About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

You know what would be fun to see now?
Orbital canon against car, but you can’t judge based on the car’s orientation
Put secondary wheels on the inside of the rotating blocks, so that when the regular wheels turn into the inside, the secondary wheels turn outside which keeps the car stable.
I was thinking this too
I was internally screaming this the entire time
yeah this was my first thought when he realized he had an issue too, it could also really use suspension
this would also help the car look normal when going "backwards"
@@AgemoMath same 😭
Fun fact, in robotics, there's a concept called a swerve drive, which is basically this. The advantage of this kind of drive train is that it allows linear translation without rotating the body of the vehicle, along with being able to rotate.
came here to comment this as well, it was so funny when he started rotating around while moving
I was about to mention swerve drives
We use them in FRC
I was thinking bumper cars honestly
@@Moose_Master yeah, I did ftc in highschool
@@itayvolk same, bro just reinvented swerve drive.
Ok, THIS style of driving car with weapon combat is going to be HILARIOUS.
LOL I just said almost the same thing before seeing your comment. Make the weapons fixed in place on the vehicle, so you are aiming with A and D to rotate the vehicle, but you drive like this.
@@Nevir202 I think keeping left/right aiming also mouse- dependant (but this time with some autoaim added) might be more fun and confusing to other participants... The whole "this car is driving regular forward and the gun is facing their hood, it won't suddenly drive towards me" aspect of glitching a person's brain might be enough.
It's actually _very_ reminiscent of the Speed Racer live action movie.
I thought the same thing 😂
Yeeeeeeee I hope they do it next Monday
10:50 MOTORCYCLE WHEELS have the same size (at least in the grid) and have better traction. Also the other day I was looking through the workshop (so before you uploaded this video) and saw this and was so confused. Edit: I have been informed that motorcycle wheels are bugged and will wreck your car when going over map seems so I guess slim wheels are indeed the best option without widening the wheelbase
Every wheel type besides the slim wheel is bugged and sinks into the ground which makes transitioning across map seems wreck your car.
@@Spore_Spawn i did not know that I'll edit my comment
I was just about yelling that while watching. I did put the moto wheels on. It's still fun.
What did he name it? I want to download it
@@Kmcda it's the "Infinite forward car" it's near the end of the video
10:50 “I wish there was a slim wheel with better traction”
Motorcycle wheel: “am I a joke to you?”
I know he doesn't use motorcycle wheel
might i suggest the infinite forward spaceship?
for style, maybe make it look like an asteroid or comet, and fill it with smoke trail makers to give it the appearance of it streaking across space.
Yup, infinite forward spaceship would be even more of a challenge. Not just because you have to decide how you stack the two aiming servos. But also because you don't have any drag in space, so you'd need to use quantum rudders. Either at the center of mass (so that they don't work like tail fins), or together with the thrusters on the aiming servos.
I made something like that too, but mine has 8 wheels (two on each servo) and looks like a red hockey puck.
Yours is much better though
15:06 Me behind my girlfriend in IKEA pushing the basket
Hello from FRC team 2679 ATLANTIS! I'd recommend looking into FRC swerve modules, as this is literally what we use on our robot. An example would be the SDS MK4i swerve module.
this feels like a commercial for a fictional scifi company, i love it
@xymaryai8283 my guy this is real
@@KingOfTheKindle I personally liked the angled omni wheels, but that's just because it was the first type of omni drive bot I had ever really seen, and I helped build it all those years ago.
@@tttbk-r6r mechanum drive! That's also quite cool.
6:18 SM:" So I pretend to be a normal car here"
Also SM after 1 sec: " Does a sick kickflip "
As a Forklift Operator this design would be so handy. Reminds me of an improved version of a Combi-Lift, which has 3 wheels you can rotate 90 degrees to swap between forwards/reverse and Left/Right.
the motorcykle wheel is a slim wheel with good tracktion
12:46 your car was pointed up, so flying like this also counts as infinite forward
Cool thing about this idea is that this design is very similar to FRC First robotics drive trains called swerve drive. you can drive foward and rotate at the same time super awesome video scrap.
Thinking 🤔
Derby using infinite forward on random 5-10 sec intervals(timer connected to brake or gas with resets timer?) Maybe have emp firing from all sides when you collide, for more quaos.
Or maybe to hard.
11:41 I never expected to see an ar12 video in a scrap man video 😅
Of course
I wonder if you could use these camera trackers to make beyblades lean in your mouse direction. Maybe have the output go into a gyro that makes it lean a few degrees. That way you could have some control over the beyblades, maybe even dodge and stuff.
I am on a FRC robotics team and we have our robots on swerve drive which is basically what you made in this video
I’d love to see you adapt this into a “T-180” like in Speed Racer (2008). Basically just add a jet engine and spin the car around to steer. That said, a proper T-180 would have to have complicated logic to make the wheels actually steer instead of just facing in a given direction.
If you need a visual, look up “Speed Racer Thunderhead”, that’s generally the best showcase.
