  • Manfromleng takes (another) look at Kate Winthrop, the Seeker investigator who will appear in The Feast of Hemlock Vale Investigator expansion, as well as several new Seeker cards, which were spoiled last week. My preview of Hank Samson and the Survivor cards will come Friday. CC licenced music from the album Lovecraft Memories by Zreen Toyz. Contact manfromleng@gmail.com.

Dream-Enhancing Serum is science and takes up the arcane slot.

Thanks for the reminder! Perhaps we will see a Kate 'big hand' deck that combines the serum with lab assistant, which also has the science trait.

Chemistry Set should be in a backpack and take a body slot. The slot its in is just weird 🧐

I didn't realise before watching your video that she can trigger her ability multiple times during a single test. I think she'll be really strong at oversucceeding with cards like Archaic Glyphs and Research Notes.
I do think clue dropping is going to be a strong strategy for her since it should allow her to recycle her skill boosts without having to draw an enemy or her Elder Sign. Research Notes is also insurance against her weakness.

I’m betting that there will be a neutral permanent that allows you to put tokens on it to lower your succeed by value or spend a token to raise your succeed by value.

I see Chemistry Set which helps if u are lucky and would not play for any effect on purpose. I think it might feel nice to check your result after drawing a taken and get something extra. +4 might happen with bless tokens, but the randomness is far to great to play for a certain outcome in my opinion.
The same goes for Dr Charles West.

Based on what we know about the new cards now, that's a fair assessment. As I mentioned in the video, if you play Chemistry Set and Dr. Charles West III together, you're always going to get something for succeeding by 0 to 4. You can try to manipulate the result a little depending on your skill total before the pull but you're probably better off just playing your normal game and enjoying the extra perk for investigating with Chemistry set once per turn.

Do we know/think she can drop clues from her assets? Or only spend?

Based on what I've seen from the designer's posts on various Discords, Kate controls the clues on her assets, so she is able to spend/drop them as necessary. I wish the designers had announced something officially when they spoiled Kate, but Discord posts are the best we've got at the moment. I assume that we'll see an FAQ update before the expansion drops, but that could be months away.

The designer's clarification also impacts the first scenario in the Dreameaters (Dream side). Investigators lose their clues when they advance the Act deck the first couple times. I assume that means Kate loses any clues she moved to assets, too. Again we'll just have to wait for the FAQ to confirm it.

This will definitely needs clarifications. Because there's many situations that are unclear.
Let's say you have to discard an asset you control: where the clue(s) goes back? On your location, on your investigator card or in the token pool?
Another example: if a card ask you to discard with clue(s) you control: do you consider the clue(s) in your cards other than your investigator card or not? Depending on the rules clarification, this mean Kate could "protect" her clues in many scenarios.
Similar issue when you are asked to pay something with clues: can you pay with clues from your assets or only from your Investigator card?
Similar issue when you're asked: "If you have X clue(s), then...". Does the clues on assets counts or not?
Last, but not least, all these questions would greatly impact the "value" of cards that move clue back/out of the investigator card. Kate could "protect" clue(s) from being discarded by encounter cards, token/scenario effects.
My head is exploding with questions! Can't wait for the FAQ.

So... According to MFL, most of the new cards are bad? Shocker.
