok style edits is gone
Do bombers vs defenders but the in space and the defenders use emps and the bombers go in an angle going down to drop the bombs while the defenders try to trigger them midair and the bombers have 1 shield and 2 dynamite so the defenders can win
I've done it by slapping a big rocket engine on a seat with stabilizers and went straight through hulrum at about 3 thousand miles per hour and broke the sound barrier, but I guess it doesn't count because I glitched through the planet also please if your reading this Srcrapman please bring back colony survival
SUP conner
You guys should use your space ships and fight next to the aircraft carrier
I did it by strapping the small space thrusters to the space cockpit and then went super fast and glitched through the surface of Hulrum and broke the sound barrier know it's cheating but still did it
Everyone loves this editor it appears
I'd like to see some kind of ultra shield super defense ship thing
You need to break the sound barrier in Galina 9
9:17 13:39 Gotta credit editof for chosing music. Anyone know what is this score?
9:17 is "Goliath" by Dream Cave
13:39 starts with "A Pure Force" by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen as he's approaching, then changes to "To the Ends of the Earth" by Edgar Hopp when he enters
My man!
@@01Beaker
Still waiting for space tanks
You should try going mach speed through an asteroid field