I wish the devs would add a “prograde servo” that automatically faces in the direction you’re moving in. All you’d have to do from there is add some steering servos on the bottom of those and you’re pretty much golden! There’s probably some logic you could do to make it even better but it would definitely work!
11:41 the instant I saw that Subaru I thought of AR12, and then I read the little caption and it was actually an AR12 video lol
14:05 it’s like you’re moving toward the horizon in a plane and suddenly pitch up. The plane wants to continue toward the horizon due to inertia, but the air resistance is trying to correct the movement to the new orientation. In this scenario, when the car is moving towards the ramp, the wheels are “deflecting” the “air,” causing it to turn away from the ramp, even if the wheels are facing a new direction.
Day 2 of asking for a battle where you each make a vehicle of your choice unknown to the other players.
This might lead to a tank, a submarine, and a helicopter in a battle, so you would have to prepare a way to combat any threat.
In case of an OP build, you can let the losers have some more power cores and blocks to try and even the playing field.
With two engines, you could have set one engine so that it's only tied into the front wheels. That would pull the front of the car more strongly in the direction that you're going, straightening out the car automatically.
You should have added a steering help to the aiming servo like you did on your hower craft so it does not drift so much. Nice concept btw.
I love this! It's how I roll spinning suitcases through the airport.
Anyway, I set out to add traction, found out that makes it worse.
Nice swerve drive. FRC robots use these a lot
5:30 it happens because the weight is in the back, it essentially works like an arrow, the rear tires have more weight on them, creating more drag and keeping the car in that orientation.
Oh, now you _have_ to use this for the Dethrone multiplayer.
Make everyone try it out.
THE AD I GOT BEFORE THIS VIDEO DESTROYED MY LEFT EAR
Now do this in a multiplayer Monday where it is a race with weird obstacles that would only really be easy with a car like this. You use this car (or build another) but hide the fact that it isn't normal as long as possible. The moment they realize what is happening will be priceless!
18 minutes and 38 seconds of Scrapman forgetting about motorcycle wheels
Haha, you should invite your friends to a race with this car. The twist: The infinite foreward is toggled on and on at random and they don't know about it. I expect maximum carnage.
ar12 cameo was not something i expected lolol
Sweet ride, looks like the car is breakdancing while in motion. ^_^ 👍
Ive built this in scrap mechanic (kind of its a first person rig so) instead it uses wasd to move any direction and you use the camera to turn the whole creation
you should have just pulled this idea in a random multiplayer battle xD.
Most creative concept i think youve made
Saturday morning “cartoon”
Scrapman, this needs to be an episode of multiplayer. Do 1 round of Dethrone with you using this mechanic and no one else knowing about it. After that round, EVERYONE has the caster-steering mechanic slapped on their vehicles and that's the gimmick for the video. But 1 test round to see how they react to not having it and then have everyone have it. THIS NEEDS TO BE A DETHRONE EPISODE!!!!
id love to see a gag car race for multiplayer. everyone makes a car that has something unexpected, like steering direction changes, random wings pop up to slow you down, steering is weird, etc. Then you trade cars each round and race. :)
At the 4 min mark, when you're trying to figure out the steering/wheel width issue: do a trike setup - "front" starts wide, goes narrow when turned arround; rear starts narrow, goes wide when turned
The wheels are like 1 block off to the side of the aiming block. If you arranged it so that the wheels are directly under the aiming block it wouldn't change their position as much when looking sideways and backward.
Btw you should make a car that only has the front wheels controlled by the camera, that would surely make an interesting driving experience.
16:00 Interesting to see that it seems to balance out when the front and back wheel are perfectly lined up.
The Most Speed Racer-ish Car Scrapman's made yet
This is the culmination of all of humanity's pursuit of science: the omnidirectional clown car
You should totally bring that into a Multiplayer Monday without telling anyone about it and just pretend it's a normal car the whole time until the end.
Only thing I can think for the slight turn is that your Center of Mass is more like a liquid, if you go forward the Center of Mass is pushed back slightly, most won't be able to notice it bc well, it takes a lot of power to notice it but I think it's a combination of that and your wheels having more traction than the rest
(For an example of that I ment about the Liquid Center of Mass, is that if you use a mod and force a Large Thruster to go beyond any speed possible in the vanilla game, you'll see that the center of mass isn't centered on the Large Thruster, the side with the engine aesthetic is the heavier side, even though in Build mode it'll show almost dead center)
You can also check the center of mass by going into space and enter building mod right after (or before) warping from one side of the map to the other (sometimes)
It would be cool to add steering servos above the aiming servos on the front so that it steers normally until you toggle office chair mode.
The car kinda reminds me of a similar car you had built in Scrap Mechanic with the wedge on the side, i think you should use this car for a battle against whoever you think you should do this with and like you said, without telling them how the car works to see their reaction lol
Oooh you can make wheeled vehicles strafe with this set up
Hey scrapping, I've built a fee of these before. Using the airplane landing wheels works best. The have a top mount, and they're even perfectly even. No more motorcycling, or leaning!
One thing that could have been interesting (for a software dev like me), is to use some logic to register the orientation of the cam, make the body very fixed depending of the registered position. And it would actually fix a small issue he got (and maybe not even feel it) : his wheel are not // : they take different direction to reach the same point (I'm actually curious to know if it orient the same angle or orient on a point of focus). Anyway, by putting a "center" angle detection, he could have use a lot of the new logic bloc.
I am uncomfortable watching it converge.
srapman you neeeeeed to make a drift cart with this concept 😂
Scrapman needs to build this in a multiplayer Monday and confuse everyone
I want to see you use this in a multiplayer battle.
Weapons have to be fixed in place to the body of the vehicle, facing "forward" but you use this method of driving LOL
9:56 You can add tail fins to it so it can straighten itself depending on which direction you go.
Should have used motorcycle wheels
You could also just add a second wheel to each aiming servo. One on the inside half and one on the outside half. Then you make the wheel base wider to prevent collisions, and bam! It's perfect!
Thanks!
Make an air plane that can only use mouse control then fight to the death.
Bro transcended physics itself.
Also, we could call this build, a Schrödinger Car.
The car version of when a cat arches their back and moves at you sideways
The title made me think he is going to reinvent the Warthog from Halo in Trailmakers. But this is much funnier looking than I expected... If I had to guess, It looks more like the Batmobile from Arkham Knight in tank mode....
8:09 Todd Howard would be proud
I want to see this car do a race, not necessarily to get a fast time but rather if it 'has" potential to compete against glitch vehicles
For those wondering if this exists irl. Yes.
It's called swerve drive, often used in robotics competitions(especially FRC)
Disney also uses it in some of their rides, that fo off track.
Super interesting drivetrain!
You could have a “No test drive” race series. Where the builder of the vehicle has a built in quirk and the other players don’t know what it is until the race or challenge starts.
This is called swerve drive
Scrapman you should use this next time you guys have a obstacle course or king of the crown for multiplayer Monday 👍🏽 it'll really trip up kahhn and moonbow
How did he forget the even sized landing gear wheel and slim motorcycle wheel? Are they just that unpopular?
This is kind of what i suggested yesterday, but then with an forward facing stationary gun and as a pvp battle, or as an race
Oh Scrap... the rotation is aerodynamic. ;)
You should add some rear vertical stabilizers so it slowly points the front of the car towards where you are looking 🙂👍
If you place both left and right wheels on one aiming servo in the middle for front and rear it stays balanced and looks much better at least in my own testing :) hope this helps!!
With this, I feel like scrapman could revisit the snowboard idea he tried a long time ago
This vehicle deserved to be given to someone and see their reaction trying to figure out what's happening
Now let's just wait for the multiplayer combat with this, it will be insane
This is how they built the Moon Rover. The wheels rotate so you can drive sideways like it's forward
10:49 there are motorcycle wheels. These are narrow and have better traction on dirt than racing wheels and at the same time have better traction on tarmac than off-road wheels. These are my go to wheels on most multi purpose small vehicles. On bigger ones I use truck wheels
Slightly turn right look left they will never catch you😂😂😂
6:26 made me laugh like a madman
It's been said, but definitely double up the wheels with one set on the outside of the servos and one set on the inside. Also, I'd contribute the spinning to the aerodynamics trying to straighten out the car to get least wind resistance.
this tech will be perfect for my space tank
assuming i can actually get the update
it could be because my storage is almost full but it feels like it takes about a month between videos of the update coming out and me actually getting the update
Next you should make a vehicle that goes all directions where you go exactly the direction that you're aiming for even if it's a bit upwards
The reason why car eventually turn into what you call preferred angle is due to aerodynamics. You see when you are going sideways there is different more air drag being applied to the back potion of the car since it is less aerodynamic than the front portion of your car. So why does the car orients to this position only when it reaches certain speed? That is because at that point the force caused by the air drag exceeds the stabilisation force of your gyro.
I think this would be hilarious with either combat driving or a lower powered motor combo for sumo
VIDEO IDEA, do a spleef arena were the vehicles are control like this, the spuds could be rotated with the vehicle using gyros 14:23 while going forward
Prehapskis you could revisit your snowboarder with the aiming servo
This would be wild to see a ghost of in one of the races.
I feel like the 45 degree stable angle is also an aerodynamics thing
So you essentially wanted to have a car that has the same controls as any vehicle in Halo, but make it wacky
Imagine you're in a drift race. then after the first tern your competition just doesn't stop drifting. the whole race he never stops.
You said it. Next project = Battlefield stunts! :D
Aerodynamics are trying to pull the car back to be aerodynamic
13:13 talking about the battlefield stunt, try to recreate it in scrapmechanic as that allows weapons on the character unlike trailmaker charcters
I want to see you use this in a multi-player build. Not everyone does it though, just you using it as a surprise in like a king of the hill or something.
this just looks like FR legends
this could be fun for a multiplayer video, a vs battle or armed racing in vehicles driving like this.
